CC Sabathia chooses not to opt out! The big guy has signed an extension. My analysis: Yay!

Scott Boras alleges that Scott Boras was just joking about Brian Cashman not returning his calls regarding renegotiating the last two years of Robinson Cano’s contract. Brian Cashman did not return calls regarding not returning calls. Bob Hohler, Dan Shaughnessy, and Peter Abraham are “doing something special” for Globe subscribers: discussing the collapse of the Red Sox tonight at the Cask ‘n Flagon and via online chat. What helps me get over how not depressed I am that I never reached a station in life where I get to ignore Scott Boras’ calls and that I never had a subscription to the Globe that I could cancel right now is that there is still baseball being played today.
The Rangers look to clinch their first Series with Colby Lewis on the mound, the only Ranger to have claimed a “W” in last year’s Fall Classic. Jaime Garcia pitches for the Cardinals for game six in St. Louis. Comment away.

Woke up this morning and found that Theo left a 1,600 word Dear John on the fridge.
Hey guys I’m leaving and just so you know I know September was all my fault and everyone else’s fault too except yours because you are the best fans ever but you should stop being so hard on me and the guys and me and 12-year-old me loves the Red Sox and everyone should remember that the Sox before September and right now and FutureSox are still totally awesome and I’m sorry I left the house a mess but it really isn’t and Ben is a super dude and he and some other guy will be great roommates and maybe they will even get along with Larry and we’re sorry for whatever we did or didn’t do that pissed you off and I won’t be here but we have a plan and I promise it won’t happen again unless it does and I’ll see you in June and maybe in October so anyway I love you bye bye now.
He kept his key.

Twenty-three combined runs and eleven pitchers after start time, the plucky Cardinals barely held on to stave off the tenacious Rangers in Arlington, taking a two games to one lead in The Series, despite a lackluster performance by Albert Pujols, who was held hitless one of his six at bats, and failed to homer in any of them except the three times he narrowly avoided popping out by hitting it over the fence. Edwin Jackson and Derek Holland man the bump (for an inning or two anyway) tonight. Comment away.

ESPN is reporting that the compensation talks for Theo Epstein are basically done, and that Epstein will become the President of the Cubs. In tandem with that Jed Hoyer will leave San Diego after just two years (and a trade of their fan favorite to his new boss!) to become the GM in Chicago. Josh Byrnes, another former Epstein lieutenant will ascend to the GM role out west in place of Hoyer. Story here. We are curious to know the compensation, it will probably be nothing like what has been reported over the last two weeks.

Earlier today, Buster Olney tweeted:
Leyland re: transparency of decisions, like announcing no Verlander Game 7. “I just don’t think there are a lot of secrets. Maybe I am dumb.”
Sounds pretty smart to me.
Leyland’s Tigers face the Rangers in Arlington, with Max Scherzer hoping to keep Detroit alive for a game seven, while Derek Holland pitches for Texas. Comment away.

Apple's servers are slammed with everybody trying their new toys, me included. I would watch baseball, but I don't have TBS, so no senior circuit action for me tonight unless I head over to a friends house. "Siri, who's my best friend?"
"Sorry, you have no social network either. And you have halotosis. Please don't hold me so close to your reeking maw."
Comment away on your Friday night action, or lack thereof. Come back, Siri. I promise things will be different this time. I will brush and maybe even floss!
