Chris Archer was brilliant against the Yankees the last they saw of him, but he’s been faltering as of late and the Yankees are sending Hiroki “Alligator Cyborg” Kuroda to the bump in St. Pete tonight as the Yankees look to gain ground on their divisional rival, who sit six ahead in the loss column. Comment away.

A day after the Yanks swept a doubleheader and the Rays won to go ahead by percentage points in the division, the Sox try to recover against Barry Zito (a soft-tossing lefty…what could possibly go wrong?!). Felix Doubront will try to recover from getting shellacked by the Yanks. I will hopefully get this awful taste out of my mouth.

10:15 ET/7:15 PT. Good times, great oldies as Peavy and Vogelsong take the hill. Vogelsong is making his 3rd start back from a long DL stint and got roughed up a touch (by the Nationals) last time out. On paper, these Giants are just what the doctor ordered for the previously-flailing Sox.
5 games for plunking A-Rod. He deserves something (and it probably would have been legitimately better for the Sox if he’d been tossed at the time)…I’m having trouble being upset about the worst starter on the team missing a turn in the rotation. Lolboohoo.
Nova gave up four in the second, but Esmil Rogers finally allowed Gardner to work a dribbling single up the middle with one away in the bottom of the third in (mostly empty) Yankee Stadium, followed by Ichiro getting his 3,998th hit as a baseball player, should one count those gathered with the Blue Wave along with the time as a Mariner and a Yank. Then Robi goes yard for his 200th bomb, making the game 4-3 with Sori coming to the plate. Yo-Ho me mateys and let’s go.

It’s Sabathia vs. Dempster on Sunday Night Baseball (the third-to-last Sunday ESPN game for the Sox, thank goodness…the penultimate will be next week against the Dodgers…the last one is 9/15 against, you guessed it, the Yankees). This exact same matchup occurred four weeks ago, on Sunday Night Baseball, in a see-saw game that ended with a Napoli walk-off shot to center in extras. The same final outcome without all the damn stress would be much appreciated. Comment away.

The Red Sox, losers of 6 of their last 8, are floundering when they should be flying…and today they have to face Kuroda. F*ck.
But Lackey is a pretty good pitcher this season too. I’ll be at a wedding, but hopefully the Sox will be ringing some bells too. Comment away.

I am absolutely, utterly confused by this latest ARod flustercuck but at least I am grateful his inner circle got the lineups to me early. Just play some fricking baseball, because the rationalizing going on in both the media and the players about what is fair and right about PED use and the exposure of a few of their many, many users is a bigger joke than ever.
Andy Pettitte and Felix Doubront at Fenway. Let’s hope for a great game. Lineups follow, comment away.
”I’m proud of them,” Selig said about the replay committee. ”It’s worked out remarkably well. It’s historic. There’s no question about it.”
It was a beautiful wedding toast, and everyone got misty-eyed. Then he fell asleep during the father-daughter dance. Oh wait, actually there was a question about it: why did it take so long to implement? But anyway, we can look forward to expanded replay.
Alfonso Soriano went 4-5, adding another RBI bringing his series total to 14, but Anaheim rang up 8 runs on Hughes, Kelley, Logan, and Chamberlain to prevent the sweep. I’m not sure what is in the water but whatever is happening, I’m glad to see it. The Bombers got some much-needed bluster back. We’ll see what’s in store later today as Pettitte and Doubront square off at Fenway.

Watching the Jays degrade into the relative disaster they have become is soooooooooo funny in light of all the pre-season predictions of success for the Jays and doom for the Sox. Winning this series against the Blue Birds would be the cherry on this delicious cake. Mmmm, schadenfreude icing.
Former White Sox Peavy and Buehrle do the hurling today. Comment away.
