Baseball-reference.com has a posting on the front page, refreshing every thirty seconds. that will show who hit it when the 250,000th dinger in ML history is recorded later today, if you are into that sort of trivia.

Is that the 250,000th***?
Pretty funny (at least to me) comment on BTF said something about how ARod would hit 249999 and 25001, showing once again how unclutch he is.
looks like Jason Bay has 249,998
ooops 249,997
Are we treating this as the gamer tonight?
Sure, why not? I had plans for a big Series Preview, but work got in the way (stupid job)…
God bless Coco! And Kotsay!
Wait oops, Kotsay thrown out at 2nd. Oh well, nice hit anyways.
Lester suddenly having control issues.
Ugh. Sheff? Ugh.
Better him than Giambi.
He made doubly sure..
#250,000: Gary Sheffield (DET) off Gio Gonzalez (OAK).
#249,999: Gary Sheffield (DET) off Gio Gonzalez (OAK), Sept. 8.
#249,998: Magglio Ordonez (DET) off Gio Gonzalez (OAK) , Sept. 8.
Sheesh. Detroit hammers, and they are in the third inning.
Would love for that to get rained out so it doesn’t count. That would be funny.
Not that it matters, this is minutia trivia of the highest order.
Man, the Red Sox pounced early, but they have made some baserunning blunders since and let Jackson off the ropes. Well…to the 7th!
Jackson has really ssettled down since the first, and the RS have had two runners thrown out on the bases, plus a CS.
7 2/3 IP for Lester, leaves runners at 2nd and 3rd for Papelbon.
Lester is amazing. Johan who?
Rocco’s sombrero? It is GOLDEN!
Ath, you and I are on in fantasy playoffs this week! I am somewhat wishing I did not trade you Lidge right now. Hopefully the Phillies will suck and/or Baker will toss a gem.
God bless Coco! His batting average is now .291! Holy crap!
Phew. Still scoreless are them Rays, and Coco is ON FIRE!
Heh hopefully Lincecum tosses a gem tonight and gets a W for once. If he doesn’t win the NL Cy Young it’s a travesty. Brandon Webb be damned!
Booooooo, Coco. Caught stealing.
Ath: “God bless Coco! His batting average is now .291! Holy crap!”
Though I’d like to see him with a bit more power, it is nice to have him hitting well and having Jacoby going into the post season.
The Kotsay experiment leading off seems to be paying off well, at least the last few games.
An awful night on the bases can be rendered moot if Papelbon gets 3 outs before giving up 3 runs.
Kotsay has a line of .291/.346/.438 leading off in his career, in 310 games. Only better line is when he hits 7th, go figure.
Spent most of his career hitting 2nd. Not gonna happen when you’ve got Laser Show! Though I’m wondering why they didn’t keep Pedro hitting 4th and plug in Youk 2nd in the batting order.
Anybody watching? Pitch 3 to Aybar on game day showed high and tight.
2 outs, then a base hit.
PAPS!!! BALLGAME!
Winner, winner, half game back!
Niiiiiiiice. Almost getting confident enough about the division to feel bad for the Rays…but they’ll be happy with the wild card, I think.
If the Yankees beat the Angels, Sox will be 1 GB for best record in MLB. If the Angels beat the Yankees…it will just be fun!
Got a little worried there, one of the few times I stepped into a gamer, late in the game no less, and Paps give’s up a 2 out hit to Hinske, though I was going to get blamed for the opposite of Ath going out in the rain. He is about 60 miles down I-64 (I’m in Williamsburg, VA, he’s in Virginia Beach, VA)
OK, so is this what Yank fans have felt like all those years when they were knocking on the door in Sept??? If the Sox come back and win the division, will that make the Ray’s the new Sox?
I would like to thank Jason Bay for hitting his home run in the first to make it a 3-run lead and thus taking away much of the stress this game might have had.
Any hits the 249,997th of all time!!!!
Devine, you sound like you are accepting an award on behalf of SF everywhere!
I’d also like to thank John Lester for only scattering 6 hits while striking out 9 to get hit 14th win!
Am I rooting for the Yankees AGAIN? I’m afraid I am… I never thought the Sox would be within striking distance of the Angels.
