5.5 and Shrinking Fast: Sox-Angels Gamer V

Well the Yankees continue to do their thing, beating the teams they are supposed to.  The Sox need to get their asses in gear and do something of quality: beat the Angels on the road.  Last night’s affair saw Terry Francona bring in Julian Tavarez in an important spot, effectively telling Theo Epstein that he, in fact, runs the team, deadline maneuvering be damned.  Tim Wakefield heads to the hill looking to get the Sox squared up in the series following last night’s loss.  Comment here.

  • If there is a Sox game on, I am most likely lurking in the Sox thread. I like the commentary and insight here. But lurking is not fun when no one is posting!

  • Pedroia and Youk start off the first inning with singles, but only one run ends up scoring. 1-0 after the 2nd, both pitchers are using a lot of pitches. Should be an interesting game–ESPECIALLY with Delcarmen, Oki, Gagne and Papelbon all well rested. Come on Wake, make that ball dance.

  • Wily Mo misplays a ball that should have been an easy out. Bleh.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 10:41 pm
  • The Sox are the only team in baseball over .600. They’re 6 and 4 in their last 10 games, and I think they were better in the 10 before that.
Their pitching slipped a bit the last 30 days, but now Schilling is back and they have Gagne. Their runs scored last 30 days are second in the league. What’s incredible that they Yankees have almost 50% more runs over the same period, but I don’t see why Sox fans are so pessimistic about Red Sox play. You always go a little up and down over 162 games, but the Sox seem to just keep on winning.

  • sox go 1-2-3 in the third

    z118 August 7, 2007, 10:52 pm
  • Coco robbed of a HR. Game still tied at 1-1.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:04 pm
  • Wily Mo leads off the 5th with a double. Come on Dougie, help us out.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:17 pm
  • belli crushes a two run hommer to left. 3-2 sox

    sf rod August 7, 2007, 11:18 pm
  • DOUGIE WITH A 2-RUN SHOT! YEAH!

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:18 pm
  • Holy crap, Dougie is batting .308 with runners in scoring position? I think I just orgasmed.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:19 pm
  • Youk hits a double and scores Pedroia. 4-2 Sox.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:24 pm
  • dustin should have been out at home on a good throw. dale was waving him around third when garret anderson was getting ready to hit the relay guy.

    sf rod August 7, 2007, 11:32 pm
  • cripes. Every time I start breathing again these buggers come back at us.

    rootbeerfloat August 7, 2007, 11:34 pm
  • The Sox are essentially winning two out of every three games, a .667 pace I don’t think any of us should have a problem with. This team has played much better since the middle of July. Last night’s loss was frustrating, but not nearly as much as it would have been a month ago.

    Paul SF August 7, 2007, 11:34 pm
  • this doesn’t seem like a team that is winning two out of three….

    rootbeerfloat August 7, 2007, 11:41 pm
  • No, not with all of those wasted opportunities and Wake giving it up like a $2 hooker.

    DW-sf August 7, 2007, 11:45 pm
  • Right on cue, Wakefield falls apart. 5-4 Angels.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:46 pm
  • Delcarmen needs a popout or strikeout. Come on Manny.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:47 pm
  • I think the worst thing about West Coast games (aside from staying up late only to watch them lose) is the fact that the Yanks have already played and won, which puts even more pressure on us.
It puts pressure on me, at least.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:48 pm
  • Angel is safe at home, 6-4 Sox. Another 2-run lead blown.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:50 pm
  • Suicide squeeze scores another run, and the Angels didn’t even have to sacrifice anything. Delcarmen is mentally blown.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:51 pm
  • Bonds just hit 756. I’m in tears.

    Atheose August 7, 2007, 11:52 pm
  • 7-4 Good Night, game over, this team is done. 5 games ahead, maybe the Yanks will lose when they finally meet an above .500 team. Only way this team is holding on the lead.

    Kris SF August 7, 2007, 11:53 pm
  • Delcarmen looks awful. That is alot of damage to allow in about 10 pitches.

    Jack SF August 7, 2007, 11:54 pm
  • Paul SF-
The Redsox are NOT “essentially” winning 2 out of 3 games. If they were, they would have a 75-37 record, which is a mile away from their actual record of 68-44. Using your logic, the Yankees are essentially in first place since they are fewer than 7 games back.

    Michael T August 7, 2007, 11:57 pm
  • I was afraid that he wasn’t going to make it at this level. He looked so good initially this season. It’s like he has no confidence in his stuff right now. I wonder if there is a power right arm at Pawtucket whom we can promote to the “best ‘pen in the majors.”

    DW-sf August 7, 2007, 11:58 pm
  • I just watched the celebration, Bonds forgot to Thank Conde and Steriods. Excuse me I forgot, Flax seed oil and grit, what a ceater.

    Kris SF August 7, 2007, 11:58 pm
  • Lowell starts the inning with a single, $5 says he doesn’t score

    Kris SF August 8, 2007, 12:02 am
  • Why the fuck wasn’t Lowell running as hard as he could? If he hadn’t pussy-footed around at the plate he would have been safe. Goddamnit.

    Atheose August 8, 2007, 12:03 am
  • Well he WAS running hard, but he had a shitty slide. Sigh.

    Atheose August 8, 2007, 12:04 am
  • Someone owes me $5, Lowell thrown out at home on a double by crisp

    Kris SF August 8, 2007, 12:04 am
  • And Demarlo Hale gets in on the act, sending Lowell on Crisp’s double with nobody out in a 3-run ballgame and getting him gunned down easily at the plate. This is f*cking incredible.
And I don’t know why people are crapping on Delcarmen for what he’s done so far tonight…he gave up a fielder’s choice which I didn’t see, a groundball for an out, a bunt-single, and a popfly that fell into shallow LF. Then he struck somebody out. He’s been fine.

    Josh SF (D1) August 8, 2007, 12:04 am
  • Fearing he’d break his hip, Lowell slides like an old man

    Kris SF August 8, 2007, 12:05 am
  • That’s the game right there, by the way; instead of 2nd and third, nobody out, the inning’s essentially finished and I guarantee Crisp isn’t going to score. Just unbelievable…

    Josh SF (D1) August 8, 2007, 12:05 am
  • Inning Over, game over

    Kris SF August 8, 2007, 12:09 am
  • TJ August 8, 2007, 12:09 am
  • I’m done. Never been this pissed off about a non-playoff game before…this is just f*cking remarkable…Lugo doesn’t make an error and the game is likely tied, Demarlo Hale doesn’t channel Wendell Kim again and who knows what the situation is.

    Josh SF (D1) August 8, 2007, 12:11 am
  • Sweet jesus, our porn star is pitching again. Guess Tito has given up on this game too.

    Atheose August 8, 2007, 12:11 am
  • Ugh. Thank god, no more Bonds Watch?
Also, Hank Aaron – class act all the way. Barry could learn a lot from him.

  • Remember when we had the best bullpen in baseball five days ago? Ahh, those were the days.

    Atheose August 8, 2007, 12:14 am
  • Wow, Coco makes a rare fielding error.
It feels like ages since I’ve seen Gagne, Oki or Papelbon.

    Atheose August 8, 2007, 12:16 am
  • Wow. Let’s just put the ball on a tee and let them hit it, hoping that they hit it to someone.

    DW-sf August 8, 2007, 12:16 am
  • ok taking bets on how soon before Tavarez gets DFA and either Lopez is recalled or Buchholz gets called up.

    TJ August 8, 2007, 12:17 am
  • Can someone please explain why Julian Tavarez is still on our roster (and Lopez is not)?
If this were to become the last game the Porn Orc ever pitches for Boston, then at least something good could be said to have come of it.

    Hudson August 8, 2007, 12:19 am
  • It’s too bad there aren’t any other arms in the pen besides Declarman and Tavarez. Oh wait…

    Jack SF August 8, 2007, 12:20 am
  • TJ — If it were a rational decision, Tavarez would be gone long ago, or at least I’d take your bet. The fact that he is still here makes me loathe to put any money on it.
The only explanation is that he has pictures of Theo and Tito naked with an under-aged goat.

  • And so the real fun begins….
    Ha!

    Woosta YF August 8, 2007, 1:03 am
  • Hey fellow YFs, let’s not troll too hard here. They’re up five, and they’re quite good. Keep your heart full of positive vibes for our team, not negative vibes for theirs. It probably doesn’t matter in any cosmic sense, but at least we can keep up the BS about us being classy if we do that. :-)

    tom yf August 8, 2007, 1:10 am
  • Tom –
    Ha!
    Hahahahahaha!
    Ha!

    Woosta YF August 8, 2007, 1:11 am
  • 5 and counting…. Gonna be an interesting series at the end of the month. Will the Sox do their usual August fold – only time will tell…

    bronxborn August 8, 2007, 1:19 am
  • tom, you don’t have to worry about this yf getting too cocky about the yanks lastest surge…i still think it’s just a tease…it’s unlikely that they can keep up the pace that is needed, or that the sox will not start to pick it up themselves…nope, my focus is still the wild card…that’s another matter entirely…
