A Little Late, A Little Early: Sox-Jays Gamer XVII

If the Red Sox beat the Jays today, they’ll be in position to clinch a playoff spot — but of course we don’t actually want them to do that just yet because that would mean the Rays beat the Twins. If that’s not confusing enough, don’t worry. It probably won’t happen; Roy Halladay is on the mound, and the Sox are already down 1-0 in what could be another Lester-Halladay pitchers’ duel.

  • Oh man, am I glad the Sox won yesterday. Takes all the pressure off this disaster.
Since I figure the Sox pretty much forfeited their hopes for the division, my only real hope for the weekend is to see the Yankees officially eliminated.

  • Well, this just got a lot more interesting. Sox now down just 5-3 on Bay’s HR.

  • Now Bay walks to load the bases for Lowrie. Even if nothing comes of it, they’ve done a pretty job battling Halladay.

  • And I should clarify that, by “they,” I mean to exclude Tek and Cora.

  • Lowrie strikes out on 6 pitches. Halladay at 96 pitches through 5 IP. At least he won’t get the complete game, though I’m sure Toronto will put him out there at least another inning (it’s just Cora/Tek/Ellsbury coming up).

  • Anyone who thought that Halladay/Lester would be so much higher scoring than Burres/Aceves is a real seer. Still scoreless in the Bronx in the 7th.
