Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing: Sox-Yanks Gamer I

Even after all these years, watching it all play out dozens of times over, hundreds of times over, there’s still nothing quite like Yankees vs. Red Sox.

Buchholz (who was unwatchably awful last time out against the Brewers) and Pineda (who was berry, berry good against Toronto) will kick off the first of many meetings between these titanic baseball forces (who are both 4-5 right now, but who’s counting?). The lineups of both teams might be a bit old and rickety, but the fans at Yankee Stadium are sure to make everyone feel spry for a few hours. Happy rivalry to us all!

  • I’m excited for this game, but I will be at a little league game towards the end of it and don’t know if I want to go in coaching angry, so I may just have to put this one on tape delay.

  • It’s weird being nervous about the Yankee bullpen.

  • Pineda using pine tar on his pitching hand?

    I'm Bill McNeal April 10, 2014, 9:43 pm
  • …probably whatever Lester is using?

  • On the bench?

  • Lester has been accused of the same thing that SF’s were talking about tonight with Pineda…so if Pineda is using something, he probably gets it from Lester.

    :)

  • Good game.

    Let’s do it again tomorrow.

    Pineda is a monster.

    krueg April 10, 2014, 10:03 pm
  • …or Clay Buck. He has stock in Pine Tar Industries.

    krueg April 10, 2014, 10:09 pm
  • He said it was dirt. I believe him.

  • Hey IBM!

  • Sounds like it’s the same issue as Buchholz last season. Red Sox players unconcerned. Let MLB figure it out. Beware, though. After the big kerfuffle over his foreign substance, he went on the DL.

  • It was pine tar. They all do it. (even Sox aces in the playoffs) Nothing to see here. Move along.

    krueg April 11, 2014, 9:16 am
  • I don’t like it. It’s cheating. MLB has a rule. Enforce it or drop it. It cheapens the game if it’s not enforced.
To me, the story is not Pineda or Buchholz, it’s why MLB isn’t enforcing the rule.
    (Steps down of soapbox.)

  • I for one would not want to see dudes throwing heat with a slippery hand man…would you want to stand in there? It just gives them a better grip. It’s tacky, not slippery. Totally different.

Nothing to see here, move along.

  • PS CC vs Lester tonight. Woah.

    krueg April 11, 2014, 1:43 pm
  • If that’s really the explanation, fine. I can buy that. But MLB should address it. Not pretend it’s non existent. Rule says no foreign substance, right?

    I'm Bill McNeal April 11, 2014, 2:41 pm
  • Damn. This is when I really want to have an in-person discussion.

    I'm Bill McNeal April 11, 2014, 2:44 pm
  • I feel you IBM. You are 100% correct. The rules do state that but I think the reason it’s not addressed is because it’s not a big deal.
