And Just Like That, It’s Over: Rox-Sox Gamer II

Oswalt faces Lackey in the…finale? Seems weird to call it that after one whole other game came before it. I was surprised to learn Oswalt is merely a year older than Lackey…though seemingly much less effective in the recent past.

The 4:05 ET/1:05 PT start makes a great work distraction (if weather allows). Comment away!

  • Rox draw first blood with a run off Lackey in the first.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 4:17 pm
  • Sox get it back within 2 batters.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 4:25 pm
  • Ortiz puts Sox up 2-1 with a run-scoring double, 1 out Bot 1st.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 4:26 pm
  • 3-1 on Nava’s single, and then Salty K’s to end the inning.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 4:35 pm
  • Can we have the Rockies in the World Series again, please?

  • Bit of a squander here, but 5-1 after 3.

Commercial says John Lester knows what it means to be No 1. Does he?

pale blue eyes June 26, 2013, 5:07 pm
  • Lester could stand to look at one pitcher on the DL and one pitcher throwing strikes today.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 5:11 pm
  • 60 pitches, 48 strikes!

pale blue eyes June 26, 2013, 5:18 pm
  • Hopefully the Sox scoring in every even-numbered inning pattern continues next time around. Mean time, Lackey just needs to keep them down.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 5:27 pm
  • Derp, *odd-numbered inning.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 5:28 pm
  • Lackey hit hard all over the field, but only gives up the run on the leadoff solo blast in the end. Whew. 5-2, Sox should be up a little more than this.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 5:55 pm
  • Drew triples with 1 out…can Iggy get him in?

    Devine June 26, 2013, 6:01 pm
  • Nein. Fielder’s choice gets Drew at home.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 6:02 pm
  • It’s automatic this year that they run on contact in that situation, and it’s automatic that they get thrown out at home.

  • Impressive game from Lackey. Should be good for another inning with 98 pitches after 7.

pale blue eyes June 26, 2013, 6:10 pm
  • Looks like he’s done (shaking hands and all that). Shame, I would have left him out there till someone got on, but I suppose it isn’t an awful decision or anything. Non-Bailey portion of the pen should be able to get 6 outs without giving up 3. SHOULD.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 6:15 pm
  • Speaking of which, Bailey coming out with a lead for the..7th?…in Detroit. That was such boneheaded managing. Eye-stab worthy.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 6:17 pm
  • Nava just got TOTALLY FREAKIN’ HOSED on a 3-2 pitch a good six inches off the corner.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 6:21 pm
  • Hopefully Tazawa gets three quick outs and the deluge is on. Hell, I don’t care if he gives up two runs if it rains cats and dogs before the third can cross the plate.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 6:23 pm
  • Tazawa in the 8th. Immediately gives up another homer to Cuddyer. This is getting uncomfortable.

pale blue eyes June 26, 2013, 6:24 pm
  • Cuddyer homers. 5-3. Regretting the hook, Farrell?

    Devine June 26, 2013, 6:24 pm
  • Well, ultimately this worked out better than that Bailey nonsense in Detroit.

    Still, three more outs needed.

pale blue eyes June 26, 2013, 6:27 pm
  • The outs come fast after that, though. 5-3 after 7.5.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 6:27 pm
  • Uehara will come in with a 2-run lead.

    Devine June 26, 2013, 6:36 pm
  • I’m not a fan of interleague play. But I prefer the format we’re having now to the old one. I liked the home-and-home series against the Phillies and the occasional two-game series is much less disruptive than several three-game series strung together. Remember the nine-game road trip we had a couple of years ago with A-Gon playing in right field in order to get Big Papi into a couple of games.

Meanwhile Koji has his first strike-out. And now two outs.

pale blue eyes June 26, 2013, 6:41 pm
  • I notice a three-game series against the Padres coming up.

pale blue eyes June 26, 2013, 6:42 pm
  • Now that’s how you close out a game. Good win for Lackey and the Sox.

pale blue eyes June 26, 2013, 6:43 pm
  • So you’re telling me closers can get 3 straight outs? This is a revelation. Sweet victory. Should have won by more, but a W’s a W.
