And So a Dream Lives or Dies: Reds-Bucs NL Wild Card Gamer

The Pirates earned the right to play this game in Pittsburgh by winning a season-closing series against the Reds in Cincinnati (they swept, in fact). But they still need to win one more against them to have a shot at the title.

Cueto faces Liriano, and millions of Pirates fans continue to hold a collective breath that they’ve been holding for over 2 decades. What does it sound like when a few million people exhale and begin screaming with joy? Red Sox fans know. Hopefully Pirates fans will get a taste too. Comment away.

  • This has been pretty awesome so far…can only imagine the Pirates’ fans jittery weepiness right now.

  • hard not to root for the pirates…not having a horse in the race is a little weird, but i think i may enjoy these playoffs even more, if that makes sense…i can relax, and watch 2 of my best friends [one a braves fan, and the other a tigers fan] freak out…they wanna know which of those teams i’m rooting for…since i can be a front runner this time around, i’m going pirates, indians, rays, and then i’ll figure it out after that…hahaha

off topic, and i apologize for messing up this thread and/or the mood in general, but i just read an update on the arod saga…he apparently is now claiming that he was tricked by bosch…that he didn’t know the “substances” he received were illegal…you would think a guy with $30m a year at stake would perform [or have someone do it for him] some due diligence on what he was injesting…even if he’s not smart enough to vet that himself, he could have gone through proper channels, like mlb, the mlbpa, maybe the yankees who should have a medical/training staff who must be well versed on the topic…i can’t tell if this a**hole is more ignorant or arrogant…i’m sure bud won’t be consulting with me any time soon, but i have an alternative punishment for him to offer arod…in lieu of the 211 game suspension…how about 211 slaps?…they could auction them off for charity…the 211 highest bids get to administer the slaps…thanks for letting me blow off steam guys

  • dc, totally understand RE: no horse = more “fun” playoffs. I have too much experience with that recently not to understand.

So you’re rooting for teams that haven’t had recent success, eh? If the Sox go down (please not to the Rays, I can take losing to the Tigers/A’s, but PLEASE not the Rays, I want to pay those fuckers back for 2008), I’ll be rooting for Pittsburgh for sure, then maybe the Tigers, then the Braves (friend’s mom is a fan). I reserve the right to change my mind at any time, of course.

  • mostly i’m just trying to enjoy the playoffs even though my team isn’t in it…not sure if i can bring myself to root for the sox at any point devine, but i’m hoping you understand…my gut tells me we’re going to see a dodgers-sox series, but for my other friends’ sakes a tigers-braves series would be fun too…they will be absolutely nutty…hahaha
