And Don’t Call Him Steffi!

So, could the best pickup of July in the AL East be…Tony Graffanino?!  Hitting well into the .300s as a Sox, he’s a totally competent fielder, and tonight he’s just gone deep with two on to put the Sox up 8-5.  Three hits on the night and the game is barely half over.  Now if only everyone else on the Sox could field, they’d be all set.  Maybe they need to order a whole set of these (via Gizmodo).

  • Yeah, but even without all this production to date for Graffanino, he does more for the team than anyone by keeping Mark Bellhorn out of the lineup!
Hopefully, I never see Bellhorn in Fenway Park again. Lets go TONY!

  • I’d say that award would have to go to Shawn Chacon, who’s had two terrific starts for the Bombers and goes again tomorrow. With the recent news on RJ and Pavano, that acquisition is looking ever more valuable. Thumbs up to Cash.

  • Yeah, Shawn just pitched 7 innings of 3 hit, 1 run ball for us.
Then Embree came in after Felix led off the inning with a single and hit the first batter. But he got out of the inning and has now had four scoreless innings for us. Why’d you guys let him go?

  • Jetes –
Need to see any more? A beautiful homer, if ever I’ve seen one.

  • Meanwhile, the Sox blow a 5 run lead. This is fun. Or not. And Rent totally had control of that ball. If the ump can’t tell, well, we’re at home. Give our guy the call. Either way, I’m not a fan of Remlinger so far, I’ll tell you that.

  • Charge this game to Torre. Another example of sub-par managing. 1-0, 9th inning, there is no excuse to not bring in Mo. None. Zero. Nada.

  • Excellent work tonight, Agent Embree. Your undercover work continues to be top notch. Instructions for your next assignment as well as a bonus are waiting for you in the usual location. Over and out.

  • So much for luck. Yanks get Chicago’s 3-4-5 starters, and we get the mutants at the front of the rotation.
Oh, and Kenny Rogers comes back 7 games early, just in time to pitch against us. Boo him, Fenway.

  • Didja notice how Agent Embree managed to not only successfully complete his mission, but also to arrange that the blame for the result go on Torre – thus ensuring that our Agent maintains his usefulness for future missions?
That man has my respect, big time………

  • ‘Didja’ also notice how Agent Embree got the team out of a jam in the eight inning after which he should have been taken out of the game in favor of Mo? I guess not. Bottomline: Torre deserves the blame for leaving him in there with Mo warmed up and waiting in the bullpen.

  • I have been blogging a lot about Bellhorn. I want to like him…I really do. But Tony is just plugging away. He is like a second base version of Bill Mueller (who is also getting hot now) – playing the game the way it should be played. Sorry Mark.

  • And I was as surprised as anyone to see Al out there when we went back out, but I never argue with Mr. Torre.
