Has Alex finally earned his pinstripes? Three homers. Nine ribbies. Four innings. A solo shot gives him the dinger cycle. Go Alex, go. (But save some for the rest of the week!)

4-4! 10 ribbies. Let’s hope he gets another shot.

More garbage time production from the world’s biggest choke artist.

The sun shines on a dogs tail every now and then. All I’ve heard over the past month is “is there any way we can get rid of A-Rod for help in the pen”, and now he’s the second coming of Gherig? Just another subtle reminder of how ignorant the fly-by-night Yankee fans are.
a-rodslapsballs April 27, 2005 at 12:01 am
Are you YFs really going to say that A-Rod is now a good Yankee because he had one good game?
He’s been a cheater, a sucker, a loser… since he was over-recruited to your team! Now you embrace him because of good offense during one game!?!
SF-TMD April 27, 2005 at 12:14 am
Fuck all you Dead Sox fans come to the Bronx and talk that shit. SF-TMD your mothers a loser for having you. A-Rod is great. Sam eat shit.
El Duque April 27, 2005 at 8:09 am

See the Red Sox 2004 season.

What is it with Sox fans? Arod would’ve gone to the Sox, and they would all be licking his b*lls right now. However, since he ended up on the Yankees, he’s Satan’s Spawn. These Sox fans who say Arod is a choker, are they the same ones who call Jeter Captain Intagibles, and laugh when Yankee fans call him clutch? Why is it Sox fans revel more in disparaging the Yankees then they do in rooting for their own team? I don’t see Yankee fans making fun of the Sox players, and it’s not because there isn’t any ammunition. Could there be a more self-serving, narcissistic, ego-maniac than Curt Schilling? Yet we don’t feel the need to give him a derogatory nickname. Sox fans seek help.

“Why is it Sox fans revel more in disparaging the Yankees then they do in rooting for their own team”
This is a myth and it’s tiring to hear Yankees fans continue to repeat it. YF is guilty of this himself, and it’s really not true. We do love hating the Yankees, just like you loved chanting “1918″ incessantly. And you YFs also like pointing out how “lucky” we were last year. It’s part of the rivalry. I think it’s fair to say that fans of both teams love hating each other’s team and players, and we both love seeing the other nation suffer. It’s schadenfreude, and it’s satisfying. But I think it’s also fair to say that we both cherish winning more than the other team losing. I know I do – nothing can match the championship, not a single painful Yankees loss or choke can measure up to it. Can we move away from this meme, please?
SF April 27, 2005 at 9:51 am
Good point about Curt. If there is a more unlikable guy with a bigger mouth in this “rivalry” I don’t know who it could be. Yet Yankee fans pay little attention to him. I think you can chalk that up to New Yorkers being able to know a blow hard when they see one, as we have to deal with plenty of them on a daily basis, and basically taking him with a grain of salt. Why the Sox fans, and players, are so hung up on A-Rod I have no idea. Again I think it comes down to them realizing that no matter what transpired last year they are still a loser organization and they will always be trying to make themseleves fell just the least bit significant by trying to knock the Yankees down a notch. But does it really matter. Like I said in another comment, the Sox are a footnote. Right now I am more concerned about the Yanks getting themselves on the right side of .500 and taking the Orioles out of first. No need to focus on a second place team as a goal.
And Joe in NJ, there is NO DOUBT that Sox fans would by worshipping at cleats of A-Rod if they were able to pull the trigger and trade for him and I am sure Curt would be giving him hand jobs in the clubhouse after each game if that was the case.
Hammy April 27, 2005 at 9:57 am
“Yet Yankee fans pay little attention to him”.
Another myth. I can’t think of a player who is more in Yankees fans head than Schilling himself. Even YF himself would cop to numerous posts about the inanity that is Curt. Get your facts straight, Hammy. And cut out the moronic homophobic shit, too.
SF April 27, 2005 at 11:04 am
You are reaching here SF with your “homophobic” characterizations. Suggesting Curt may be a little light in the loafers if placed in close proximity to A-Rod is purely hypothetical. I didn’t say there was anything wrong with Bloody Sock Curt making a pass at him, just suggested I could see it happening due to the intense love fest that would have blossomed in Boston if the Sox front office was able to close the deal. Nothing homophobic about that. You should get yourself a dictionary and look up the word homophobic and apply it properly in the future. After all you are an Internet journalist, doesn’t integrity count for anything?
Anyway, yes I said that Yankee fans pay little attention to him, again you are reaching here (as usual SF), in that I was discussing how Sox fans and their players can’t seem to stop talking about or focusing on A-Rod. I then mentioned that despite Curt running his mouth whenever he gets the chance (and of course is out of reach of someone’s well placed fist) the Yankee players focus very little of their comments in the press toward him and Yankee fans don’t spend all day thinking of ways to disparage him should the opportunity present itself. Hell we spent more time on Pedro even though he couldn’t get past pitch number 99 without giving up a big hit. This is in stark contrast to how RSN’s hang-up on A-Rod.
The reason is clear, Curt is an a$$hole, we all know it, the media knows it, other players knows it, even Curt’s mother probably knew it when he was just a snot nosed little tyke. Why carry on about it?
That was the comment I made, that’s what I was talking about, and you knew that if you were able to read an comprehend the thread my statement was made in, but real nice attempt to deflect focus from the insecurities of both Sox players and fans who feel the need to spend so much time fantasizing about A-Rod.

Apparently Hammy and I have equally little to do at work today.
SF April 27, 2005 at 12:04 pm
Actually today I have some work to do. I am just making a conscious decision to avoid it. I mean do you see the weather outside? Who should have to work in this? I just want an afternoon nap. But this banter is filling in nicely.

More garbage time production from the world’s biggest choke artist.
His first home run was with the score tied 0-0 in the first, to give his team an early lead. Not garbage time.
His second home run was with the score 3-2, pulling his team’s lead back to 5 runs and came immediately after Pavano gave up 2 runs. Not garbage time.
Maybe you can call the grand slam “garbage time”. Maybe. But that’s a stretch.
All three came with two outs, as well.
Clay April 27, 2005 at 1:48 pm
Well, said Clay. And anyway, isn’t Buckner the Picasso of choke artists?
YF April 27, 2005 at 2:14 pm
Really, who cares when he had them, garbage time or not – he had a great game. So get over it, as YF loves to say, YFs and SFs alike.
SF April 27, 2005 at 2:19 pm
Also, A-Rod’s a generally good hitter in the post-season. He had a ton of huge hits in the ALDS and almost single-handedly won game 4.
He disappeared at the end of the ALCS, but so did everyone else.
Clay April 27, 2005 at 2:25 pm
If Buckners’s the Picasso of choke artists, then who is the Matthew Barney?

well, maybe Dennis Miller. But, still, the answer is probably no.

Hmmm … apparently, I hit a nerve. Score one for me.
Sam April 27, 2005 at 6:48 pm
No, you were just wrong.
Clay April 27, 2005 at 8:55 pm
In case you haven’t noticed, this is April, and ARod didn’t accomplish his little feat against the Red Sox.
Reggie hit ‘em in October. ARod hits ‘em in April. That about sums it up.
In fact, what DID ARod do when the Yankees played the Red Sox? Did he hit 3 home runs? Nooooo. Did he hit ANY homeruns? OK, well yeah, he did hit one. Solo job in an 8-5 Yankee win. And did he lose a game for the Yankees for f’ing up an easy DP ball? GODDAM RIGHT HE DID.
See ya in October.
Hey, I’ve been thinking. Y’know, if ARod doesn’t get his WS ring this year, there’s a very good chance that he’ll NEVER get one. Wouldn’t that be a shame?
