On this day of lost causes for our two teams, we take a moment to hail the Italian World Cup team. They dispensed with their German hosts this afternoon on a pair of wonderful goals (the first dramatically and technically brilliant, the second a Del Piero dagger, however perfunctory), and Sunday’s final against either Portugal or France should be a doozy. The best part? We’ll be on Italian soil for work; the brief interlude for some Sunday footie in the company of our Milanese hosts should be quite an experience. Like watching Game 4 of the 2004 Series at the Cask and Flagon, perhaps. Times 10.
We’ll be back for the All-Star break. Ciao.
