Back in the Saddle

We’re back after a long weekend, recharged and ready for the stretch drive. Following a solid series in Oakland, the Yankees also have returned, and with a lead in the WC race. Tonight they throw a very hot RJ against the DRays, while the Sox, now just 3 up, face John Lackey and the Angels. We’re optimistic, if concerned about the uncertain status of Mike Mussina.

Play Ball.

  • YF is back, and as clueless as ever. Over a week ago, he shouted “look out above” to anyone who would listen as his hot Yankees began their west coast swing with a shrinking loss column deficit and a reeling Sox team. Now, with an even bigger margin than on that day, he has the audacity to say the Sox are now just three up. We shudder to think what YF thought of the Bushies’ effort this past week.

  • Why, did Bush do something wrong?

  • I think the key part to his post is “with a lead in the WC race.” Sounds to me like he’s setting some realistic goals.

  • Sounds to me like a nervous SF is lashing out. That Sox pitching staff is still a disaster, and now the team’s hitters face the tough Angel hurlers for three before coming to NY. So perhaps they did not lose ground over the last week, but they didn’t make much, and that was on NY’s final West Coast swing. The Yanks can look down the road at lots of Tampa, Baltimore, and Toronto, not to mention six against the Sox. Three down is no bargain, but the Sox ain’t exactly in the catbird seat themselves.

  • Watched the vaunted Bosox yesterday, not all that impressed. Where’s the pitching? Listen, the Red Sox had their season. Be happy with it. This year’s squad just doesn’t have it.

  • Dissemble, evade, whatever suits you. You wrote the words, they are in the archives, so it’s easy enough for me to just re-state them for the record – I don’t need to send people on phony fishing expeditions for things never said a la you. Next up for YF: the Directorship of FEMA.

  • Ooookay.

  • Also, it’s hard to be nervous when your expectations aren’t very high. I am already on the record as saying I think the Sox are going to have a damn tough go at it the rest of the way, so I don’t harbor any cockiness nor do I have any corresponding anxiety about possible failure. Realism is the order of the day. Personally, I got over “nerves” last year. Nothing can really compare. Talk to me about nerves a few years into our next drought ;-)

  • So let me see, a team (Tampa Bay) with the combined payroll of one (1) star player (A-Rod) of their opponents (New York Yankees) can beat said $210-million-payroll team ten (10) times (so far) and lose to them just four (4) times.
What were Brian Cashman’s grades in math because so far it ain’t adding up for the NYY – as a RS fan I am not complaining of course. I am sure Steinbrenner is trying to figure it out too and can’t come up with a discernable answer…
