Bad Memories

We realize this is terribly alarmist of us, but Clay Buchholz has just hit the 60 Day DL due to his continuing, unsourced back pain. All we can think of is what happened to Jon Lester. To recall:

…doctors discovered enlarged lymph nodes when Lester was tested to determine the cause of back pain that sent him to the disabled list…

Of course, this could be many other things. But our memory is pretty fresh, and all we can really hope is that Clay’s back is just plain hurt and that it is nothing more serious. We hope, for his sake and his family’s sake, that it’s just a bad back.

  • Whoa. That hadn’t occurred to me. I’ve read that the Sox are concerned it’s something structural, maybe a broken bone.

  • Sounds like the doc Buchholz is going to see is a spinal expert. Were they concerned about cancer he’d probably be seeing an oncologist, I would think.

  • Sean McAdam reports it’s a stress fracture in his lower back. Probably out for the season, possibly but not likely available for the playoffs.
