Just “watching” on Gamecast, but Joba seems OK aside from the solo HR – all grounders & K’s otherwise. The Yanks’ unbelievably unclutch hitting w/ RISP continues strong into its second year (and second stadium!), and has even struck by beloved Swisher in the first inning today.
Ransom’s gotta go. There has to be players on the AA squad that will give you better than what he has.
Right field is SHORT. It’s like a Little League field.
It’s the same dimensions as the old stadium. Damon and Tex go back-to-back for our first lead in the new digs.
Gotta love the stupidest rule in sports! Joba K’s Martinez, safe at first after ball gets by Jorge.
My game day froze – is the game still going on? Or is there a delay?
Don’t know what happened w/ Gameday it froze after that K/reached first on passed ball by Martinez – although ESPN’s box scoring contradicts that play – it just says Martinez K’ed. And now the tear in the continuum seems to have frozen Gameday
OK, I’m back up and running in time to see a tied score.
The dimensions may be the same but the ball hops out. Melky just hit one in the second tier with no effort, on a line. The slightly altered orientation may have the wind slightly more prevailing towards right. That is four homers to right already.
isn’t the new stadium more open to the wind coming through the concorse?
SF – that seems to be what some are saying w/r/t the wind currents, but we won’t know that for sure for several years of years of seeing how the park plays, especially given the unusually powerful winds we’ve had in NY this year.
And yeah, I know Cano just hit another one out to right.
OK, the ongoing Park Effects Saga. Jeter just hit an opposit field HR. So far tonight: 8 flyballs to right, six have been HRs. The ball certainly is flying out of the park in that direction.
I did a bit of searching around, and the early bugaboo on the park from the Spring was that the ball carried very well out to right, but did not travel very well to center and left – Cubs manager Lou Pinella even described a “wind tunnel” in right center that was knocking the balls down.
Still waaaaaay to small of a sample size to really talk about (at the very least we have to see how it plays in the summer months), but: the difference in how the ball plays to RF and LF may or may not cancel each other out on balance, but it suggests lefty pitchers and hitters may become even more important to the Yanks. Or I guess they could drop another few mill and move back the RCF fences.
First blown save of the new stadium?!?!
Nope!
You wish.
What a great win. Brian Bruney is just sick. 18 K/9 right now.
Joba’s 93 pitches, 47 balls and 46 strikes is not very impressive….
I wonder if it’ll hinder ARod and his (now ill-fated) attempt to shatter the HR record..

Initial impressions:
Nice stadium experience
Concessions insanely inefficient
Hot dogs CRAZY overpriced
Centerfield scoreboard pretty awesome
