The Toast, it burns!!!!!
Holy sweet Moses Varitek homered.
Man, I’m not even scared anymore when Daisuke puts 2 guys on to start the inning…and when Tek homers in 2 games straight…it’s easy to think things are copacetic.
When Daisuke let the first two batters on I actually felt confident, Devine. I was like 95% sure he would strike out the side, which he almost did.
Ellsbury called out on a BS call?
aaaand another walk to start an inning.
Cora, you useless f***.
DAMNIT, Daisuke throws to 2nd and Cora drops it. He picks it up in time, but the ump still calls him safe.
Orioles broadcasters say that runner should be called safe even if he was out, because “you encourage the ump to call him safe by dropping the ball.” /gag
Aaaand another scoreless inning (got the DP a few pitches later than he should have).
is there a story on lowrie? or are the sox just preparing us for the impending suck that is lugo by showcasing cora’s brand of suck?
Funny story via the Orioles broadcasters: Terry Francona was doing magic tricks in the clubhouse and he did a trick where he made something in his hand disappear, and David Ortiz started yelling “That’s voodoo, man! That’s voodoo!” and ran out of the clubhouse.
Then he started asking if Tito could pull Manny out of a hat, and began softly weeping.
Ugh, I really butchered that “joke” with bad grammar.
The Orioles broadcasters keep saying that Pedroia has won a gold glove. Did I miss something?
Bad Dice-K = 50+ pitches to get through 3 innings.
More nervous than usual…maybe because the walk came with 2 outs instead of none.
OC 2, Ray 0, bot 4
Headline if Tampa loses tonight: Fay dumps Rays in Bay
Crap.
Dang it…that’s 1 run in. Gar.
And that’s two.
See, I don’t buy the Houdini thing. I think means get regressed to.
Leaves the 3rd with a lead, about a million pitches in.
ahhh. cora’s hitting .429 (12 for 28) vs. cabrera. everytime cora is in the lineup i scratch my head, then i look at the splits and it all makes sense.
Casey singles to start the 4th.
Casey, ya jackass.
making the second out at third is a sin. i guess with coco coming up you gotta do anything to advanced the runners.
God bless Coco!
cabrera was not even phased after being struck with the hardest batted ball by coco all year.
Ugh, having a day job implies you actually have time to do something else. This week it’s been more like a life job.
And why has no one told Sean Casey that he is not fast enough to EVER take the extra base?
Paul, he’s been doing it a lot (in my memory) in the last few weeks (and succeeding)–but yeah, it’s not the percentage play, I don’t think.
Time for more Houdini work, Dice-K.
Man, Daisuke is really living on the edge (again), and the O’s offense is too good to be doing that every inning. Also, the Sox batters need to get the memo that Daniel Cabrera has an ERA near 5.00.
Now 3-0 to Markakis. Argh.
Well, his ERA in this game is 6.75, yeah?
Wow Daisuke strikes out Mora. Heart skipped a beat there.
End the inning Daisuke.
0 for 13 with the bases loaded. Care to make it 0 for 14?
Can’t believe he got out of that inning. 90 pitches after 4.
Another escape… I agree that Matsuzaka will likely regress. Let’s just hope that it’s during spring training next season!
Impossible…and it keeps happening. More and more likely the pen will blow this one, though, unless the Sox offense opens it up.
Good GOD.
You know, I think the walk to Markakis was intentional. He wanted the bases loaded, because he becomes the Invincible Dice-K when the bases are loaded. That was the problem last inning – he gave up runs because only two men were on base, not three.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
That’s exactly why Casey should have stayed at second — so Pedroia could be up with the bases loaded. He rips his 40th double on the first pitch.
YOUK! 5-2 Sox!
PEACE! Youk drives it out for 2 runs.
YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK!
Youuuuuk!
Youk delivers! Awesome.
Can Jason Varitek not suck more than once in a game? Time to find out!
I’ve really enjoyed Youk’s “Manny” impersonation this month. Can you imagine where we’d be if he wasn’t OPS+’ing 145?
Hard to believe Youklilis looks like he’s heading easily for a 30-homer season. I don’t think anyone predicted that kind of ceiling for him. Just a terrific season thus far. Him, Drew and Bay may be one of the most impressive and underrated 4-5-6 combos in the game right now.
Holy crap Varitek doubled! That’s two hits in one game!
Nice.
Who is this man and what has he done with Jason Varitek?
The 6 touched bases is the most since Varitek homered, singled and walked on April 2.
And the Cora/Crisp Suck Brigade fails to get a run home. Oh well, that was one more run than I was expecting out of that inning.
Also, in the “everyone could have predicted this” department:

Ha, was that pitch to Lowrie really a strike?
Javy Lopez shows Dice-K what an efficient 1-2-3 inning looks like. Dice-K looks to his translator in confusion.
Tampa wins again, the Yankees lose again. Seems like the Sox are the only real variable at the moment.
Toronto pulls into a tie in the division with the Yankees if they win tomorrow. Oh, that would be sweet.
Ellsbury with a 2-hit night, and the Red Sox are winning 6-2. Things are looking up.
Errr nevermind… the Orioles broadcasters remind us that Buchholz is pitching tomorrow.
Plus there’s that big Beckett question mark hanging over things right now, Ath.
Uh… at this point, I wouldn’t be walking Ortiz to pitch to Youkilis if I were them.
Yup. Run-scoring single.
Papi gets an IBB and Youk makes them pay for it. This has happened like 20 times this season!
Wait what’s wrong with Beckett, stuck? Or are you just talking about his bad outing?
Finger numbness, Ath. His next start’s pushed back while they examine him. Hopefully there’s nothing going on with a pinched nerve or something.
They moved Beckett’s start to Tuesday due to “tingling and numbness.”
Wait, I stepped away to do some laundry for that inning — why’d Pedroia get tossed?
Arguing a check swing, I think, sw. I don’t know if he had words with the 1st base umpire, but he turned and had words with the guy at home after he grounded out.
Good game thus far. Nice job, Lopez. Great job, Masterson.
As expected, Matsuzaka. Can’t you at least go 6, you freak?
“…As expected, Matsuzaka. Can’t you at least go 6, you freak?…”
careful, devine, don’t tempt fate…at least the guy’s winning, somehow…in spite of himself…
So at what point do we start discussing Daisuke’s Cy Young chances? Out of the top 10 contenders he has the 4th most wins, tied with Lee for the fewest losses, 3rd highest K/9 ratio, and lowest opposing SLUG and BA. Obviously he’s only pitched 127 innings, and walks a LOT of people, but if he hits 20 wins while maintaining very few losses I think he has a great chance.
Personally I think it’ll be a crime if Halladay doesn’t win it, but we all know how Wins and Losses tend to matter more than real stats to the voters.
