  • Feels like this is going to be a letdown game. I hope I’m wrong.
Fucking Pirates. It should have been a day game on the getaway day.

  • Ah, so Moose goes again. Though this time without the 3 run lead..

    Lar July 10, 2008, 6:50 pm
  • And still without the lead..

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:26 pm
  • Christian ends the inning, so Moose will lead off next inning.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:28 pm
  • Wow, the Pirates have their pitcher hitting 8th.

    Atheose July 10, 2008, 7:40 pm
  • Hrmm, didn’t notice that. Am not paying _too_ much attention, trying to finish some work.
Abreu draws a walk and here’s ARod.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:47 pm
  • Wow, ARod took a huge swing, but a little bit late and missed.
Maholm at 39 pitches at 2+ change. Moose at 28 through 2.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:48 pm
  • The pitcher hitting 8th! Are they the only team to do that?

    rootbeerfloat July 10, 2008, 7:48 pm
  • Abreu stole *easily* on the 1-2 pitch that was way inside, no throw, and a base hit away from a lead.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:48 pm
  • ARod smacks it, but left it up a little bit, and McLouth ran it down in center, just in front of the warning track.
rbf – maybe this year. I remember in the McGwire HR breaking years, the pitcher would bat eight, because McGwire was batting 3rd. You have to ask LaRussa on that one. Though my memory could also be faulty..

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:49 pm
  • The 9th hitter, Wilson smacks a double the other way for a lead off double.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:51 pm
  • McLouth got the job done, a weak ground to Posada, who’s playing first, moving Wilson to third with 1 out.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:53 pm
  • Sanchez singles *just* over the leaping Jeter and Wilson will come in to put Pittsburgh up by one.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:55 pm
  • Doumit singles to Abreu, who tries to throw out Sanchez going to third. ARod alertly catches it and guns it to second for the tag on Doumit running on the throw. Two outs, men on third.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:59 pm
  • Moose already at 43 pitches. Throwing a lot of strikes, but not getting the job done.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 7:59 pm
  • Jason Bay strikes out to end the inning with one run scored. Actually not so bad, considering 1 ER in 3 IP is an ERA of 3. Still, Pittsburgh looks good today, but that out at second looks big right now.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 8:01 pm
  • After 3, Moose at 46, Maholm at 42 pitches.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 8:01 pm
  • Posada will try to provide some production at 1B as he leads off the inning.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 8:02 pm
  • And strikes out on a nasty changeup. 1 away on 4 pitches.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 8:03 pm
  • Alright, got to run, go Yankees!
    Cano did ground out though.

    Lar July 10, 2008, 8:06 pm
  • I knew this game would be infuriating. It had all the makings. And Maholm only at 78 pitches through 6 IP.

    A YF July 10, 2008, 8:49 pm
  • They should leave Betemit in to pitch. At least this game would become interesting.

  • Talking to myself. What else is new? Heeeeellllllooooo….
SF, my friend, are you there?

    A YF July 10, 2008, 9:02 pm
  • And a rally! Two days in a row for Bobby?

    A YF July 10, 2008, 9:05 pm
  • He did it again! Bobby Abreu as sweet as candy! The motherfucker smacked that shit!
(Could Sterling drop some f-bombs everyone once in a while? maybe call Waldman a dirty slut and a filthy whore? At least he’d become interesting…)

    A YF July 10, 2008, 9:08 pm
  • Damn. Well, hopefully that’s it for Maholm. I like our chances with bullpens. Mmmmmm, Dan Giese…

    A YF July 10, 2008, 9:11 pm
  • Of course. Fuck.
That’s it. I’m leaving now to stick my finger in an ice cone. Hopefully we don’t find a little Paul at the bottom of the barrel.

    A YF July 10, 2008, 9:18 pm
  • Rays also losing. Would be quite nice for the Sox to gain a half-game on both sides tonight.

    Paul SF July 10, 2008, 9:19 pm
  • Indians now up 8-2 in the eighth on an E-3.

    Paul SF July 10, 2008, 9:25 pm
  • Indians now up 8-2 in the eighth on an E-3.

    Paul SF July 10, 2008, 9:26 pm
  • 10-2 Cleveland now, so that game’s all but over. Sox likely to be 1.5 back…

    Paul SF July 10, 2008, 9:30 pm
  • Raise the jolly Roger? WTF does that mean? A good day for the Sox, as the Yanks fall 5 games back of them, and they pull 1.5 back of the Rays…

    Paul SF July 10, 2008, 9:44 pm
  • i think that means “raise the pirate(s) flag”.
the rays may have found their “turning point” for the season as well.

  • Bad thread title. Hindsight sez it shoulda been “worse than nothing.”

    attackgerbil July 11, 2008, 3:08 am
  • Tough game, if only because we want those runs back! Also, Maholm? Really?
By the way, it’s Joe Saunders..

    Lar July 11, 2008, 9:16 am
  • It’s “Jolly Roger”, if this clears up any confusion..

    Lar July 11, 2008, 9:20 am
  • Can someone explain Sterling’s ‘Bobby Abreu as sweet as candy’ thing? I don’t get it.

    ponch - sf July 11, 2008, 10:49 am
  • As others have said, the Jolly Roger is a flag traditionally flown on pirate ships, often a skull and crossbones.
That “sweet as candy” remark though, I have no effing idea. It kinda scares me, really.

  • His nickname is “El Comedulce”

    John - YF July 11, 2008, 11:14 am
  • That’s what he’s referring to.
