Better Late than Never: M’s-Sox Gamer III

Not sure what happened to Team SF today. Seattle has thus far blown 3 and 2 run leads against the Sox. Let’s hope they get another and keep it. Comment here….

  • Sox now have the lead 7-5 on a throwing miscue in the top of the 7th.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:11 pm
  • lots of hits so far…

    z118 July 23, 2006, 6:12 pm
  • Lester has not been sharp at all. For some reason we still have him in the game. the leash should be short so we do not squander what we worked hard to get.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:13 pm
  • …Gamecast and Gameday froze up with Papi’s hit. MLBtv.com locked me out. Can’t catch a break here.

    Tom sf July 23, 2006, 6:13 pm
  • Delcarmen and Hansen should be fresh. They did not throw at all yesterday.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:13 pm
  • Gamecast has been acting squirrely during this game.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:14 pm
  • Lester pitching in front of family and friends today. Nerves?

    Tom sf July 23, 2006, 6:14 pm
  • I watched the score go to 2-0 Mariners. Played videogames for awhile (Prince of Persia: Sands of Time). Come back a little later and it’s 3-3. Sweet. Mariners 2-run homer. Time for more videogames (God of War). Now I’m back and it’s 7-5, but Lester has coughed up a single to start the inning and Hansen is on.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:14 pm
  • Maybe. The kid is young and that would not surprise me at all.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:15 pm
  • We definately need this win. A good chance for us to put that game back in the lead we squandered yesterday. Especially with us playing Oakland next.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:16 pm
  • Hope Gonzo’s okay there. Great jumping catch.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:16 pm
  • Lester definately jacked up his ERA today.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:17 pm
  • Of all the young arms, Hansen has certainly (in my opinion) been the one that’s been least reliable.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:19 pm
  • Bear down Hansen. Do not get a case of the Tavarez’s in you.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:19 pm
  • Two on, 1 out.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:19 pm
  • Good pitch on the outer part that gets Ichiro half-committed for strike 2. Then a foul. 1-2 count to Ichiro.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:20 pm
  • Slapped the other way and Lowell can only get the guy coming from 2nd.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:21 pm
  • That is true Devine. One game he looks unhittable and the next he looks as shaky as a crack addict three day without a hit.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:21 pm
  • Since Dave Chappelle did that stand-up, “Killin’ Them Softly”, any mention of crack automatically is funny to me, Rob.
    Walks ’em loaded.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:24 pm
  • Hansen is throwing too many balls this inning. It is like he trying to live on the outer edges of the strike zone.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:24 pm
  • as I posted on the yanks thread a lil while ago, anyone wondering how the 06 draftees are doing I have comiled the stats for all the signees who have begun playing
    http://travisjliles.com/redsox.aspx

    TJ July 23, 2006, 6:24 pm
  • *breathe* Strike 1.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:25 pm
  • Still, Lester’s ERA only just above 3. And he can’t lose this one. So his win streak is intact.
Now if Hansen can only throw a strike and get 1 more out…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:25 pm
  • *breathe* Strike 2. Big swing.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:26 pm
  • Swing and a miss! Out of the jam!

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:26 pm
  • Huuuuge K!

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:26 pm
  • Man, Beltre’s numbers really suck this year. 7 HRs, 41RBI. And he Ks with the bases loaded on 3 ptches. Bet Seattle wants their money back!

    Tom sf July 23, 2006, 6:27 pm
  • That’s a big moment. Now we leave it to Delcarmlinbon…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:28 pm
  • Delcarmlinbon? THAT is funny.

    Tom sf July 23, 2006, 6:30 pm
  • Still a 2-run lead…9 outs to go.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:32 pm
  • Even though my head tells me Lowell isn’t likely to come close to his first half numbers the rest of the season (0 for 4 today), my heart wants him to stay in Boston…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:32 pm
  • Delcarmlinbon is much more reliable than the double dumb twins.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:32 pm
  • I think that it is safe that he will be staying in Boston. I do not think that the FO will screw with the everyday players right now with the chemistry the way it is.
Then again to prove me wrong…..

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:33 pm
  • Delcarmlinbon: It tells you all you need to know. 7th/8th/9th, nine outs, hopefully a minimum of hits and walks, likely no runs and a win at the end. It makes me smile.
Plus it’s quite fun to say…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:34 pm
  • The one name that seems to be coming up as possible trade bait is Pena. Boston.com has the teams who are interested ans what we could possibly get from some of them.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:35 pm
  • Kevin Towers told SD newspapers rumors of a deal were untrue. Not sure if that means a deal involving Peavy or a deal with Boston at all. There’s a couple teams though that need a quality 3B, and Lowell’s sell price is probably as high as it’ll ever be… And we would NEVER have pegged Nomar as the guy to be traded in ’04, so…
But I don’t think he’ll be traded either. I just think he’s among the more likely ones to go if we make a trade.

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:37 pm
  • Delcarmen K’s Ibanez to start.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:37 pm
  • Delcarmen fans the 1st batter.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:37 pm
  • Thanks, Rob, I’ll have to check that out… I’ve neglected The Buzz lately…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:38 pm
  • I think the only way Lowell would get traded would be for pitching, and the names supposedly on the trading block suck. I would just as soon keep Willie Mo at this point, too.

    Tom sf July 23, 2006, 6:39 pm
  • Agree Paul, Lowell is definately a big $$. That was the point a lot of GMs were making regarding the low cost of Pena.
I do not know if there is a pitcher out there that really is worth trading for right now. Let me rephrase this, there is really no pitcher worth selling the future for.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:40 pm
  • The buzz has been slow to update the last few weeks. Now that the deadline is approaching it is updating again pretty regularly.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:41 pm
  • Full count to Sexson. Then…a single to left.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:41 pm
  • For those Patriot fans out there. Ty Law has signed with the Chiefs on a 5 yr deal.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:42 pm
  • That a curveball? Yep, Remy says so. Swining K, either way.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:43 pm
  • Well, Peavy and Willis would work for me (as far as dealing good prospects goes), but they’re not for sale…
Delcarmen Ks Perez for the second out. I can’t see the game, but I’m guessing his curveball continues to make batters pee their pants…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:44 pm
  • Ewwww…a Manny gaffe leads to a run scored and a runner on 2nd, instead of runners at 1st and 2nd, or at worst, 1st and 3rd.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:45 pm
  • There goes the lead….

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:46 pm
  • And a single, so that run scores. Tie.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:46 pm
  • I’m in Tennessee at the folks’ house celebrating my birthday, so I missed a good portion of the Globe this morning — reading the Pena story now…
CRAP! Delcarmen gave that up in a hurry…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:46 pm
  • People, that was NOT a double. That’s a Manny error and if this were at Fenway, would’ve been correctly scored.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:47 pm
  • So what happened?

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:48 pm
  • prosportsdaily.com
This is another good web site to look at. There is a news link and rumors link for the major pro sports. You can get a good gauge on some of the trade rumors and thigs that are swirling about on the national level.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:48 pm
  • Maybe I should stop watching this game. Everytime I come in, the Sox stop scoring runs and the Mariners start.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:49 pm
  • Welcome to the Volunteer Sate, Paul. You picked a nice weekend; the heat moved out on Friday.
Not a good day for Sox rookie pitchers. I hope Paps gets a chance for a save and pulls it out for the rooks.

    Tom sf July 23, 2006, 6:49 pm
  • Happy Birthday Paul.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:49 pm
  • Devine, just…. get out. Just get out!

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:50 pm
  • inning over..choke up the lead. Great.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:50 pm
  • Paul, Manny reached out, and kinda fell (?) almost sitting on the ball (?) and it rolled slowly to Coco…
Tied at 7…to the top of the 8th.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:51 pm
  • Thanks. The Sox lost yesterday (my actual birthday, boo). Tom, the wife and I drove through the front that kicked the heat out of here. From Little Rock through Memphis, it was nothing but blinding rain and lightning…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:51 pm
  • Time to score some runs. We need our a-game this inning to get the lead back to hand to Timlin.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:51 pm
  • Well, I imagine the papers will have all sorts of things to say about Manny, considering Edes found it fit to throw in an aside about Ramirez’s standing “for three full seconds” after getting a base hit yesterday…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:52 pm
  • Apparently, they have stopwatches for whenever Manny gets a hit so they can time how long it takes him to leave the batter’s box. I definitely question the accuracy of such a statement. Three FULL seconds? Not two seconds? Not on, but it just seemed like longer? So stupid… No place for that in a non-column newspaper article…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:54 pm
  • Here’s a good one.
My father in law is a landscaper in Atlanta. During all star weekend he went to a house to do landscaping and the house belonged to Varitek. He decides to call my wife and I later in the night to tell me.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:54 pm
  • He’s headed back to his house in September to do some more work there. I may have to smuggle myself on to his crew and get a close up.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:55 pm
  • All right, c’mon Youk!!

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:55 pm
  • Regardless…Delcarmen’s, Timlin’s and Papelbon’s ERAs are 3.48, 2.29, and 0.54 respectively. Delcarmen’s would have been under 3 if not for the idiocy last inning.
    That’s a nice 7-8-9 inning combo.

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:55 pm
  • That must have been a fun drive, Paul. Too bad, I40 between Litle Rock and Memphis is normally a good place to fly…Arkansas doesn’t put too many troopers out there at night. Last time I drove it I went 90 – 100 mph the whole way. Yes, I have a radar detector. Except in Texas.
    C’mon, Youk! More runs!

    Tom sf July 23, 2006, 6:57 pm
  • Okay…I’m gonna be off the computer for awhile, probably the rest of the game. Good luck!

    Devine July 23, 2006, 6:57 pm
  • Draws the walk — a good series for him thus far… Let’s go M-Lor!

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:57 pm
  • Yeah, we were going 45-50 just west of Little Rock cuz of the rain. Only way we could tell where the road was was following a tractor trailer in front of us…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 6:58 pm
  • argh Loretta.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 6:59 pm
  • Grrr, double play on a 2-0 count…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:00 pm
  • Wow, this turned into a great game. Went away for a few innings and missed all the fun.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:00 pm
  • Grrrrrrrrr. But you know who’s up to start next inning…
Keep the game tied! Now I’m leaving…

    Devine July 23, 2006, 7:01 pm
  • When the guy walks the hitter in front of you and starts 2-0 on you, make him throw strikes! Especially with Papi on deck…
    *sigh*
Nothing worse than having a late lead and blowing it while the offense simultaneously stops scoring…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:01 pm
  • Unless it’s bringing Sidney Pnson out to get spanked by Vernon Wells…
    That might be worse.

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:02 pm
  • “great game”, Gerb? This game is horrid. Bad defense, bad pitching, blown leads, ghastly at-bats with swings at balls in the dirt. Just awful to watch, for fans of both teams.

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:03 pm
  • Is it just me or are the Seattle fans really annoying?

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:04 pm
  • Timlin’s in, gets a quick out. At least Tavarez and Seanez (Tavaranez?) will be too tired to pitch… We hope.

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:04 pm
  • Bad pitching is what Wilson did for Ny earlier today. The guy gave up three HRs in one inning (2-3r and 1-2r)

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:05 pm
  • West Coast fans in general are really annoying. Jared, my Yankee-fan friend, and I both despise Angels fans… Noise sticks. Please. If you can’t make enough noise with your hands, feet and mouths, why bother?

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:05 pm
  • Bad attempt at sarcasm on my part. This is coming from a guy who watched all of that vomit fest that was the earlier effort from NY.
    I’m a pitcher’s duel type fan.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:05 pm
  • No Paul, the dumb a** twins.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:06 pm
  • I have no words for how bad that play was. Terry Francona should make these f*cking a**holes do wind sprints after the game is over. Pathetic. I am going away now.

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:06 pm
  • Why would you do that to yourself, AG? Masochism your style?

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:07 pm
  • No way. Beltre in the park homer? or was that an error?

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:07 pm
  • Really, first, what the hell was Coco jumping for if he couldn’t see the ball? And second, could Manny make a lazier effort after backing the play up? I mean, if you’re gonna back it up, then BACK THE FUCKING PLAY UP.

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:08 pm
  • Coco faces the wrong way, Manny over-runs the ball, Coco misses the cutoff… oof.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:08 pm
  • Hmmmm. Based on GameCast and SF’s remarks, someone did something dumb to allow this to happen… 8-7 Seattle on an inside-the-park home run…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:08 pm
  • Crisp’s arm in center looks to be even worse than advertised…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:09 pm
  • I am sitting here in shock. I looked at weather.com for 2 seconds to look at a thunderstorm warning and all hell broke loose.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:09 pm
  • Paul: I just bought the MLB package for the second part of the season. I feel like I *have* to watch games to get my money out of it. Today was kind of like paying someone to light my hair on fire and put it out with a hammer.
    So yeah, I guess I’m a masochist.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:09 pm
  • Some one had better man up.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:10 pm
  • Coco jumped thinking he was going to have another Web Gem.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:10 pm
  • Gerb:
Coco ran back on a ball mashed, tried to do the climb the wall thing, even though he apparently never saw the ball – it bounced off the top of the wall about six feet behind him. Then Manny, who was over to back it up, sort of half-assed tried to grab the ball as it bounded off the wall, and knocked it backwards. When it was finally thrown back towards the infield it missed everyone and squirted away towards third, where Lowell (I think it was Lowell) picked it up and threw home too late. I call it a double and two one-base errors. Calling it an inside-the-parker fails to acknowledge how idiotic the Sox looked. They deserve to lose this game, flat-out, playing like little leaguers.

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:10 pm
  • Seattle sends in a new pitcher. Score some runs off this Putz!

    Tom sf July 23, 2006, 7:12 pm
  • Manny needs to hit a game-winning homer to avoid the inevitable castigation to come.
Now what’s sad is that most fans will dismiss it as media silliness because so often it is… Buckley and Shaughnessy have cried wolf so often, when they jump on Manny for real problems (laziness in backing up plays, for example), no one will listen, which can feed their persecution complexes, etc etc etc…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:12 pm
  • He’s a flame thrower also.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:12 pm
  • That was Coco’s fault. Why was he jumping? The ball was almost 10 feet behind him – then, a hideous throw into the infield. Manny was over there, and made a bad play, but Coco’s gotta do better than jumping for a ball that he has to field if it stays in the park.

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:14 pm
  • Ohhh Papi :-(

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:14 pm
  • Papi K’s

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:14 pm
  • Man up Manny.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:15 pm
  • Crap Crap Crap

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:17 pm
  • Manny claims he foul tipped it but gets rung up swinging.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:17 pm
  • Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. I hate these fucking types of games. Give me the 13-5 drubbing anytime, not these “should have won except for the massive brainfart and inside-the-parker-from-a-washout” crap.

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:18 pm
  • So we sit and pray for the Captain.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:18 pm
  • All up to the Captain now…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:18 pm
  • And this is the league leading defense?

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:18 pm
  • Tek with a monster blast off the hit it here cafe.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • Cap’n!

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • TEK!

    TJ July 23, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • And this is the league leading defense?

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • TEK!!!!!!!!
    TEK DOES IT!!!!

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • This Putz can’t close!

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • oh shit!!!!

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • Tek just killed that ball. Fastball right down in the zone from Putz.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • My reactions always tend to be a bit more emotional than everyone else’s. Kinda makes me feel silly…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:20 pm
  • Please do not let this be another 18 inning game.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:20 pm
  • That ball was mauled.

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:21 pm
  • Lowell pops out to Ichiro in right but it’s a tie game again.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:21 pm
  • i need 4 more Ks for my fantasy this week so a few innings more with some Ks for the pitching staff helps me :P

    TJ July 23, 2006, 7:21 pm
  • We have Paps in the pen and the dumb a** twins.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:21 pm
  • My wife will not be pleased to know this game is going to extra innings. I think she is going to take the remote…

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:22 pm
  • Rough game for MikeMike…
Still, let’s at least get it to the 10th, boys…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:22 pm
  • SF…do not give up the remote.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:23 pm
  • Are we an arm short in the pen? Shouldn’t there be (Lopez/Breslow/whoever) in there too?

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:23 pm
  • Good. Timlin out for a second inning. If we can get three from Papelbon, we can avoid using the EZ twins…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:24 pm
  • We sent Lopez back down and Breslow. We brought back up someone who had been up earlier in the year and pitched good. Name escapes me.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:25 pm
  • Sexson ends it. Sorry Sox fans. That was ugly.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:25 pm
  • Never mind. Game over.

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:26 pm
  • That was fun!

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:26 pm
  • SF: to answer your earlier question about Seattle fans being annoying, the short answer is yes. The long answers is “Hells, yeah.”

    attackgerbil July 23, 2006, 7:26 pm
  • That sucked.
    A lot.

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:27 pm
  • Van Buren was in the pen also.
    This sucks.

    Rob July 23, 2006, 7:27 pm
  • Sure would have been nice to get back up to 3.5 before facing a team like the A’s. We shoulda-coulda swept this series or at least won two. Pathetic… At least the Yanks lost.

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:28 pm
  • You save Papelbon for a save situation, and now all he gets is an extra day of rest. Well done, Tito.

    SF July 23, 2006, 7:28 pm
  • I woulda kept Timlin in that second inning. He’d only thrown 12 pitches or so in the eighth, and if the game goes extras, you want Papelbon to be there in the 11th or 12th.
I was surprised he pitched Delhansen in the Game 1 blowout, necessitating the use of the EZ twins in a tie game. That was mystifying…

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:31 pm
  • Two games literally thrown away by the best defense in baseball. I know that during the course of a 162-season these things happen. But it doesn’t make it any less infuriating.

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:35 pm
  • Looks like I’m ranting to myself, so I’ll bid everyone adieu and try to put baseball out of my mind for the rest of the evening. Long drive tomorrow :-\
    Have a good night, everyone!

    Paul SF July 23, 2006, 7:39 pm
  • our game thread killed the yankee one in posts and we only had it for what 3 innings :P

    TJ July 23, 2006, 7:41 pm
  • I wanted to chime in, but it would seem like gloating and I have nothing at all to gloat about. G’night, Paul
