Blue Oyster Cult Reference Already Used

The hot stove is hot! Jakarta at noon hot! The latest Yankee-related rumor bums me out. Word is Hideki Matsui is heading to Anaheim.

This means the Vladimir Guerrero era is over in Anaheim. Hmm, quick thought: Would Vlad be a match for the Yanks?

  • Yanks would be stupid to let Matsui go and then sign Vlad. Matsui is superior to Vlad, in my opinion.

  • No thank you.

  • Seems we just need another starter, reliever and we’re good to go…let the title defense begin!!! I’m cool with Melky in LF and no Damon…

  • What the.. Matsui to Angels for 6.5 mil? Why did the Yanks not jump on that? On ads alone the Yanks would make it back, and you would think Matsui would come back because of marketing possibilities..

  • Cash has a plan…no more slow, non-defense playing dudes. Rotating DH seems to be the general idea?

  • 6.5 mil. Are you kidding me?

  • I think Matsui getting a chance to play the field is a bigger factor than you think. It could reestablish his value so he can get a bigger deal next offseason. With the Yankees, he might not even get to play a full season.

  • I think the press release is saying he’s their full time DH.

  • That’s not the “playing the field” that Andrew is talking about, Lar.

  • Heh, very funny Ath.
But I think I read somewhere that the Angels might try him out in the outfield, which the Yankees were completely unwilling to do.

  • Oh, I wasn’t trying to be funny; I legitimately thought you meant “play the field” as in “see what else is out there”

  • sad to see him go…he was one of my favorite players, even before he won the series mvp…but, i can’t let sentiment get in the way…he’s a dh only…his knees won’t hold up playing the outfield every day…that’s why the yanks started resting and dh-ing him, and he had a great year…cashman has already gone on record as saying the marketing angle is overrated lar, or he was rationalizing matsui’s departure…as for the other half of this, please, no vlad…he’s done, and he’d clog up the dh merry-go-round cashman has planned…
