Bombers Away: Yanks-Royals Sunday Gamer

Yankee fans can sit and worry today, as Derek Jeter is replaced in the lineup by disgraced Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. Derek is out with patella tendinitis; hopefully a day or two off and he’s back to normal. The AG should get a few attempts today, with Chien-Ming Wang looking to place himself alone atop the ML win leader board. Perhaps Alex will hit a few more dingers to help out. Former BP superhero Zach Greinke, back to the rotation after being dumped into the bullpen in April, goes for the Royals. He’s pitched well of late but carries a 14.73 era this season in relief work against the Yanks.

  • Okay, I’m in before A-Rod hits A-bomb #51… and before any Sox fan inevitably decides to jump in with “well 2 bad he’ll be gone next yr!!!”
Chien-Ming Wang, Taiwan’s favorite son, goes for his 18th. 加油!

  • he hit 51 last nite doug!

    YF September 9, 2007, 11:28 am
  • Did he? Oh man, that’s what I get for watching the 2 AM Baseball Tonight re-airing. Wow. This is embarrassing.

Do you know something about the Orioles-Sox game that noone else does? Doesn’t Beckett pitch as well? Or are you just doing the cocky YF thing and pesuming a loss for the Sox and a win for the Yankees?

    SF September 9, 2007, 12:44 pm
  • Maybe Beckett gets a no-decision as Okajima and his tired, not-used-to-American-workloads arm blows another one?
Meanwhile, it seems like Jeter’s been hurt for half the season. He’s obviously not been right for a while, and yet he still manages to be batting .318.

  • Abreu steals with Alex up and 2 out? NO! Why??? Let Alex hit.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:18 pm
  • An ABomb from AAAAAA-Rod!!!

    John - YF (Trisk) September 9, 2007, 2:19 pm
  • GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They pitch to Alex and PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do they pitch to him?????

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:19 pm
  • YF, you are soooo right man, I don’t get it. It’s not even like he’s hitting bad pitches, they are challenging him. It’s really crazy at this point. What a season.

    John - YF (Trisk) September 9, 2007, 2:20 pm
  • Matsui follows with a single.
Inconceivable that they pitch to Alex with an open base and 2 out. Collosally stupid.
But boy. Alex. Sheesh. What a roll. 5th straight game with a homer.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:21 pm
  • Jorge singles, and Gload misplays it. Men on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs now. Yanks can blow this open with a hit here.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:22 pm
  • Trisk. Yeah. They’re throwing him pitches on hitters counts. I sorta can kinda possibly understand going at him early in a game with an even or pitcher’s count (but avoid the zone!), but they’re grooving pitches to him when he can just sit back and wait for something over the middle. AND IT COMES.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:24 pm
  • ARod with a monster shot. Let’s go Giambi in padding that lead!

    Lar September 9, 2007, 2:24 pm
  • It’s really just being stubborn. Outside, outside, outside, and more outside. Worst case he walks.

    John - YF (Trisk) September 9, 2007, 2:25 pm
  • Giambi flies out, but not before getting 33 pitches out of Greinke. Could’ve been more for the Yanks, but we do have our ace on the mound..

    Lar September 9, 2007, 2:27 pm
  • Giambi flies out on 3-2 to end it. Giambi not looking good these days, but that can change in a hurry with him. Right now, though he’s rally death. His OBP is only around .345. That’s awful for him.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:28 pm
  • I gotta leave work and get in front of this game.

    attackgerbil September 9, 2007, 2:28 pm
  • It is, but at least he’s still not giving away at bats. An 8 pitch at bat means at least he’s staying patient.
Apparently Wang leads the league in run support. Damn he’s lucky!
Gathright with a bunt infield single to Giambi.

    Lar September 9, 2007, 2:29 pm
  • So much for the no-no. Perfect bunt for Gathright and he’s on to lead off.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:30 pm
  • Gathright CS! Nice throw by Jorge. Betemit at 2nd makes a nice tag.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:32 pm
  • Or are you just doing the cocky YF thing and pesuming a loss for the Sox and a win for the Yankees?
Because SF would never be cocky about the Sox or anything but kindness itself about the Yankees.

    anon September 9, 2007, 2:32 pm
  • DeJesus out 3-1 on an easy grounder to Giambi. Nice hop by Wang to get an awkward toss from Giambi.
Gload flies out to JD in left and the Yanks are out of the first clean….

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:33 pm
  • Looking through the games, I can find about one or two wins that you could argue could be losses. But I’ve also found a couple losses or no-decisions that should have been wins.
Wang’s run support has been exceptional because of several blow-outs. I think he’s proven himself to be a top-flight pitcher, no question.

    AndrewYF September 9, 2007, 2:36 pm
  • No question.
Robi with a lash single up the middle to lead off the 2nd.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:37 pm
  • you beta you beta you beetamit! 2b into the rf corner scores robi from 1st.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:41 pm
  • JD fly to center moves Betemit to 3rd w/ 1 out.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:43 pm
  • Melkster grounds to first. Betemit holds. Abreu up w/ 2 outs.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:47 pm
  • excuse me. 2 on.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:47 pm
  • Alex ks on hi heat. wow. greinke gave him a pitch to hit on 0-0, got a lucky call on a check swing at 0-1, and then put the fastball by him on 0-2. playing with fire there. meanwhile, yanks up 3-0.

    YF September 9, 2007, 2:50 pm
  • Big strikeout for Wang.

    doug YF September 9, 2007, 3:27 pm
  • crap crap crap. tie game.

    doug YF September 9, 2007, 3:33 pm
  • (Gordon doubles w/ the bases loaded)

    doug YF September 9, 2007, 3:33 pm
  • … and Wang gets out of that inning quickly after giving up those runs. Let’s get that lead back.

    doug YF September 9, 2007, 3:36 pm
  • “in play, (runs)”
one of my favorite Gameday phrases.

    doug YF September 9, 2007, 3:46 pm
  • Yankees up 5-3~!

    doug YF September 9, 2007, 3:46 pm
  • Yanks win. Seattle win, so we’re up 4.
