I don’t usually go in for the “mystique/je ne sais quoi/team of destiny” stuff. Gimme talent and data to evaluate that talent, not intangible qualities that may or may not exist/may or may not have bearing on the outcome of baseball games.
But for the past year or so, the team I think of as having that quality is the Orioles. They are the “it” team; they’ll come back and get you just when you think you’ve got ’em beat, they’re better than it seems like they should be, etc., etc.
Which is all to say that splitting this 4-game set at Camden Yards would be just fine, thanks.
It starts with Doubront (who’s been solid enough recently) against Kevin Gausman. Gausman, a rookie, has made 4 starts for the Orioles this year. 3 of them (against TB, TOR, and WSH) were absolutely awful. 1 (against DET) was good. He is 0-3 with an 8.84 ERA. The Red Sox have handled rookies and righties well this year. Let’s see if that continues.
