Daniel Rodriguez, the wonderful singing policeman who belted out the Anthem and Gold Bless America with such inspiration and heart in the wake of 9/11 (before that godawful jughead took over), made his debut on the opera stage this week—he’s been working as a soloist for the last few years, while training under Placido Domingo (not bad!)—singing Pagliacci with the Chelsea Opera Company. And guess what: According to Times music critic Anthony Tommasini, no pushover, our boy, if a bit raw, has serious chops. We’re hoping for a return engagement at the Stadium sometime soon. Robert Merrill would be damn proud.
