Bush League

You know you play in a lame baseball town when they shoot off fireworks after a third inning solo shot, as they do in Texas.  One thing us SFs and YFs can agree on is that Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium are both a bit dignified for the trashy explosions of leftover July 4th Roman candles when our teams go up 1-0.

  • Could it be that someone’s just a tad bitter about his pitching staff allowing such dingers.
We’ll grant that said explosions belong neither in the Bronx or the Fens, but the exploding scoreboard is at this point a legit tradition–thank you Bill Veeck! Though we’ll also grant that few such pyrotechnic displays live up to Veeck’s creative original.
    Boom!

  • This wasn’t no stinkin’ exploding scoreboard, YF. We wish.
This was, as I stated, lame parking-lot-grade roman candles shooting up over the faux-19th century ironwork that is the architectural hackery of “the Ballpark”.

  • Please. “The Ballpark.” Capital T.

  • One more thing, and I am not sure it’s worthy of it’s own thread, but if Kevin Millar is so valuable in the clubhouse, how about the Sox cut him, give him a microphone and a spot on the bench next to Tito as the “team media deflection consultant and official comedian of the club”, and find someone who can actually hit? I keep reading that he’s a “streak hitter”, but when is that streak going to start? December?
(the same goes for Mark Bellhorn, who I am getting totally sick of watching, whatever those trustworthy sabermetricians say)

  • Add the fact that NESN is blacked out on DirecTV, I have to watch this (so far) disaster of a game on Fox Sports Texas, and you have the makings of a pretty horrid evening (hence the surly mood).
Just for an example of what we’re talking about, the Rangers’ semi-literate announcers just explained that a ball hit by Edgar Renteria failed to get out of the ballpark due to the “jetstream”. Go figure.

  • Yes, Kevin! The “Reverse Jinx” in full effect!!!
(Channeling YF here with the maniacal in-game posts)

  • Nice Job SF. From now on, just hop on and make a negative post about bad performances during the game when possible. However, I think you could post to infinity and it’s not going to solve the Bellhorn problem:)
