well, i can…as the yanks go through the motions preparing to get swept by the rays by [probably] getting swept at the hands of the rangers, it appears inevitable that they will not only blow the division, but will make another early exit from the playoffs as a wild card with no starting rotation, and little or no consistency in the offense…as i write this they are getting no-hit by cliff lee, another star pitcher that we are certain to overpay this off season…luckily the jays just walked off on the rays, and moseley is giving the rest of the yankee starters a pitching lesson…this team is wearing me out…sheesh

But seriously, Pettitte is coming back next week and we’ll probably still win the WS. I am trying to evoke ’99 in all of this. Yes, we have looked like complete shit since the All-Star game but I am hoping, HOPING that once the playoffs start, that the CHAMPIONS will return and lead us to the promise land…

yeah, i’m hoping that this is just one of those blah spells that all teams have during the season no matter how good they are, and the yanks have time to get things right before the playoffs start…i’ll be at wedn. game in tampa…me, my daughter, and probably a dozen or so rays fans…

Fuck the Yankees dude…we suck. We’re under .500 against playoff teams so that tells you all you need to know. They are content with last years success and don’t really care about this year. They are all having career shit seasons and just want to hit the golf course the second week of October.

we do suck krueg…luckily, so does everyone else…the only team in our division over .500 for the last 10 games is baltimore…we are suffering from an inability to capitalize on a great opportunity, by leaving men on base, a fluke [mo hitting a guy], shaky starting pitching [hello again aj vazquez]…vazquez will probably end up in the bullpen, and i’d stick burnout there too, if i were making the decisions…these next 19 games will tell us a lot about what kind of team we have entering the post season, with 7 against tampa, 6 against boston, 3 against toronto, and 3 against baltimore, who we lost 2 out of 3 against just last week…yeah, we’re probably still in the playoffs, but limping in, and after that, i don’t have high hopes right now…that could change, i suppose…
an aside on burnout…the yankees really need to reconsider the process they go through to determine if potential acquisitions really have “what it takes” to be a yankee [whatever that means ;) ], because they really missed the mark with burnout…he reminds me so much of kevin brown, i can’t stand it…and vazquez still looks like he gets the yips now and then despite all the denials…oh well…

I have no idea what their process is, I mean, Cash has made some great deals…Marte, Wood, Kearns, Berkman (getting better)have all worked out OK. And when it comes to signings Tex and CC are no brainers, but AJ and Vazquez are atrocious.
Who the hell knows man. All I know is that the last two months or so have been unwatchable. I realize we have the best record and are in 1st place but to me, and most YF’s I would imagine, all that matters is the playoffs. This group is certainly capable of winning it all, they proved that last year, but they just don’t seem to have that same spark. Injuries aside, we are good enough to beat anyone, anytime.
Here’s to hoping they turn it on in October. I’m not even sure I can bear to watch tonight. I barely watched any of the games Saturday and Sunday. It was unwatchable garbage.

This has to be some of the worst managing I’ve ever seen. There is no excuse, no excuse not to have someone warming behind Gaudin while he’s loading the bases. I don’t care that he struck out Hawpe. That was criminal managing on Girardi’s part. Gaudin over Mariano, Joba or Robertson in a tie game against our main divisional rivals in September?

my god. I have still have movement on both sides of my body. I don’t think I can watch a Girardi-led team anymore. He’s really turned on the stupid recently. Curtis gets out because he’s a caree minor leaguer. Because you wanted to depend on his bat over Granderson’s bat because Curtis has a better track record.

I really don’t care anymore…we’ll get the Wild Card unless we spiral out of it completely which seems possible seeing as we appear to have given up at this point?
Wake me up when the playoffs start…if we make it. Fuck them.

I am done waiting for Andy Pettitte. We must get him back into the rotation. He was on a Cy Young-worthy path until his injury and the ONLY way the Yankees survive the ALDS (as the road team no less, which is pretty much assured at this point if you look at the relative schedules of the Rays and Yanks) is for both CC and Andy to be at the top of their games, for Kerry Wood, Robertson, and Logan to be an unshakable bridge to Mo (Joba is pretty much out), and for one other starter to surprise them. Pending tonight’s start – the highest-pressure one of his young career – my money would actually be on Ivan Nova and NOT Javy or AJ. Where does that leave Hughes? No idea frankly.
As for the offense, it still is simply not a big worry for me even with the recent struggles. But I do think Girardi needs to bite the bullet and replace Jeter in the leadoff spot with Gardner. He has an excellent OBP and wreaks havoc on the basepads. Jeter can still bat in the 2-spot, which is where he was for most of his career, but why you wouldn’t have Gardner there already is frankly beyond me.
And even with all that, their prospects are not great. As Krueg points out, they’ve got losing records against the Rangers and Rays, and their starting pitching even wih Andy is weaker than either of those other teams’. Touch to watch? Indeed.

well, i’m a jets fan, so last nite really sucked for me…i just wish they didn’t do all that bullshit talking during the pre-season, and a reality show?, give me a break…they weren’t that good…good, maybe playoffs, but come on, shut up and play…
as for the yankees, well, we’re playing like the old, broken down, bunch of former stars and wannabes that some folks said we would be…sox fans must be really enjoying our angst…IH is right, the schedule does not favor us the rest of the way, and the way we are playing, we may be lucky to play .500 over those remaining games…wasted a good start by cc, our only dependable starter…i’d almost rather not make the playoffs than be humbled right out of the first round…

I have a glimmer of hope with Nova on the mound tonight and being the masocist that I am, I’ll watch the stupid game…
He’s been good and I’m hoping management doesn’t ruin him like Hughes and Joba. It would be nice to pencil him into the rotation after we kick Javy’s sorry-ass back to AAAA and hopefully find a sucker to take AJ. (wishful thinking I know)

Well, Granderson gets a 1 out double in the first and we strand him…I would love to know how many we have left on base and our average with RISP over the last week but looking it up would make me kill myself so let’s just say they are both fucking horrible obviously…

Back to back singles for Cano and Berky…1st and 2nd, no outs. Is it too much to ask for a rally? I seriously cannot remember the last time we had one…

Weak ground out…so just to sum up the first two innings:
1st inning: Strand Granderson on 2nd with 1 out…

The worm has turned??? Ivan Nova = Game 3 starter. Not game 4. Game 3. Seriously. I couldn’t care less that he is so inexperienced that he might get shelled and psychologically damaged for life. AJ Burnett (and to a lesser extent Javy Vazquez) need to be put in their proper places and right now there is no way at all that either of them deserves to start over CC, Andy, or Nova, and possibly not even over Hughes. Yeah there is a lot of baseball to play tonight nd several more Nova-starts to be watched, but this is undoubtedly a year when the Yankees need to catch lightning in a bottle. Nova could be it (Nova is a good name for lightning in a bottle after all).

I agree 1000% IH…the kid has the attitude and confidence for sure. Let’s just hope management doesn’t ruin him before the playoffs. They’ve also had him on a short leash this season so far…they’ve pulled him a few times to let the bullpen ruin his wins. He could have what, 3-4 wins already?

Agreed Krueg. As for 2011, I want Pettitte back. Yes he is old, but he is not ancient and he is unmatched in playoff experience. In terms of schooling guys like Hughes, Nova, whoever on how to bend-but-not-break when you don’t have the stuff of guys like CC and Lee, and how to keep calm in the highest-pressure situations, I don’t know that there is a better vet-pitcher in all of baseball. Not to mention that he has pitched as well this year as he ever has. Rays walk in a run and Jeter, who seems to be exiting his season-long-slump is up with the bases loaded. Come on Captain.

Oh, no doubt it would be great to have Pettitte back but I think he’ll retire. He said something to the effect of he will only play as long as he can contribute and stay healthy. This groin injury thing might make him think about hanging them up. Which is why it would be great if we could win another one and he could ride off into the sunset…

6-4 now. I don’t blame Girardi for keeping Nova in – he has yanked him so fast in his first 3 starts that I wanted to see if he could handle a mini-rally. Well, 4 runs in one inning is more than a mini-rally so it is certainly the right thing to do to yank him now. Having said that, this would be a brutal loss in a long list of brutal losses these past 2 months.

I blame Girardi. His decisions have been horrible the past two games and he’s done it in the past. He manages for the playoffs as if it’s a certainty…

Cano – by far the most consistent offensive weapon on the 2010 Yankees – ties the game with an RBI-double. 1 out, men on 2nd and 3rd. IBB to Berkman and Kearns will be up. A single would give them a 2-run lead. a GDP would give me post-traumatic-sress-disorder. Come on Austin. PLEASE!

had to watch the game on sunchannel [whatever]…rays announcers kept saying a ray was “due” every other batter…whatever that means…they never mentioned that the yankees might be “due” for a win, even if it wasn’t a clean easy win…hopefully this helps them get on a roll…i’ll be at tomorrow night’s game…

The Rays announcers are the worst…you should have heard them about 5 years ago when they really sucked. When you live there YES is blacked out for all the games against the Rays so I was forced to watch/listen on Sun.
