Cash: “He Won’t Be There for Us at the Beginning”

Chien-Ming Wang has a grade 1 hamstring pull, and will be out until late April. That leaves Jeff Karstens and Darryl Rasner fighting for the open spot.

Meanwhile, the beat goes on. The Yanks take on Toronto today, and for the first time put out there presumptive opening day lineup: Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Alex, Giambi, Matsui, Posada, Cano, Minky. Moose throws. Comment here on all the action….

  • I just put a post up about this over at my blog. The gist of it is that although Karstens and Rasner have both pitched well this spring, putting too much into their spring performance is probably wishcasting. BP has both guys pegged for 5+ ERAs.

  • Er, Wang had pretty severe right shoulder issues in the minors, and again in 2005. Not too sure about hammy issues, but I guess now he has those too.

  • So, the Yankees don’t need the fifth spot much during the month of April, correct? But the real question is, how many times do they need the 1-2 spot in the rotation in April?

  • …this doesn’t seem to be much of a problem…if you believe all of the soothsayers and fortune-tellers, wang was going to have a so-so year anyway…

  • My life’s been bland. I’ve basically been doing nothing to speak of, but what can I say? Not that it matters. Eh. Such is life.
