Cellular Reception: Yanks-ChiSox Gamer I

The Yankees (17-19, 2nd AL East, 8.5 games back of Boston) are in the Windy City following a day off after their disappointing weekend in Seattle. It’s currently raining at U.S. Cellular Field Comiskey Park but the radar seems to show that there may be a break coming. Mike Mussina gets the ball for New York tonight. Moose has had two good outings since his stint on the DL, pitching 11 innings in two victories, both over the Rangers, where he gave up a total of three runs. Rookie John Danks (1-4, 4.33 ERA, 28K, 1.30 WHIP in 35 innings) is throwing for the third-place White Sox (18-16), who are facing their first AL East opponent on the season. The 22-year-old lefty has given up six dingers on the season along with a modest 11 walks. Though he picked up his lone victory in his last start, a fine performance against the Twins, he has yet to be truly blown out of a game and has four quality starts out of six visits to the bump. Here’s hoping for the skies to part, for the slumping Yankee offense (three losses in their last four games, 3 runs total in those losses) to get in gear, and for Moose to continue his stingy ways. Line-ups in the extended.

Ron Villone had a FA guarantee if he wasn’t called up by today; he’s been called. To make room, Sean Henn gets sent down, but at least he gets to go to Hooters with Michael Scott.

  • Young, mediocre lefty? I predict a shutout.

  • Sounds about right. The league’s best offense (TM) isn’t hitting. Yawns. Sighs.

  • Urgh, weird lineups.
Posada batting cleanup, when it’s A-Rod who absolutely demolishes lefties? I guess it makes sense, only because there’s no one else to bat third. The bottom of the lineup looks like an offensive black hole. We’ll have to look to score every other inning, and rallies won’t last very long past Matsui.

I wonder what Moose had to say after he saw Melky AND Cairo in there?
In related news, PeteAbe reports Henn has been sent to SWB and Villone called up. FEAR.
