Chasing a Dream, Finding a Miracle

Bob Klapisch is a baseball writer for our local paper here in North Jersey, The Record.  He does some spots on ESPN radio, as well as some columns for ESPN.com.  He is also well known in the local amateur baseball circles as being a pretty decent pitcher.  As the story explains on July 10th while doing something he loves, pitching, Bob was hit in the eye with a batted ball.  I have been hard on Bob, both on this site and off, but after reading this story you have to appreciate the love this man has for the game.

  • Nice piece YF. Though I have been a NY’er for the past several years I haven’t really followed Klapisch’s writing though I do hear him on the radio from time to time. Good story – though followed by some bizarre comments on the discussion thread.

  • A remarkable and humbling story.

  • Good stuff, makes me think too.
It’s amazing how many times I have convinced my self that I actually still have a shot at pitching, just because I’m a tall lefty that can throw the ball really hard. (lefty relievers always have a job, right?)
I like thinking that though, from time to time, as silly as it sounds, it gives me a brief moment to fantasize about the game being my actual life.
I like that, as absurd as it is.
