Cheese Steak Special: Yanks-Phils Gamer I

Okay. So the homers at New York Magazine claim that the griddle-men at Carl’s (Main Concourse, Gate 4, at Yankee Stadium) cook up as mean a cheese steak as anyone on South Street in Philly. We kind of have our doubts, but whatever. Were we in Philly tonight, we’d be looking into Greg Luzinski’s grill. Thankfully, we’re not in Philly. Our Yankees are, however. Let’s hope they can get over two blown games in DC, and put a hurt on the Phils. The Big Unit goes for the Bombers. Will he be facing a future Yankee outfielder in Bobby Abreu? Pat Burrell? We wonder…..

  • Jeets walks. Good at bat.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:13 pm
  • Philly unis, with their very widely spaced pinstripes, stars, and primary coloring, a bit too close to underoos for comfort.
    Giambi singles.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:15 pm
  • A-Rod walks. Myers playing the tough guy, but bases loaded.
Jorge lets him out of it with the pop to third on a very hittable first pitch.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:18 pm
  • And RJ starts with 2 quickies of his own.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:24 pm
  • You can see downtown from the stands at the new Philly ballpark. A good thing? (Joke.)

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:26 pm
  • And the Phils go easy…..
And now Cano bounces out to Myers, 1-3.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:30 pm
  • Bubba looks at a curve for strike 3. Caught. Nice pitch.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:32 pm
  • Rj wrong-footed for the K.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:33 pm
  • Burrell Ks. Lotta Ks in this game so far.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:37 pm
  • And Rowand singles through the left side.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:38 pm
  • Rowand out stealing. Not even close.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:39 pm
  • Yowzah, 3 up and down in the Yankee third, after the Jeter K.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:52 pm
  • Johnny D sliding grab. Nicely done.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:55 pm
  • And Nunez out 1-3.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:56 pm
  • And Myers down 1-3, too. Game scootin’ right along now.

    YF June 19, 2006, 7:57 pm
  • So endeth the shuout. Giambi into the upper reaches. 1-0.

    YF June 19, 2006, 8:00 pm
  • Alex follows with a drilled double pulled into the left field corner.

    YF June 19, 2006, 8:01 pm
  • Jorge walks on the curve.

    YF June 19, 2006, 8:04 pm
  • Well that was an opportunity squandered. Hard to have a Bubba in your lineup in an NL situation.

    YF June 19, 2006, 8:15 pm
  • Alex! Looks at a curve for strike 3 with men on the corners and 2 out, down by 1 in the top of the 5th. Hit there woulda been downright clutch.

    YF June 19, 2006, 8:39 pm
  • Seems like it’s hard to have A Rod in your lineup with runners on base (pulling hair out of head).

    walein June 19, 2006, 8:40 pm
  • ACH. Nunez dives to grab Unit’s line shot up the middle. Cano stranded at second with the tie run. Harrumph.

    YF June 19, 2006, 8:54 pm
  • Not looking like Randy’s night. Has a potential rbi hit taken away. Is given the earned run for Cano’s bumbling of an easier, but similar, play.

    walein June 19, 2006, 8:54 pm
  • Rollins down 6-3.
Let’s not write off RJ and the boys yet!
    Uh oh. Victorino singles.

    YF June 19, 2006, 8:57 pm
  • Utley with the 3-1 FC. Lotta plays to the pitchers tonite.

    YF June 19, 2006, 8:59 pm
  • Check that 1-3 FC.

    YF June 19, 2006, 9:00 pm
  • I don’t think Damon was ever actually not touching the bag.
Maybe GIambi can make it 4 for 4?

    walein June 19, 2006, 9:17 pm
  • A Rod…here’s a clutch situation.

    walein June 19, 2006, 9:19 pm
  • Alex walks to juice ’em. Not unlcutch?
Myers at 120 plus pitches, departs.

    YF June 19, 2006, 9:21 pm
  • Awesome play by Rollins to keep Jorge’s liner on the infield. Run scores. Bases still loaded.

    YF June 19, 2006, 9:26 pm
  • And Cano down 4-3. 3 straded. Opportunity lost. Rollins saves the game, for now at least. This will be Unit’s last inning. And probably Crosby’s as well.

    YF June 19, 2006, 9:29 pm
  • 1-2-3 go the Phils. Excellent night for RJ, who is no-doubt done, and albeit not against a world-beating offensive club without Abreau or the Big Man in the lineup.

  • Michael Kay: “Nothing slows a ballgame down like speed.”

    YF June 19, 2006, 9:54 pm
  • Watching Kyle Farnsworth is torture.

    YF June 19, 2006, 10:01 pm
  • ACCCCCCK. Farns gets the K on the WP, run scores anyway. Looked like Jorge was looking for a high fastball. Instead it’s a slider.
    Farns is a [redacted].

    YF June 19, 2006, 10:04 pm
  • Wait a second. that wasn’t a wild pitch…that was Jorge Posada allowing a ball to go between his legs. On a strike three third out…all you do is keep the ball in front of you.
Farnsworth is worthless (see what I did there?); but that was on Posada.

    walein June 19, 2006, 10:07 pm
  • Giambi saves A Rod from an embarrassing clutch situation.

    walein June 19, 2006, 10:12 pm
  • ‘Michael Kay: “Nothing slows a ballgame down like speed.”
Ahahahahahahaha! That’s the line of the night on either thread, I’m thinking…
