Culled from the Newswire

A few, low profile stories came across the wires earlier today. Didn’t catch the bodies of all these, but the headlines ought to suffice:

  • Well, that’s a completely unreasonable request by the Sox. It clearly states in rule 4.15(a) that the Athletics have a full five minutes to take the field after the umpire calls “Play.”

  • Ha. That last one rings true. In fact, I was in Fenway for the one game in baseball history in which two triple plays were recorded. Of course, it was the Sox who hit into them.

  • That’s incredible – never knew that.

  • If I remember correctly, the first one was hit into by Tom Brunansky, maybe in the second inning. The second was hit into by Jody Reed, in something like the 6th inning. My Dad turned to me right before the second one and we both said “another triple play?” in a joking manner. They came through, though. Both of the TPs were 5-4-3 hard grounders right to the third base bag.
