Daily Affirmations, with Chad Bohling

The NYT reports George Steinbrenner, whose traditional motivitational technique has been a bitchslap on the back page of the Post, has hired Chad Bohling as “mental skills” coach for his Yankees. Chad’s title: Director of Optimal Performance. Orwell would be impressed. Just keep the guy away from Sheff’s locker: “I don’t believe in it. I think it’s for people who are weak-minded. I think there are people who need someone there for them. It’s not for me.”

  • I feel that Chad will be a true asset to the Yankees. If I could say one nice thing about Chad it would be that he always enhances the mental performance skills of the players with which he interacts.
    Word.

I can see his point of view…conflict-oriented, that if he had a problem, he would try to conquer it through force of will. Sheff is entitled to his opinion, of course, but he’s a .298 career hitter. Can he say with a straight face that he wouldn’t listen to someone who could lift his average 20 points? I doubt it.
