Ding Dong the Sox Are Dead: Yanks vs Angels Game 3 Thread

Okay, so the ChiSox are on the horizon, and the Yanks throw the Unit tonight, weather permitting, to try and reach them, or at least get that much closer. He’s been brilliant of late, and A-Rod and Sheff are due to create some major havoc in this series. Consider this your game thread for all of tonight’s action (For BoSox recrimination, please see the previous thread.) Go Yanks!

  • Um, someone remind me again why we let El Duque go.
Two two-out hits off Unit already…

  • Jesus. Not only a three run tater, but maybe the worst call of the year from Sterling… UGH.

  • Anderson. Yankee killer. Always has been.

    YF October 7, 2005, 8:15 pm
  • Moliina. Also a Yankee killer.
Are we feeling the affects of Unit’s 120-plus pitch performance against the Sox last week?

  • Sheff: Kick save and a bute!

  • Nice game, Unit. Way to make Bengie Molina look like Papi. Small warming up as we speak…

    Spidey October 7, 2005, 8:54 pm
  • At this point, wouldn’t it have been a good idea to pinch run for Flaherty? Even if Unit stays in, let him throw to Posada; it’s not like this combo is working out tonight…..

  • Johnson’s just too old for this anymore. He’s not recovering from a long outing like he used to. His high fast ball used to be unhittable because it was like 400 mph. Now in his 40’s, that high fast ball is just slow enough to make contact with but still fast enough that it goes a mile when hit.

    SF October 7, 2005, 11:06 pm
  • Right here. Flash SUCKS. I hate his ass…

    Spidey October 7, 2005, 11:11 pm
  • I wish Cano woulda taken a pitch off Shields. Maybe a little overanxious to do good. *sigh*
But did I not tell you that in a tight, tense game, TGo would serve up a whole bunch of crapola?? Ugh. It says a lot when Al Leiter has to come in and clean up the big pile of poo you left on the field.

    Spidey October 7, 2005, 11:21 pm
  • You DID tell us, and we’re very happy to say you were spot on. Way to go, Spidey!

    SF October 7, 2005, 11:31 pm
  • Ugh. Yeah. Spidey wins the prognostication award for the night. Unfortunately.
But could someone please slip a mickey into Garret Anderson’s gatorade tomorrow?!

  • My *only* consolation is that the Red Sox are out, so if we blow it I can still sneer at the motherfuckers with the “B” caps in NYC.
This sucks. Chacon better come up big tomorrow. Two in a row is doable.

  • Hey SF, instead of being a troll on your own site, why don’t you turn on ESPN2 and watch your team…playing golf.

    tom yf October 8, 2005, 2:31 am
  • Tom, I didn’t notice you reprimanding YF for his gleeful posting during the Sox games, but then again you’re a Yankees fan, so not understanding double standards is in your blood. You are forgiven.

    SF October 8, 2005, 6:28 am
  • Way to make Bengie Molina look like Papi
I didn’t watch any of the Sox games. I know about the pitching, but who hit and who didn’t hit?
The Yanks have had 15 runs in 3 games. The problem is not their hitting. The men-in-scoring-position stat in game two was deceptive, because Figgins grabbed several hot smashes with men on base. Then last night he made a great catch on Sheff when the Yanks could have increased their lead. Sheff hit the ball on the nose but it was an out.
These Angels are very pesky. I wish we had a beautiful day for Chacon to pitch. The rain is the same for both teams, but it’s a lousy way to play such important games.
We’ve got a great rookie in Cano. He sometimes makes some rookie mistakes, but he always makes up for them: 5 rbis and a great play last night. He has the third highest BA on the road in the major leagues in the last 30 years. Ichiro is first.
If Chacon does what he’s been doing for the Yanks, I’ll be happy taking my chances with Moose v Colon, whose ERA against the Yanks this year is around 8 or 9. RJ can redeem himself by coming out of the pen in Anaheim and shutting down the Angels.

    john yf October 8, 2005, 8:02 am
  • tthat’s that , the world has realigned itself with a beautiful 3 game choke from the boston smugpies . couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of posers . Manny showboat and monkey ortiz. at least the embarrasment of Schilling being shelled at fenway was spared . yet I almost wish we could have seen it , just so we could wipe out the bloody sock nonsense . well , one good choke deserves another. god , I hate Boston . mostly the Red Sox fans, and all the loser Boston bartenders who have moved out to Los Angeles in search of the Matt Damon pipe dream.
this series really was a joyous occasion . I don’t even care if the Yanks win or not . As long as a new curse has started for Boston .

  • Gleeful schadenfreude is one thing, but when your team JUST got eliminated in a sweep at home? Then again, as a Sox fan, blindness and denial are in your blood. You are forgiven.

    tom yf October 8, 2005, 2:57 pm
  • These Angels are very pesky
Never were words typed with less veiled condescension. They aren’t just “pesky”. They are good. They have a great slugger (Guerrero), a great catalyst (Figgins), one of the most dependable and pure hitters in the last decade of the game (Anderson), solid starting, and a pretty fantastic bullpen. But you want to call them “pesky”, as if it’s some sort of great compliment. You can’t hide your arrogance, John.

    SF October 8, 2005, 8:29 pm
  • Tom, what’s your point? YF can post about his glee in the Sox losing because the Yankees are still alive, and that’s ok, but I can’t post about the Yankees losing because the Sox are dead? Since when? Makes no sense.

    SF October 8, 2005, 8:32 pm
  • Makes complete sense. The team in the better position has the bragging rights…I don’t really have to explain this to a fan of the former champ bosox do I? :-)

    tom yf October 9, 2005, 1:08 am
  • Truth be told, I’d rather see the Sox win any day than some schmuck National League team, I don’t care how much of a traitor that makes me.

    Anonymous October 9, 2005, 1:10 am
  • Sorry, Tom. Your logic is completely wacky. Schadenfreude is “joy in the suffering of others”. The definition, at last check, doesn’t say anything about whether or not your team still has to be in the playoffs in order for you to be able to experience that joy.

    SF October 9, 2005, 7:12 am
  • What the F is wrong with you SF?
There is nothing wrong with what I said about the Sox or the Angels. Yet you keep lashing out with personal attacks like a bitter old man.
    Great way to attract visitors.

    john yf October 9, 2005, 12:55 pm
  • John, you seem pretty smart. So your choice of the word “pesky” is not without intent, right? It’s like calling a team “scrappy”. It demeans them as something other than “talented”, and rather has an implication of overachievement or going beyond one’s abilities. I don’t mean it personally against you, but I do find your choice of words quite questionable, and this site is, if nothing else, a collection of words. If I had called the White Sox “scrappy” I think people would have (rightfully) taken me to the woodshed.

    SF October 9, 2005, 1:09 pm
  • SF: I know what I meant. The negative interpretation is 100% yours.

    john yf October 9, 2005, 1:24 pm
  • If you didn’t mean it that way, then my reaction is unwarranted. But again, the choice of words is important, and terms like “pesky”, “scrappy”, etc, have always had negative connotations. You must know that, right?

    SF October 9, 2005, 1:41 pm
  • We aren’t talking about the defenition of schadenfreude, we’re talking about how nuts it is for you to engage in it openly when your team got the broom treatment.
Listen, I can understand why you’re so snippy. Maybe once the offseason comes, [deleted due to vulgarity – SF], you’ll be able to laugh something off instead of resorting to straw-man definition arguments.
Meanwhile, tune into The Mystique and Aura Show on FOX tonight!

    tom yf October 9, 2005, 4:02 pm
  • Why is it nuts that I am openly happy when the Yankees lose, particularly when they lose FUGLY. I’ve never been opaque about that in the past, why would I start Friday? My timing was bad? That’s just plain wacky.
I think you and John seem a bit stressed out, but I can understand, considering what’s at stake tonight. You guys are definitely entitled. I’ve been there, too many times.

    SF October 9, 2005, 4:57 pm
  • at last, the world is right again…
…AND the return of mystique & aura!
