Do Not Covet Thy Neighbor’s Pitcher: Yanks-M’s Gamer IV

Felix Hernandez has five starts where the Mariners have given him two or less runs in support. His K/9 in those games is a stratospheric 11, but his ERA is 3.15; if the Mariners are hitting, his K-rate drops but he gets really stingy, stinky stingy in batting average and his ERA falls to about 2.2 in games where the Mariners score three runs or more. It’s on David Phelps to keep the Mariners in check, and hope that the Yankee bats take advantage. Comment away.

  • Phelps has had one horrific start and has otherwise been exemplary. This was a greaat win. Taking 3 of 4 to start the west coast swing is great. Now onto serious competition in the A’s and Angels. I keep waiting for this team to sink like a stone and they keep finding a way. Much fun to follow.
