Dodging Raindrops: Twins-Sox Gamers I/II

Twinbill today, making up yesterday's rainout.  However, precipitation is expected throughout the day today, so we'll see if the Sox can get them in.  Use this thread for all commentary, the early contest starts at 12:35, weather permitting.

We’ll probably get the first game in, it’ll be called after ~7 innings, and then the second one will be rained out. Both teams have off-days tomorrow, though it’s supposed to rain then too. What a shitty way to stall our win streak!

Nick Green puts us up 4-0. Remember when Wakefield used to get no run support? He’s got 4 runs behind him after recording only 3 outs. Nice.
And Ellsbury with a solid single. He and the hitting coach have obviously been working on his mechanics.

Or, he remembered that he’s not a homerun hitter and has stopped trying to pull every single pitch. Either way, I like the results this past few games.

He’s not stepping with his front foot super early anymore, so he’s not getting off-balance. That was what his problem looked like last week.
Wakefield hits a batter’s baggy shirt, two on now with two outs. Oh and look, the Twins’ best player is up.

Hahaha Lockland!
Drew, Georgian God of Doubles. And then Bay robbed of a double by a fantastic play by Cuddyer.

looks like CC might need that heating pad on the ‘ol belly again in NY. Things not going well.

JD Drew: “Rocco is on the DL? That’s cool, I’ll just whip out my big-boy pants today.”

Anybody know how the rain looks at the moment? I was really looking forward to a whole day at the office being distracted by baseball.

It’s raining a little bit and looks like it’s going to get worse, RBF. Tonight’s game will probably be delayed, if not cancelled.
Ellsbury with another hit, though he’s thrown out stealing.

wakefield strikes out gomez on a 73 MPH “fastball” that he can’t catch up to.
CC giving away runs like they were kittens.

Papi misses his first homer by a foot.
I don’t know why, but that kittens comment has me laughing really hard Rod.

wrko radio guy’s are saying there are close to 10,000 empty seats at yankee stadium today. can that even be?

Damn. That means I might start having to actually work. After this game of course.

Okay let’s put in the 2nd string and save some of these runs for tonight.
You’re a dirty man, rod.

looks like the yanks ducked having the sox tee off on wang this weekend, as they have sent him back to florida for “extended spring training”. if i remember correctly, igawa had a lights out spring. it would be nice to get to see him this weekend.

we wished that once, and Igawa threw a gem, Rod. Let’s hold off on hoping to see a guy we don’t see that often. I’ll take my chances with Joba and Pettitte, whom they’ve seen a few more times.

And, I was really hoping to the Red Sox were going to get to pound Crispy Creme this weekend.

i hear ya brad. it’s just an upside down world when the sox are hoping to face CC, wang, and joba in a 3 game set.

I saw it, I just have a hard time believing Jeter “crushed” a ball to CF in the April rain. I mean, it’s not like the guy has huge power.

sam- didn’t see jeters HR, but it’s a shame and unfair that many folks are gonna look at most homers in yankee stadium as cheese no matter how well they were struck. 25 HR’s in 5 games will do that. would a humidor make any difference at sea level?

Brad – Jeter has shown some pretty decent power over the years at times. Its not always there but Ive seen him get a hold of a few that were some serious shots.
Rod – Im gonna wait before I crown this place as a launching pad. We are still in the first homestand ever. The game yesterday I went the ball was barely carrying at all. It may be a different thing all together at night when they play more than half of their home games.

Nick Green destroyed a ball over the monster today, so I think it’s safe to say that anyone can crush a ball at some point or another.

Sorry to toot my own horn, but:

I TOTALLY nailed the cancelled-after-7+ prediction.

Only in Boston can the local sports network kill three hours between Red Sox games with Red Sox filler content, like Wake playing mini golf against Kotteras during spring training, a speacial half hour on Nomar, and other asssorted random Red Sox content, while TWO other professional Boston sports teams are playing in their post-seasons.

Rain delay to start, no clue if it will go tonight (apparently it will be an afternoon game tomorrow if it has to be postponed).

The rain is supposed to get lighter as the night goes on, so hopefully we’ll get some game in.
So does Wakefield get a Complete Game for pitching all 7 innings today?

Hey look, the game is starting?
I didn’t realize we’re playing against Liriano. I don’t like this one bit.

I didn’t see Penny’s last two starts, so I’m excited to see him pitch tonight. So far his fastball and curveball precision look good.

I really like the movement that Penny’s pitches have.
Line drive double play ends the inning!

That ball was RIPPED by Morneau, and now Kubel almost duplicates. Penny is not fooling them this time around the lineup. Get someone up, Tito, nobody was used in the afternoon game…

It honestly looks like the Sox are wearing St. Patty’s Day uniforms (from Spring Training?!) for Earth Day just because they are green – looks like a huge shamrock on the sleeve, I just noticed.
Fashion police!!!

Egads, Delmon Young just crushed one that Ellsbury makes a heckuva run to get. I think best-case is Penny gets through the bottom of the lineup, maybe goes 5, possibly into the sixth, then turns it over to the bullpen. He’s not fooling them.

Ok, through 3.5. A little damage, but seems like it could have been worse (or better, NIck Green?). Penny’s curve looks really good, it’s his fastball which is coming hard, but very flat, no movement it doesn’t seem.

Green doubles, pushing Bailey to third. Nobody out. Gardenhire needs to rescue Liriano at some point. Or is he taking one for the team? Seems foolish considering Liriano’s arm issues.

going into the yankees series tied with them at one back. I know it’s early but this is getting fun.

I take full responsibility for this win: Liriano is on my fantasy team. The minute I bench him he’ll throw a few no-hitters. FML.
