And Markakis rocks the first pitch he see’s from sorry-ass Pettitte into the bullpen…0-1. game over. You suck Pettitte. Just retire already.

Speaking of this scrub…walks the bases loaded for….Cano. Crap. he sucks with 2 outs AND with the bases loaded. I expect him to roll over a pitch to the Roberts for the ground out…

ESPN: “Steve McNair had about double the legal limit of alcohol when he was murdered.” WTF does that mean? Double the legal limit of what? Drive the bed to Taco Bell? Get shot? Cheat on his wife? If he was more sober he could have legally driven away from the bullets? Gah. It would be so funny if only it wasn’t so unfunny.

It’s the whole conservative mindset of this country…i.e. if he wasn’t such a sinner (alcohol and adultery) he’d still be alive. Disgusting.

AG, I’ll give you the thumbs-up you deserve for the Douglas Adams reference!
These 8:00 starts sure do suck. I mean they’re not as bad as the west coast games, but geez, let’s have some Red Sox baseball already!

Ellsbury back leading off, and immediately whiffs. Leadoff spot a black hole for the Sox it seems.

Pedroia out on a comebacker. 2 down quickly. I have a feeling I won’t be paying much attention to this game, other than to see how Smoltz is doing.

Papi! Clubbed to center, misses a homer by a foot. Youk scores. 1-0 Sox, bad luck that it isn’t 2-0.

Cano swings at the first pitch and promptly pops out to LF…great job, not. He has so much ability but just cannot put it together yet…aggravating.

I gotta say that while I’d rather the Yanks just be winning, I really love the slow game-long tension-building of a pitchers’ duel.

Holy shit, great grab with the throwing hand by Millwood. Glad he’s not hurt there.

I am the complete opposite IH…give me HR’s and high scoring affairs any day. I am falling asleep watching this…hopefully someone in pinstripes does something with a bat soon???

But the great thing with these games is that when the tie-breaking run finally comes, it’s just huge – massive tension-release after 7-8 innings of gradually ratcheting-up of tension. And the defense has been pretty solid. And we’re into the O’s bullpen…let’s see what we can do here. Wouldn’t object to Jorge pinch-hitting for Molina when his spot comes up 3rd this inning…

Yeah…it is fun when they finally break through, you’re right…of course the O’s could just as easily the longer Pettitte stays in…

Yanks with a harmless 1-2-3. I love the shot of Mo just chilling in the pen while Hughes is in the back throwing a ball to himself..

Watching both games at once tonight, with my first night of HD.
Best night Smoltz has had, even though he’s never looked so old before……
Getting YES via MLB-EE – another first.
Kinda weird – they really do have something called “Yankeeography”?
Gotta get used to it – it seems excessively precious just now!

This is fun…. I get to be in the Sox gamer but also to enjoy Kreug’s hysteria. These joint gamers are great.

AP gave us a good game, but maybe hung in there just a little too long. That said, the Yanks have not hit today, and they have been shutdown, if not for good (and lucky) pitching..

I thought pettitte would be in batter-to-batter, but no. And now the Yanks are in a hole. That was one batter too many – and we all saw it coming before it did. Let’s see what coke has in the tank.

Lowell’s hip must feel OK to try and score on that play – and be out by that much.
Oh well

Shit, Lowell tries to score from first and is gunned down. GREAT tag by Salty. Hopefully Lowell isn’t hurting after that.

Teixiera with a good, huge heads up play to throw out the runner at home. Not sure if he could’ve gotten the double play, but I’ll take this any day..

TEX WITH THE GREAT PLAY!!!! SCOOPS THE GROUNDER AND GUNS IT HOME WHERE JOSE TAGS HIM FOR THE 2ND OUT!!!! YEEESSSSSS!!!!
COME ON PHIL…ONE MORE!!!!

That was just awesome. I don’t give a crap what anyone says about Tex as an average fielder – he turns in great play after great play. That was huge. And nice job by Molina.
And the tension builds…

Two great plays at the plate. Awesome. How can you not prefer this over launch-fests!?!?!

Did not bringing Posada save a run? Molina is a better defender, of course.
Wow, a wild pitch and a throw out at home plate. I have the sound off, but it seems like the runner missed the plate, and was tagged out by Coke. Yanks got out of that one luckily..

Roberts looked like he beat the throw, but was a little too slick in trying to get around the tag and missed the plate, maybe.
No sound though, so someone else might be able to give a better description..
The Yanks probably don’t deserve what happen, but will certainly take it! Go Yanks, win this thing!

I love Coke coming in head first. And Roberts ALMOST snuck the trailing foot across the plate but not quite.
Time for Tex or ARod to launch one.

Ya, looking at the replay again, it’s clear he missed it – the initial angles wasn’t as good. I’m not paying attention 100%, because I’m actually on a conference call right now! ;) People heard me fist pumping over the phone!

Have not gotten a hit since the 2nd…also put in Flusher for defense???? Are you serious???
Coke nails Jones…1st with no outs. GAME.

Yanks keep going out with a freaking whimper. And FAST. On the (second) play at home, Roberts missed with his hand and he was tagged on the thigh barely before his foot slid across. I don’t know if you could say they don’t deserve it. I mean, their bats don’t, but their pitching and defense has been great. And yeah, keeping Molina (against my urging) probably helped save one or both those runs.
And freaking Coke hits the leadoff man. That right after a wild pitch ended the last inning. Keep your head in the game meat!

The umps blew a call, but really shouldn’t have gave them a chance to. Potential winning run at first.

Melky barely reaches it. I’d really rather see Melky in right and Gardner in center.
And here comes Ace.

Lined one up the middle, and barely stayed up to be caught by Melky. I thought it was a single off the bat, but good read by Melky staying on it.

And Jones took second. That’s what happens when you hit the leadoff man. Might’ve got him with a better throw.

IBB to Markakis. Ace almost threw the ball away on the first pitch-out. That would have been smooth. Here we go with 2 on and the rookie phenom up…

Tension ratchets up…this one goes to Eee-leven. And Ace induces the weak pop-up which for some reason looked like a jacked HR to me off the bat. Walk-off time – come on! Melky is our walk-off master.

It’s going to have to be Melky. It is foretold.
Also – Smoltz is averaging about 90 on his fastball. Is that normal for him at this stage of his career?
I’ll say that Smoltz was a nice pickup for Boston. He sure would look good going for the Yankees tomorrow instead of Sergio Mitre. Kudos to Theo on that one.

Wow, three straight 2-1 wins. That’s kind of cool, although it does depress the Pythag a bit.

Oh f*ck you Matsui. I was just telling a YF friend of mine today that you were done, and would be traded at the deadline.
How many goddamn walk-offs is that?

Three 2-1 victories in a row. Pettitte was superb, the defense by Tex, Molina, Coke, and Melky was excellent, and Matsui finally puts us all out of our misery. Let’s go Rangers.

Sorry for the mini-Rangers-root their SFs. Forgot for a moment that this is a shared gamer thread.
I’ll try not to be brought immediately back to earth by the thought of Mitre starting tomorrow…
Fun thread Lar, Krueg, et al…

IH, ya have to be who ya are……its OK
People are too sensitive about that IMHO.
The great thing about YFSF is that it ISN’T NYYfans……
And as I say this, TX ties it up.

Smoltz looks like he’s pitching a good game, results only. I think I’ll take this start any day, up to now anyhow.
(Of course, if he did that against O’s, it would still be a tied game.. Yanks really got to start hitting again..)

Someone help Ken Singleton accept baldness and DUMP that hideous tupee. Hideous.

I would’ve also loved it if I could’ve watched the game with sound. This was quite a game, haha..

My bads if I reverse jinxed, though not intentional. Murphy really went down and got that one though..

Ah well, Smoltz was doing well until the 5th inning. Texas does have a dynamite offense in Arlington.

Smoltz looks like he’s pitching a good game, results only. I think I’ll take this start any day, up to now anyhow.
Parr for the course by Smolt(z)?
And bad wordplay brings bad karma – 5-2 TX.
Shit.

Well, when I said that it was 2 ER, 5 IP, and I just looked up his line. Ya, totally my bads.

I’m happy to root against whoever is ahead of us in the standings, but usually wouldn’t do it on their gamethread.
Anyway, no matter what happens in Arlington the rest of the night, Boston sends Beckett to the mound tomorrow and we send….Sergio Mitre…

First place will be sweet but short yet again IH…if only the Yankees could win a game against Boston.

I can tell who’s up even without my glasses……..they show the ball going into the crowd only in foul ground for the RS.
