    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:08 pm
  • Come on Pettitte…time for a quality start? Please???

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:09 pm
  • Robert’s hits one to the warning track…Damon actually caught it, which was cool.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:10 pm
  • And Markakis rocks the first pitch he see’s from sorry-ass Pettitte into the bullpen…0-1. game over. You suck Pettitte. Just retire already.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:11 pm
  • Not as lazy as my idea… i was going to do one for the whole week.
Plus, I was going to trump Paul with my newest statistical breakdown: the answer is 42.

    attackgerbil July 20, 2009, 7:13 pm
  • Andy only gave up 1 run in the 1st…amazing.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:15 pm
  • You guys are slacking AG… ;)

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:17 pm
  • Alright…we need about 10 runs with Pettitte pitching….let’s go boys!!! BRING IT CAPTAIN CLUTCH!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:18 pm
  • Markakis is a monster…wish we had him. Couple years?

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:20 pm
  • We’re in business…Tex follows up Damon’s single with one of his own! 1st and 3rd with 1 out for ARod!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:22 pm
  • Now is the dog days of our dissed-content.

    attackgerbil July 20, 2009, 7:25 pm
  • K.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:25 pm
  • Making this scrub throw a lot of pitches though…that’s good. Godzilla with a chance for a RBI…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:26 pm
  • Speaking of this scrub…walks the bases loaded for….Cano. Crap. he sucks with 2 outs AND with the bases loaded. I expect him to roll over a pitch to the Roberts for the ground out…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:28 pm
  • FULL COUNT!!! No where to put him…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:30 pm
  • Cano swings at ball four…JUST got a piece. Let’s try again.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:30 pm
  • Fouls off another pitch…that one was a strike.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:31 pm
  • …and again…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:31 pm
  • 35 pitches for the scrub so far…nice.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:32 pm
  • Cano flies out to LF…big surprise. You suck Cano.
Pettitte back to the mound to give up some more runs…I can’t even watch.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:33 pm
  • ESPN: “Steve McNair had about double the legal limit of alcohol when he was murdered.” WTF does that mean? Double the legal limit of what? Drive the bed to Taco Bell? Get shot? Cheat on his wife? If he was more sober he could have legally driven away from the bullets? Gah. It would be so funny if only it wasn’t so unfunny.

    attackgerbil July 20, 2009, 7:33 pm
  • 1-2-3 for Andy…that’s more like it!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:42 pm
  • Hinskie is a BEAST!!!! 1-1!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:42 pm
  • It’s the whole conservative mindset of this country…i.e. if he wasn’t such a sinner (alcohol and adultery) he’d still be alive. Disgusting.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:44 pm
  • AG, I’ll give you the thumbs-up you deserve for the Douglas Adams reference!
These 8:00 starts sure do suck. I mean they’re not as bad as the west coast games, but geez, let’s have some Red Sox baseball already!

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 7:45 pm
  • Let’s not Ath…let’s not. :)

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:49 pm
  • Huff drops a pop fly near the Yankee bullpen…hopefully that comes back to bite them! 2 outs with Jeter on 1st…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:50 pm
  • Nope. BS called 3rd strike that was both low AND outside…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:50 pm
  • Pettitte with the wild pitch…2nd and no outs. About to give the lead right back…Pettitte-style.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:57 pm
  • can’t even strike out the #9 hitter…pathetic.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:59 pm
  • Izturis fouls off every weak-ass Pettitte pitch…4 in a row so far.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 7:59 pm
  • Finally…K. Christ.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:00 pm
  • Ellsbury back leading off, and immediately whiffs. Leadoff spot a black hole for the Sox it seems.

    SF July 20, 2009, 8:09 pm
  • 3-4-5 hitters go down with a whimper to the scrub…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:11 pm
  • Pedroia out on a comebacker. 2 down quickly. I have a feeling I won’t be paying much attention to this game, other than to see how Smoltz is doing.

    SF July 20, 2009, 8:11 pm
  • Youk singles as Murphy misreads the ball off the bat.

    SF July 20, 2009, 8:12 pm
  • Papi! Clubbed to center, misses a homer by a foot. Youk scores. 1-0 Sox, bad luck that it isn’t 2-0.

    SF July 20, 2009, 8:14 pm
  • Actually, make that 1/2 a foot, at most. BARELY not a homer. Dang.

    SF July 20, 2009, 8:15 pm
  • Bay lines to short. Average plummeting. Bad luck BABIP there, though.

    SF July 20, 2009, 8:15 pm
  • Jesus, missed a homer by a foot.

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 8:16 pm
  • Cano swings at the first pitch and promptly pops out to LF…great job, not. He has so much ability but just cannot put it together yet…aggravating.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:18 pm
  • Hinskie K’s…this game sucks.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:19 pm
  • 1st and 3rd with 1 out…Pettitte about to blow this game wide open with his sh-t pitching per usual.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:30 pm
  • K for Andy…ONE MORE OUT MAN!!!! COME ON!!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:32 pm
  • 3 outs…gets Roberts to pop out to Melky. Thank science.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:33 pm
  • I am so sick and tired of watching these no name scrub pitchers just mow us down…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:41 pm
  • Big DP keeps it 1-1…BO-RING!!!! TIME TO SCORE SOME RUNS!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:46 pm
  • Smoltz looking good.

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 8:46 pm
  • I gotta say that while I’d rather the Yanks just be winning, I really love the slow game-long tension-building of a pitchers’ duel.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 8:48 pm
  • This guy is just making us look foolish…this is ridiculous????

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:51 pm
  • Holy shit, great grab with the throwing hand by Millwood. Glad he’s not hurt there.

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 8:54 pm
  • Yanks not even working the count. Bah.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 8:56 pm
  • AP DP. Nice.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 8:57 pm
  • I am the complete opposite IH…give me HR’s and high scoring affairs any day. I am falling asleep watching this…hopefully someone in pinstripes does something with a bat soon???

    krueg July 20, 2009, 8:58 pm
  • But the great thing with these games is that when the tie-breaking run finally comes, it’s just huge – massive tension-release after 7-8 innings of gradually ratcheting-up of tension. And the defense has been pretty solid. And we’re into the O’s bullpen…let’s see what we can do here. Wouldn’t object to Jorge pinch-hitting for Molina when his spot comes up 3rd this inning…

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:02 pm
  • I don’t mind it either way as long as the Yanks win.. =)

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:03 pm
  • Yeah…it is fun when they finally break through, you’re right…of course the O’s could just as easily the longer Pettitte stays in…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:03 pm
  • Good point Lar…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:03 pm

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:04 pm
  • Another brilliant 1-2-3 innings for the Bombers…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:05 pm
  • Yanks with a harmless 1-2-3. I love the shot of Mo just chilling in the pen while Hughes is in the back throwing a ball to himself..

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:06 pm
  • Pettitte still in…he is going to blow it.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:07 pm
  • Watching both games at once tonight, with my first night of HD.
Best night Smoltz has had, even though he’s never looked so old before……
Getting YES via MLB-EE – another first.
Kinda weird – they really do have something called “Yankeeography”?
Gotta get used to it – it seems excessively precious just now!

    dabize July 20, 2009, 9:09 pm
  • Get pettitte out

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:10 pm
  • This is fun…. I get to be in the Sox gamer but also to enjoy Kreug’s hysteria. These joint gamers are great.

    rootbeerfloat July 20, 2009, 9:11 pm
  • If kreug wasn’t here, somebody would have to impersonate him.

    dabize July 20, 2009, 9:13 pm
  • AP gave us a good game, but maybe hung in there just a little too long. That said, the Yanks have not hit today, and they have been shutdown, if not for good (and lucky) pitching..

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:13 pm
  • I thought pettitte would be in batter-to-batter, but no. And now the Yanks are in a hole. That was one batter too many – and we all saw it coming before it did. Let’s see what coke has in the tank.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:14 pm
  • …and he did. 2nd and 3rd now with 2 outs. Coke to try and get Markakis.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:14 pm
  • Lowell’s hip must feel OK to try and score on that play – and be out by that much.
    Oh well

    dabize July 20, 2009, 9:14 pm
  • Shit, Lowell tries to score from first and is gunned down. GREAT tag by Salty. Hopefully Lowell isn’t hurting after that.

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 9:15 pm
  • Teixiera with a good, huge heads up play to throw out the runner at home. Not sure if he could’ve gotten the double play, but I’ll take this any day..

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:15 pm

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:15 pm
  • That was just awesome. I don’t give a crap what anyone says about Tex as an average fielder – he turns in great play after great play. That was huge. And nice job by Molina.
    And the tension builds…

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:15 pm

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:16 pm
  • WHAT A PLAY AGAIN!!!! Someone else describe it…I’m too mentally exhausted and I think the neighbors heard me yelling…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:17 pm
  • Two great plays at the plate. Awesome. How can you not prefer this over launch-fests!?!?!

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:17 pm
  • Woah, did Roberts try to steal home on a passed ball? Goddamnit!

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 9:17 pm
  • Did not bringing Posada save a run? Molina is a better defender, of course.
Wow, a wild pitch and a throw out at home plate. I have the sound off, but it seems like the runner missed the plate, and was tagged out by Coke. Yanks got out of that one luckily..

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:17 pm
  • It is pretty sweet IH…NOW SCORE SOME F-CKING RUNS BOYS!!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:18 pm
  • Top of the order….CAPTAIN CLUTCH TIME!!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:19 pm
  • 1 out.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:19 pm
  • Roberts looked like he beat the throw, but was a little too slick in trying to get around the tag and missed the plate, maybe.
No sound though, so someone else might be able to give a better description..
The Yanks probably don’t deserve what happen, but will certainly take it! Go Yanks, win this thing!

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:19 pm
  • I love Coke coming in head first. And Roberts ALMOST snuck the trailing foot across the plate but not quite.
Time for Tex or ARod to launch one.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:19 pm
  • He absolutely missed the plate Lar…and Coke had his glove right on the plate if he would have slide in straight…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:20 pm
  • Someone? Anyone? A hit please? HELLO McFLY???
2 outs. Pathetic. Nice job Damon you hack.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:21 pm
  • Ya, looking at the replay again, it’s clear he missed it – the initial angles wasn’t as good. I’m not paying attention 100%, because I’m actually on a conference call right now! ;) People heard me fist pumping over the phone!

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:21 pm
  • Just swinging at every sh-t pitch all game long…this SUCKS!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:22 pm
  • Let’s go Teixiera.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:22 pm
  • …back to the dugout maybe.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:22 pm
  • Teixiera popped a 2-0 pitch. Sudden death here we go.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:23 pm
  • Have not gotten a hit since the 2nd…also put in Flusher for defense???? Are you serious???
Coke nails Jones…1st with no outs. GAME.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:24 pm
  • Yanks keep going out with a freaking whimper. And FAST. On the (second) play at home, Roberts missed with his hand and he was tagged on the thigh barely before his foot slid across. I don’t know if you could say they don’t deserve it. I mean, their bats don’t, but their pitching and defense has been great. And yeah, keeping Molina (against my urging) probably helped save one or both those runs.
And freaking Coke hits the leadoff man. That right after a wild pitch ended the last inning. Keep your head in the game meat!

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:25 pm
  • The umps blew a call, but really shouldn’t have gave them a chance to. Potential winning run at first.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:26 pm
  • Great shoestring catch by Melky!!! whew. DP still on…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:27 pm
  • Melky barely reaches it. I’d really rather see Melky in right and Gardner in center.
    And here comes Ace.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:28 pm
  • Coke out…ACE IN!!!! ACE IS THE TRUTH!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:28 pm
  • Lined one up the middle, and barely stayed up to be caught by Melky. I thought it was a single off the bat, but good read by Melky staying on it.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:28 pm
  • Mora is dangerous. Base stolen. Rare bad toss by Molina. Good save by cano.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:31 pm
  • stolen base…not good. winning run on 2nd. At least it wasn’t HIp HIp behind the plate chucking it into CF again…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:32 pm
  • Since when do the Rangers have a great defense?

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 9:32 pm
  • And Jones took second. That’s what happens when you hit the leadoff man. Might’ve got him with a better throw.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:32 pm
  • That wasn’t a bad throw…that was a close play! Molina has a cannon.
    2 outs. LET’S GO ACE!!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:32 pm
  • Mora pops out, and two outs, and Jones on 2nd.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:33 pm
  • They’re going to walk Scott to get to the rookie Reimold with two outs.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:34 pm
  • IBB to Markakis. Ace almost threw the ball away on the first pitch-out. That would have been smooth. Here we go with 2 on and the rookie phenom up…

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:34 pm
  • Darn these are close pitches. Sorry – confused Scott for Markakis there.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:36 pm

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:37 pm
  • I admit I was scared seeing that ball off the bat. But Ace do get out of this one.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:38 pm
  • Tension ratchets up…this one goes to Eee-leven. And Ace induces the weak pop-up which for some reason looked like a jacked HR to me off the bat. Walk-off time – come on! Melky is our walk-off master.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:38 pm
  • It’s going to have to be Melky. It is foretold.
Also – Smoltz is averaging about 90 on his fastball. Is that normal for him at this stage of his career?
I’ll say that Smoltz was a nice pickup for Boston. He sure would look good going for the Yankees tomorrow instead of Sergio Mitre. Kudos to Theo on that one.

    AndrewYF July 20, 2009, 9:39 pm
  • IH – he looked like he got all of that one, but thankfully not.. haha..

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:40 pm
  • ARod does nothing.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:42 pm
  • Matsui ends it!! YESSSS! Domo arigato Godzilla!! Great game.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:43 pm
  • MAT EFFING SUI!!!!!!!!

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:43 pm
  • MATSUI!!!!!

    AndrewYF July 20, 2009, 9:43 pm

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:43 pm
  • Wow, three straight 2-1 wins. That’s kind of cool, although it does depress the Pythag a bit.

    AndrewYF July 20, 2009, 9:44 pm
  • Oh f*ck you Matsui. I was just telling a YF friend of mine today that you were done, and would be traded at the deadline.
How many goddamn walk-offs is that?

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 9:44 pm
  • Bah.
NYYs win with a Matsui walkoff
    So what else is new?

    dabize July 20, 2009, 9:44 pm
  • Yanks win on two solo HRs again. This one was a no-doubter though.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:45 pm
  • Matsui eats pie, loves it. Hahaha.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:46 pm
9th walkoff of the season Ath…

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:46 pm
  • Three 2-1 victories in a row. Pettitte was superb, the defense by Tex, Molina, Coke, and Melky was excellent, and Matsui finally puts us all out of our misery. Let’s go Rangers.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:47 pm
  • Sorry for the mini-Rangers-root their SFs. Forgot for a moment that this is a shared gamer thread.
I’ll try not to be brought immediately back to earth by the thought of Mitre starting tomorrow…
Fun thread Lar, Krueg, et al…

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:50 pm
  • Yep, maybe even krueg will admit it was a fun game! =)

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:53 pm
  • They openly root against us IH…don’t apologize!!!

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:53 pm
  • SUPER fun game…since we won. If we had lost, totally different story.

    krueg July 20, 2009, 9:54 pm
  • IH, ya have to be who ya are……its OK
People are too sensitive about that IMHO.
The great thing about YFSF is that it ISN’T NYYfans……
And as I say this, TX ties it up.

    dabize July 20, 2009, 9:55 pm
  • ….and the wheels start to come off of the Smoltzmobile…..

    dabize July 20, 2009, 9:56 pm
  • Wow Michael Young really turned on that homer. 2-2.

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 9:56 pm
  • Smoltz looks like he’s pitching a good game, results only. I think I’ll take this start any day, up to now anyhow.
(Of course, if he did that against O’s, it would still be a tied game.. Yanks really got to start hitting again..)

    Lar July 20, 2009, 9:57 pm
  • Walk off by Matsui!!!
Awesome win some great defense, pitching, and timely hitting…

    sam-YF July 20, 2009, 9:58 pm
  • Someone help Ken Singleton accept baldness and DUMP that hideous tupee. Hideous.

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 9:59 pm
  • I would’ve also loved it if I could’ve watched the game with sound. This was quite a game, haha..

    Lar July 20, 2009, 10:03 pm
  • My bads if I reverse jinxed, though not intentional. Murphy really went down and got that one though..

    Lar July 20, 2009, 10:04 pm
  • Ah well, Smoltz was doing well until the 5th inning. Texas does have a dynamite offense in Arlington.

    AndrewYF July 20, 2009, 10:04 pm
  • Smoltz looks like he’s pitching a good game, results only. I think I’ll take this start any day, up to now anyhow.
Parr for the course by Smolt(z)?
And bad wordplay brings bad karma – 5-2 TX.

    dabize July 20, 2009, 10:04 pm
  • Well, when I said that it was 2 ER, 5 IP, and I just looked up his line. Ya, totally my bads.

    Lar July 20, 2009, 10:05 pm
  • Goddamnit, Murphy makes it 5-2. Smoltz was phenomenal before this inning.

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 10:05 pm
  • Chr*st, another one?

    dabize July 20, 2009, 10:06 pm
  • Okay, he’s done. Time for the bullpen White Flag, Tony.

    AndrewYF July 20, 2009, 10:06 pm
  • Now Salty. 6-2.

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 10:07 pm
  • I’m happy to root against whoever is ahead of us in the standings, but usually wouldn’t do it on their gamethread.
Anyway, no matter what happens in Arlington the rest of the night, Boston sends Beckett to the mound tomorrow and we send….Sergio Mitre…

    IronHorse July 20, 2009, 10:08 pm
  • This one is over. We’ve hit out allotment of two runs for the night.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 20, 2009, 10:10 pm
  • First place will be sweet but short yet again IH…if only the Yankees could win a game against Boston.

    AndrewYF July 20, 2009, 10:10 pm
  • Probably should have yanked Smoltz after the Hamilton double. I’m so smart in hindsight.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 20, 2009, 10:12 pm
  • I can tell who’s up even without my glasses……..they show the ball going into the crowd only in foul ground for the RS.

    dabize July 20, 2009, 10:20 pm
  • Another great defensive play by Texas. This is getting annoying as hell.

    Atheose July 20, 2009, 10:38 pm
