Double Nickle: Yanks-Twins Gamer II

Game 55 on the season finds the Yankees with an even record and winners of seven of their last ten as they head into their second trimester. Chien-Ming Wang is on the mound for New York against the Twins today. You have to look all the way back to May 2nd, five starts ago, for the last victory he recorded. He is coming off what at a glance look like rough outings against Seattle and the Mets, though he was probably left on the mound a bit too long in each case and the Yankees did stage a thrilling comeback to win the Mariners game. Boof Bonser is on the Bump for the Twins. He lost both his starts against the Yanks last season and has been getting crushed over his last five starts.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 10:15 pm

  • Tonight is like old times – just us Mods around, game threads a window into our sad, social life-less souls. Feels kinda nice for a change, right?
Though I certainly much prefer the chatter with the regulars. Where is everyone?!

    SF May 31, 2008, 10:22 pm
  • Damon was bunting, but then put on the hit and run; Damon fouled it off.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 10:23 pm
  • Yeah, it’s graphically pretty nice, and certainly intuitive. Kudos to the Globe for that one.

    SF May 31, 2008, 10:23 pm
  • > Where is everyone?!
At the party to which we weren’t invited.
Another hit and run attempt, another foul trickler.

  • Jeter up with two outs.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 10:25 pm
  • I’m here, mostly lurking. Last Little League game of the year wore me out and not the kids so chaos reigns. I’m just coming up to speed on what happened in both games but I like reading your comments though.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 10:32 pm

    YF May 31, 2008, 10:34 pm
  • Farnsworth gets the outside corner to put Morneau in an 0-2 hole. Giambi fields a ground ball bullet and Farns covers the bag to record the second out.

  • An out!

    YF May 31, 2008, 10:35 pm

  • Farnsy!
Okay. A run and then Mo and we all watch SNL!
That Globe graphic package on Manny’s HRs is awesome. Wish there was a way to “show all” however, instead of just looking at each stadium in isolation. Also, would love to see the total hr’s by count. Great fun though. Looks great. When you change the park and the balls fly out….beautiful. Paging Kottke!

    YF May 31, 2008, 10:39 pm
  • Reyes in for the Twins. Abreu grounds out to Punto on the first pitch.
First pitch to ARod is called a strike. Looked bad from where I was sitting. Now ARod chases low. Then a ball. The 1-2 is low.

    YF May 31, 2008, 10:46 pm
  • I try so hard to “love” ARod…he makes it soooo hard sometimes.

    krueg May 31, 2008, 10:48 pm
  • Ohlendorf. I get that same feeling, YF.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 10:48 pm
  • Ohlendorf is usually solid for one inning…

    krueg May 31, 2008, 10:49 pm
  • Kubel down swinging. Now Delmon Young looks like it’s the first time he ever touched a bat.
and he looks worse on the next swing.

  • um…that sucked.

    krueg May 31, 2008, 10:53 pm
  • So.. close. Thought it was done. Typed “good night” as soon as it left the bat. Instead, it bounces off the wall, missing a home rin but a few feet. It’s a triple.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 10:53 pm
  • Punto IBBd to bring up Gomez.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 10:54 pm

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 11:00 pm
  • What was that call to Cano on the first pitch? Looked high and away. But it’s called a strike. Cano then grounds out 6-3. Cano sometimes really doesn’t look like he is running hard.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 11:01 pm
  • Molina swings through the first pitch for strike one, then takes low. The next pitch is lifted to right, caught by Cuddyer to end the top of the 11th. That was quick.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2008, 11:02 pm
  • That went fast. Heart of the TC order coming up.

    YF May 31, 2008, 11:02 pm

  • Three down. Game over. I turn it over to David St. Hubbins.
“Well, I don’t really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It’s like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how – what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what’s stopping it, and what’s behind what’s stopping it? So, what’s the end, you know, is my question to you.”

  • Strike taken by Lamb. The 0-1 is in on the hands; he turns away from it and goes around to far for strike two. The 0-2 is called outside. Looked good. Lamb actually thought he was struck out. Now a weak grounder to Cano, who throws to Betemit for the second out.
BETEMIT!!! Snags a line drive on the first pitch to Punto to end the game.
    Great win.

  • Hahaha… Hilarious!!! Abreu is doing the post game interview and Cano dumps a cup of ice water on his neck. Very Funny reaction by Abreu. Somehow, he kept from swearing… barely.
