Good anecdote today on YES, with Mike Kay relating a comment by Montreal GM Omar Minaya about whether Javier Vazquez could handle the pressure of New York, with Minaya responding that in fact pitching in Montreal was a more pressure-filled situation. Kay said Minaya stressed that in Montreal Vazquez played in front of small crowds with little run support, so coming to New York with a good offense and a filled stadium ought to be a more comfortable situation. Maybe the context of Montreal makes it harder to to win, but it certainly doesn’t mean added pressure. There’s no comparison, in my opinion, between Montreal and New York, and comments like that make you wonder if Minaya has it all going on upstairs. Thankfully Jim Kaat immediately and respectfully disagreed with Minaya.
