Familiarity, Contempt: Jays-Sox Gamer II

This will be the 8th contest between the two clubs, and they will be halfway through their season series before the ides of May. The last time Buchholz faced the Jays, he was accused of throwing spitters and all other manner of cheating by certain BJ broadcast personalities and would-be HoFers (and the national media was only too happy to take the story and run with it). Today, it’s time to show these morons, who believe it’s possible to cheat like that in front of constant HD camera surveillance, where they can stick it.

Buehrle vs. Buchholz.

  • Red Sox getting their brains beat in by Buehrle (whoa, unintenional alliteration, Batman), down 2-0 after 6.

  • Buchholz good through 7, having given up 2 on 5 hits and 3 walks. Pitch count seems reasonable to bring him in for the 8th.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 4:08 pm
  • Should be it for Buchholz at 100+ pitches. 8 IP, 2 ER is a good day. Buehrle’s had a better one.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 4:27 pm
  • Buehrle walks Ross on 8 or so pitches after having him down 0-2. Leadoff man on for the Sox in the 8th and Buehrle gives way to Darren Oliver.

  • Victorino K’s, but Pedey sends a ball with a weird spinning hop to short that Kawasaki cannot handle. Tied. Ortiz.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 4:41 pm
  • Pedroia steals 2nd, but Ortiz K’s on a check swing. They walk Napoli to get to Gomes.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 4:46 pm
  • Gomes K. Ugh. Tazawa and Uehara were both warming.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 4:47 pm
  • Not a Hall of Fame AB from Gomes there. Still, feels good to have it tied up.

  • Tazawa vs. Lind. Fastball middle of the zone taken. Curveball in the middle of the zone that Lind is completely fooled on. Fastball down, curveball outside, 2-2 count. Inner middle fastball fouled back. Curveball crushed to center for a homer. 3-2 Jays. Kinda felt that one coming, somehow.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 4:52 pm
  • Ugh, nevermind.

  • Well, at least Buchholz won’t take the loss.

  • Lawrie base hit down the right field line. Yikes.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 4:53 pm
  • Yeah, feels like we’re in shitty loss territory at this point. At least it was a good ball game. Bottom of the order does not inspire optimism and I’m relatively certain the Jays will score at least once more.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 4:55 pm
  • Strike ’em out, throw ’em out.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 4:57 pm
  • Down 1 with Middlebrooks, Drew, and Ross due to bat.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 5:01 pm
  • Yeah, sw, minor balm, but still nice to not see an L in Buchholz’s record, even if I do see W/L as meaningless, generally.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 5:04 pm
  • Cabrera lets it get behind him and Middlebrooks gets to 2nd! Ohhhh boy. Stupid game stress.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 5:05 pm
  • Oh yeah, here’s how meaningless W/L is, Devine – we may yet see Tazawa get the W!

    stuck working May 11, 2013, 5:05 pm
  • Soft liner to short for Drew. No advance. Nava PH for Ross.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 5:07 pm
  • Janssen v. Nava: foul grounder down the first base line. Popup to Cabrera. 2 down. Welp, it’s all there for Jacoby Ellsbury, who was the hero of the 8th inning.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 5:09 pm
  • To the pitcher, and it’s over. Blergh.

    Devine May 11, 2013, 5:09 pm
  • Way to waste a lead-off double. Blergh indeed.
