Fifth Business: Sox-Nats Gamer II

A win tonight makes it 5 in a row, and what a far cry that would be from last Thursday in Minnesota, when all seemed lost.  Tim Wakefield takes the hill, so all eyes are on the knuckler and the humid air currents wafting through Fenway.  Use this as your game thread for the evening’s action.

  • Wake’s cruising so far….a little offense for him would be nice.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:27 pm
  • It seems that Trot has been watching to many of Nomah’s hitting secret’s videos. The ones where you swing at the first pirch. I can’t complain this time, at least he got on base.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:29 pm
  • Trot with the single.

    SF June 20, 2006, 7:30 pm
  • MLBtv is a full three minutes behind, and Gameday is like a snail. Argh.

  • Now we’re cooking

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:31 pm
  • BB for Lowell. 1/2 nobody out for Coco.

    SF June 20, 2006, 7:32 pm
  • I am watching on gamecast(ed)

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:32 pm
  • I’m such a moron. Why do I have Livan on my fantasy team? And why did I decide to start him at Fenway?

    Nick-YF June 20, 2006, 7:32 pm
  • Coco had no crisp.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:33 pm
  • That homerun for Howard barely shows up on the Phillies hit for Gamecast. Where did it land?

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:34 pm
  • Mirabelli with a RBI?

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:35 pm
  • Cora! 2-0 Sox.

    SF June 20, 2006, 7:36 pm
  • Livan 1.1 innings pitched, 33 pitches

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:36 pm
  • I have little confidence that Livan will retire another batter.

    Nick-YF June 20, 2006, 7:39 pm
  • Youk gets robbed of a hit

    NeffSox June 20, 2006, 7:39 pm

  • Wake is getting run support.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:41 pm
  • what was the onfield delay?

    Anonymous June 20, 2006, 7:41 pm
  • Nice at-bat. 8 pitch walk. Will Livan see the 4th inning at this rate?

    SF June 20, 2006, 7:41 pm
  • And of course gets a walk out of it

    NeffSox June 20, 2006, 7:41 pm
  • Unsure what the delay was

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:41 pm
  • LORETTA YES!

    Anonymous June 20, 2006, 7:42 pm
  • The onfield delay was Mirrabelli was standing on third and the ball hit him on the foot, which was touching the bag, and was called a foul ball. Very close play, but the ball seems to have gone over the bag.

    NeffSox June 20, 2006, 7:42 pm
  • 2 run single for Lo. 4-0 Sox. Will Livan see the 3rd inning?

    SF June 20, 2006, 7:42 pm
  • Livan is meat

    Rob June 20, 2006, 7:43 pm

  • rbi double for trot

    NeffSox June 20, 2006, 7:49 pm
  • By the way SF…I feel you could have used Robertson Davies a bit better. So, a curse on your manny/ortiz family!

    walein June 20, 2006, 7:50 pm
  • walein, Livan will be available ASAP.

    Nick-YF June 20, 2006, 7:51 pm
  • Good night Livan. See you in a month???

    Anonymous June 20, 2006, 7:52 pm
  • After Nick’s dis of Canadian lit last week, I couldn’t help it. How else can I use it – a five game win streak seemed a propos, no?
And I am glad someone got the reference, W.

    SF June 20, 2006, 7:52 pm
  • the Canadians gods are getting me back. Livan ERA for tonight: 32.4, his WHIP: 6.00. The damage done to my team: immeasurable

    Nick-YF June 20, 2006, 7:57 pm
  • My advice? Start drinking heavily. That or quit playing rotisserie.

    SF June 20, 2006, 8:00 pm
  • Livan Hernandez and Tony Armas are supposedly among the most desirable pitchers available before the trade deadline, huh? They’ve both pretty much guaranteed that they won’t be moving to the American League.

    airk June 20, 2006, 8:01 pm
  • Livan and Armas are this year’s Jeff Suppan.

    Tom sf June 20, 2006, 8:07 pm
  • Joey Cora’s average is up to .295. I think he wants AGons’s job. I don’t know, though. I really love AGon’s defense. It’s just so different and cool to see a Sox player making those plays.

    Tom sf June 20, 2006, 8:10 pm
  • Maybe they should consider saving some of these runs for Wake’s next start.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 8:10 pm
  • I like AGons glove also. He is definately not an offensive juggernaut, however he is not a liability like rent-a-wreck.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 8:11 pm
  • i cant stand Gonzo but hes been hot since he missed 2 game s a month ago and spent the time working with Papa Jack.

    Anonymous June 20, 2006, 8:13 pm
  • Well if all goes according to plan the bullpen should get a decent rest tonight.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 8:23 pm
  • Youk, Ortiz and Lowell only ones without a RBI so far.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 8:24 pm
  • 8 runs and 12 hits in 4 innings. When was the last time the Sox had a laugher like this?
Can the Sox move to the NL?

    Tom sf June 20, 2006, 8:26 pm
  • Nice play by Trot to hold that to a single.

    Tom sf June 20, 2006, 8:30 pm
  • Phillies 5, Yankees 3 in the 5th. Mussina’s blowing his Cy Young award.

    Tom sf June 20, 2006, 8:34 pm
  • Gamecast is showing 3-3…did something change?

    Rob June 20, 2006, 8:35 pm
  • I just checked gameday. Looks like Howard is playing t-ball with Mussina.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 8:36 pm
  • Washington is running in the scrubs

    Rob June 20, 2006, 8:39 pm
  • I think that maybe Hansen should get some throwing time tonight….comfortable lead and some room to make an error and not blow a game.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 8:43 pm
  • oh my…this is starting to look ugly

    Rob June 20, 2006, 8:47 pm
  • I agree- this could be a good opportunity for Hansen.

    Tom sf June 20, 2006, 8:51 pm
  • Wake gets 2 Ks with the bases loaded! One more…Yes! Clutch!!!

    Tom sf June 20, 2006, 8:55 pm
  • Saw him strike out the side against Baltimore with runners at the corners. This was as impressive.

    Devine June 20, 2006, 8:59 pm
  • Wakefield is really having a very nice season so far. With any run support he could easily be 8-4 instead of 4-8.

    Tom sf June 20, 2006, 9:01 pm
  • Crisp Homers 9-1
    Cora 3-3 with single

    Anonymous June 20, 2006, 9:21 pm
  • And now Youk walks.

    Anonymous June 20, 2006, 9:21 pm
  • RBI single Loretta 10-1

    Anonymous June 20, 2006, 9:23 pm
  • so far we have had 21 baserunners. Unbelievable given the past production when Wake was on the mound.

    Rob June 20, 2006, 9:26 pm
  • 11-1!!
Yankees tie it up 5-5 on a “clutch” hit by ARod.
