Fifth Starter? What Fifth Starter?: Sox-Rays Gamer III

We couldn’t win with Josh Beckett on the mound. We couldn’t win with Curt Schilling on the mound. Now we have Jason Johnson on the mound.

Let’s just say I’m hoping Mike Mussina gets lit up like a Christmas tree tonight. Comment away!

  • Johnson will end up winning the game based off of the initial thread.

  • certainly the reverse curse was Paul’s intention.

    Nick-YF July 5, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • typical as of late

    Rob July 5, 2006, 7:24 pm
  • I think this is now 5 Sox errors in 3 games. 1-0 Tampa Bay.

    Tom sf July 5, 2006, 7:34 pm
  • OBA on Johnson….. .342

    Rob July 5, 2006, 7:35 pm
  • Hard to imagine, but Johnson’s ERA actually went up that inning.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 7:37 pm
  • How could his ERA go up with an unearned run?

    TJ July 5, 2006, 7:45 pm
  • Tek having a little power surge of late.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 7:46 pm
  • And Johnson starts the second by giving a leadoff double. This guy is great. We really should have looked into him sooner.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 7:47 pm
  • Not sure TJ…but gamecast it is showing it as earned….check that, the in-game box score corrected.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 7:57 pm
  • And he walks Lugo….

    Rob July 5, 2006, 7:58 pm
  • this one has all the makings of a shootout

    airk July 5, 2006, 8:05 pm
  • Youkilis hits one off the catwalk, caught by Crawford. Domes suck.

    airk July 5, 2006, 8:09 pm
  • Youk looks like he wants to drive a bulldozer through the stadium.

    airk July 5, 2006, 8:11 pm
  • I walk away and it was 1-1 here and in Cleveland. I come back and it 4-1 here and 9-1 Yanks. I really am not sure who is worse, Clement or Johnson.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:18 pm
  • In two innings he has given up 6 hits and 2 walks. Did the front office really believe that he was a victim of Cleveland’s defense?

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:21 pm
  • Gomes tossed for saying a naughty word to the ump

    airk July 5, 2006, 8:22 pm
  • Gomes tossed for arguing balls and strikes. In all fairness he should be tossed for that. The way that Johnson is throwing there should be no question if it is a b/s.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:22 pm
  • Wiggington headed to the plate….this guy has been feasting on our pitching.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:28 pm
  • phew… it’s nervewracking watching Johnson work.

    airk July 5, 2006, 8:31 pm
  • Johnson wiggles off the hook again. Not sure how many more times he is going to be able to do that tonight.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:32 pm
  • Latest rumor is Huff possibly headed to the Yanks

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:33 pm
  • where’d you hear that?

    Nick-YF July 5, 2006, 8:33 pm
A highly regarded scout from the Yanks is there watching Huff.
    Another good rumor page:

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:34 pm
This is a good page to look at, granted it is Sox eccentric…however they are at the point of the season where they track the player movements and also do it during the offseason.
Just click on the buzz on the left hand side.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:36 pm
  • Torre is asking for bats, not arms.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:36 pm
  • thanks.
Yeah, Torre and Steve Goldman at Pinstriped Bible want an outfielder with a good bat. They think it’s a bigger need than pitching right now. I’d be ok with Huff for the right price (i.e. not Hughes)

    Nick-YF July 5, 2006, 8:38 pm
  • Wow! Crawford steals home! Hats off for that, but huge HUGE thumbs down to Johnson for working out of the stretch (and the the Sox for not correcting him)

    airk July 5, 2006, 8:48 pm
  • Wow.. Crawford. That’s amazing.

    attackgerbil July 5, 2006, 8:49 pm
  • on the replay, you can see that crawford is *almost* already in his slide by the time johnson releases the ball.

    airk July 5, 2006, 8:50 pm
  • sac fly for Youk brings in Lowell. good, aggressive decision by Hale to test Baldelli.

    airk July 5, 2006, 8:55 pm
  • I think that this Johnson experiment has run its course. I would rather we have one of those “bullpen” games than have this clown pitch.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:58 pm
  • I’m watching Pittsburgh/Mets, Florida/Washington, Boston/Tampa, and Yankees/Cleveland. On the Mets broadcast earlier, they showed Reyes running on a triple. From contact to when he touched third on his slide, he was timed at 10.3 seconds. Amazing. Crawford has that kind of speed as well. You can’t ignore him.

    attackgerbil July 5, 2006, 8:58 pm
  • Nick..who else do the Yanks have that they can offer? Hughes is really the only minor leaguer that have that you hear about.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 8:59 pm
  • Oh god, please don’t trade Hughes.

    attackgerbil July 5, 2006, 9:00 pm
  • You can’t ignore Crawford….obviously the schumck we have on the mound fell asleep though.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 9:00 pm
  • I do not think that they would trade Hughes…I think that they will offer TB a couple of middle of the road minro leaguers and a lot of cash….. a crap load of cash.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 9:01 pm
  • I can’t believe I’m saying this, but…I’m glad Orc is in the game. It’s an improvement.

    Tom sf July 5, 2006, 9:02 pm
  • LOL…yes compared to Johnson we are in good hands right now. Really nothing to fear right now. We are losing by multiple runs. Orc usually gives up runs when we are ahead or down by one.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 9:04 pm
  • 4 friggin base runners tonight. Seems like whenever we go in a dome our game does a nosedive this season.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 9:05 pm
  • Nice single by Ortiz there.

    attackgerbil July 5, 2006, 9:05 pm
  • Ortiz keeps it on the ground so he can’t get robbed by the roof.

    attackgerbil July 5, 2006, 9:06 pm
  • Getting gamecasted…..

    Rob July 5, 2006, 9:06 pm
  • Single just posted

    Rob July 5, 2006, 9:07 pm
  • manny lines out….way to advance the runner.

    Rob July 5, 2006, 9:08 pm
  • And like lambs to the slaughter…..

    Rob July 5, 2006, 9:12 pm
  • is it me or is Crisp getting worse as the year goes on (offensively)?

    Rob July 5, 2006, 9:24 pm
  • Crisp is getting worse as the year has gone on… 0 for his last 17, I think… I didn’t like the Johnson move when we made it. I don’t like it now. Can we please trade for a real pitcher?

    Paul SF July 5, 2006, 9:33 pm
  • On the bright side, Chad Harville is back out there, and he sucketh mightily…

    Paul SF July 5, 2006, 9:35 pm
  • The Orc has gone two scoreless innings. That’s about his limit… I predict the run here…

    Paul SF July 5, 2006, 9:38 pm
  • Above prediction thus ensures a third scoreless inning. As much as I like not giving up runs in fairly close games, I fear this means Francona will use him more now in situations that really matter, where he’ll promptly implode again…
This game is still winnable. It just doesn’t feel that way. Can we being back the National League?

    Paul SF July 5, 2006, 9:43 pm
  • Ortiz with another K. Manny pops out to left. What is it with Tampa Bay rising to the occasion in the division now? They have been red-headed step-children most of the year against the east.

    attackgerbil July 5, 2006, 9:52 pm
  • The worst part is, if the Sox are playing this poorly against the D-Rays, how will they fare against the White Sox? *sigh* This stopped being fun about the moment I signed back on…

    Paul SF July 5, 2006, 9:55 pm
  • Bright note: Hansen strikds out the side, including Wigginton on three pitches. By far his best performance of the year… Encouraging… Maybe he should start :-P

    Paul SF July 5, 2006, 10:00 pm
  • Yeah, so this has been a sucky return to AL play…
