Finally, a Game We Won’t Sleep Through: Sox-Angels Gamer

The Onion takes on Manny, the Sox take on the Angels. Comment here.

was at the game last nite and cannot say enough about bards debut. his stuff was electric. he faced the heart of the angels lineup and made them look slow. i had angels fans in my section asking me all about the kid. hopefully theo/tito will have the guts to give the kid a legitimate chance to stick with the club for the remainder of the year.

something that keeps bugging me is, how many RBI would jason bay have if papi could hit his weight?

tori hunter is quickly becoming a sox killer. he joins other such greats as vernon wells and carl crawford.

Did you know the league was OPSing .906 against Brad Penny before this game?
3-2 Angels.

Glad to have Elf back in the line-up. Sort of puts the world back on the correct axis.

“Boy, this has been some series.”
this has been a series that has involved our AAA lineup and julio lugo DH-ing. boy do i miss youk.

at what point do we give up on Papi? I hate to say it but a turnaround is looking less and less likely. I would very much like to be wrong about that.

Ponch: end of June? I think Papi’s earned that much. You can drop him in the order a bit sooner than that, though.

theo- sing bay long term today. or deal with the yanks offering him $800,000,000 for 20 years this offseason.

it’s just painful to watch ortiz at the plate. 0-2 hole everytime. leaving runners in scoring position every at bat. it’s time to move him down the lineup starting tomorrow. even hitting fifth might make a difference.

Not exactly, Andrew. At least Big Mo had the broken ankle as an excuse. But your larger point … yeah.
Radio says Angles fan has sign with Papi’s season HR total. Does that fan also have a sign with Abreau’s season HR total?

The last two starts, Penny has stunk/gotten a bit lucky early in the game, then had a couple effective innings to close it out.
Yet another quality start of the 6 IP, 3 ER variety.

what concerns me about ortiz is that fringe pitchers are just throwing to him. when the season started pitchers were sticking to the book on ortiz. low and in to tie him up. i hoped it was a timing thing and he’d work it out after a couple weeks. now they’re not even game-planning him. just chucking. he’s pressing hard and only digging a deeper hole by putting himself in behind in counts early.
none of this is good news with inter-league play looming. not sure you can sit lowell to put a glove on papi.

Forgot about interleague play, rod. I agree, there’s no way you sit Lowell or Youk if they’re both healthy and things stay the way they are with Papi.

The little guy is 4 for 4, on base 5 times and just drove in the tying run in the 8th. Nice return game.
Ortiz with yet another big opportunity.

wow. hit and run with lugo on second. good call tito. beating the angels at their own game. welcome back pedroia.

first pitch swinging ortiz. why even bother trying to see more pitches when you’ve already told the pitcher you’ll be flailing at whatever he throws.

on second look that wasn’t a hit and run. lugo was on a straight steal of third. ellsbury wasn’t running at first.

Crappity carp – my mlbradio jsut stopped working and I missed the play!

I mean, Drew’s momentum was taking him to left field. He made that throw on the run and threw him out easy.

that’s 2 PO for drew today. could it be one of those days where the glove carries over to the bat and JD hits the game winner?

Baldelli on-deck instead of Drew. Must have hurt himself throwing?
Lowell walks with 1 out, here’s Rocco.

just as i say that. rocco inserted for drew. now we wait to find out how hurt drew is.

radio guy’s saying drew looked fine running off the field. possibly a match up thing.

Green pinch-running for Lowell. Tito getting creative here.
Rocco singles. 2 on, 1 down.

I don’t get the Drew substitution, but it happened to work… At least, Baldelli is on base. Just so long as Bailey doesn’t GIDP.

can’t believe the money the angels threw at fuentes. a career NL soft tossing set up guy.

just looked at the numbers and rocco struck out in his only appearance vs. fuentes. makes me believe something is wrong with drew. drew had struck out in his only AB vs. fuentes as well.

Well, actually, it *didn’t* work — in that the Sox evidently needed a double, triple or home run from Drew’s spot in the order, since Bailey/Tek were up next. Grrr!

Francona tossed for arguing balls and strikes. Get your money’s worth Tito!

What a giant pile of blown opportunity, exacerbated by an amazing catch by Hunter to prevent a 5 for 5 day by the Elf.

another great at bat for ortiz. first pitch swinging. how can a ML hitter go up swinging everytime and expect to be productive?

Papi now 0-7 in the game with 3K’s. Perhaps it is time for management to have a talk with the big guy about taking a trip to Pawtucket to work on some stuff.
Bases loaded with 1 out and we cant score.

well that was a complete and utter waste of 4.5 hours.
we’ll be seeing a different lineup come tomorrow. hopefully one that still includes drew tho.

He has to move Ortiz out of that spot. There is no other option left now. If he doesn’t, he’s showing loyalty to Ortiz over the better good of the team. Move him down to sixth or seventh for awhile, and take some pressure off of him. I can’t handle seeing the bases jacked for him one more time just to watch him called out or ground out to first.

The lineup I’d like to see:
1. Ellsbury
2. Pedroia
3. Bay
4. Lowell
5. Drew
6. Ortiz
7. Lugo
8. Varitek
9. Bailey
When Youk is back put him in the 3 spot and slide everyone down.
