First the Hatfields, then the McCoys

The topic of the day in Soxland is Curt Schilling and his future team, apparently (not?!) the Yankees.  As if Curt could stay away from the spotlight, even while on the 60-day DL!

  • I love how every Sox “icon” thinks a Yankee contract is a given if they don’t return to Beantown. Just cause the Yanks were dumb enough to need Damon (you know, when there was three years of Bernie writing on the wall) doesn’t mean there’s a contract waiting for them. What next, a Varitek rumor? Or Mirabelli? ;)

What other Sox “icons” besides Schilling have thought this, A? Certainly not Bob Stanley. Nor did Rey Quinones. Or Kevin Romine or Bob Zupcic. Who are you talking about?!

  • mientkiewicz, damon, meyers, embree, and bellhorn have all been part of this disturbing trend in the last few years. i’ve always wondered if these guy’s wear/wore their WS rings at yankee functions.
couldn’t imagine the yanks being interested in schil next year. can’t imagine we will be either. hope an un-guaranteed incentive based minor league deal with a NL West team floats his boats.

  • speaking as only one fan, we [i] don’t want him…
as for the other possibilities mentioned:
we can’t take varitek…we already have a guy with a “c” on his shirt, well not really, but you know what i mean
was mirabelli really a sox “icon”?

  • Forget the ‘C’ dc, you guys already have an aging catcher who will be sticking around for a few more years! Adding another doesn’t help you guys very much.

  • exactly the point atheose…we don’t need any more problems, and we don’t need to argue about whose catcher is aging better…as for the original point, you can keep schilling…i was joking about the other guys anyway, ’cause i still think the ‘c’ is a hoot…
and just to show you that my sense of humor isn’t one-sided, check this out:
“[blank’s] a 1-2 starter,” O’Connell [agent tom o’connell] said. “Those guys don’t grow on trees. Those guys are very rare, 200-inning guys are very rare in this game, and they’re the ones that make the money. And he did it two years in a row, before he got hurt, and I’m sure he’s going to do it again.” [from an article BY LISA KENNELLY
    Star-Ledger Staff…Newark Star-Ledger]
guess who he was talking about: pavano…i think by referring to him as a 1-2 starter he meant that’s how many average starts per season any team that signs him can expect over the life of his contract [to be fair he started a grand total of 19 games for the yanks]…as for 200 innings, we got exactly 111.3 in 3+ years…you guys still want him?…
