In a harrowing game that went 14 innings yesterday, the Red Sox eventually, somehow, prevailed. This game had a coughed-up 6-0 lead by the Red Sox (who had 8 men reach base in the 1st before making an out, then didn’t score again until extras), a suspicious pitch between the batter’s uniform numbers by John Lackey to Matt Joyce (cleared the benches), Salty shoving two Rays players (one in the scrum and another who momentarily got in the way of him catching a pop-up), a tremendously awful pitching performance by Bailey that somehow didn’t end the game after he walked in the tying run with 0 out in the 10th, 2 great innings by the overworked Uehara, and Wednesday’s supposed starter Morales throwing the last 2 for the Red Sox.
It was exhausting to be a fan, let alone a player.
And now they have to do it again.
Lester has been pretty far from great for the past month. Today’s matchup with Roberto “Not Fausto Carmona” Hernandez would be a really, really, really good time for Jon to find his form and deliver 8 innings (or 9 as long as we’re being greedy). Comment should you feel the urge.
