Gag Order?

Question for my esteemed co-blogger: Can we avoid any posts on the injustices of the All-Star team selections? I say we stick to a debate about how stupid it is that this meaningless exhibition determines home field advantage in the World Series, even as that home field is debated as even being an advantage.

I don’t want to have to discuss why silly fans vote someone like Matsui into the All-Star game, or why the internet “vote early and vote often” ethos should be able to influence the October Classic.

  • One fan at a game with an awl can do a heck of a lot more damage to the All Star voting process than any internet user could…

  • By all means, let’s also not discuss how absurd it is that Jason Giambi gets the nod over Paul Konerko, who, as I type these words, just knocked in two more runs against the Halos. No, let’s not bring that up.

  • Now that this game is determining home field advantage in the series, you can be sure YF is hoping for the best possible AL squad (our suggestion: Ortiz at first, Giambi handing out towels).
But for all the carping, it’s nice to see so many players who don’t get much press—Matt Lawton, Carlos Guillen, Carl Crawford, ro name but a few—deservedly recognized.
