John Lackey has been a little off the mark his last couple of starts (NYY, BAL). ‘Twould be much appreciated if he could squash these AL West dregs (they’re doing better than the Angels, though), but he may have his hands full with Hisashi Iwakuma, who got battered by the Sox earlier this month, but has been damn good again since…against LAA, HOU, and MIN.
Brock Holt has been called up (not Middlebrooks or Bogaerts) for Iwakuma vs. Lackey. And comment if that’s your thing.
Man, I hate when the M’s play the Sox…I’m blacked out from their starts.
Astros are leading the Orioles 9-0, Diamondbacks leading the Rays 4-0. Red Sox inexplicably trailing the Mariners 1-0. Lackey pretty good so far. Runs needed.
Double for Brock Holt. That’s about the number of hits Iggy had in the last four weeks, no?
And Ackley drops one. Runners on first and third, no outs.
By the way, isn’t Detroit the only proper destination for Iggy? Would be even more so, if he had some Pop in his bat.
And another E by the Mariners, which I believe should have been ruled a hit, allows Holt to score. And an Pedroia RBI gives us the lead.
Not Papi’s night so far. But the Sox catch a couple of breaks in this inning. We’ll take it.
Hellickson pitching for the Rays tonight. He would have pitched game 4 against us except for the rainout. Instead we got David Price in the make-up game.
Second shaky inning from Lackey. Mariners back on top.
Astros now up 10-0, Diamondbacks still up 4-0 after 6.
Another squander.
Lasershow!!!!
Lackey at 95 pitches after 7, so of course we have to bring in Tazawa who immediately coughs up the lead.
If we lose this game it’ll be just as bad as on Monday. And then we didn’t have any right to be in the game the way Price was pitching. But tonight we should be comforably ahead.
Nice pick by Napoli to end the inning. Tied at 4.
DREWWWWWWW! FIRST PLACE!
15 goddamn innings. Hope Peavy ate his Wheaties (I think he’s starting tomorrow).
