I’m a day late with this one, but it needs mentioning: Turns out, the seemingly surly Mike Mussina shares a passion with comedy guru to the stars Bruce Vilanch for kitschy T-shirts. From yesterday’s Times article about Mussina’s match-up with future Red Sox headache Phillip Hughes: "Every day he shows up in the clubhouse at Legends Field, Mike Mussina dates himself. Mussina, the Yankees’ 37-year-old right-hander, insists he brought other T-shirts to spring training, but everything he wears comes from his vast collection of 1980’s T’s." Moose’s choice for his first start of spring was a Captain America shirt. But he’s not the only Yank or Sock who collects odd items: Sources close to both teams tell me that Manny’s collection of these matches his outsized love of modern flute music; that Gary Sheffield ‘s impressive collection of these singlehandedly has kept public broadcasting afloat; would you believe what hangs in Curt Schilling’s closet; and that following the meglomaniacal example of Prince, Bernie’s entire music collection is made up of 10,000 copies of this disc?
