GG Of Trade Bait

Pete Abraham’s write-up fluffs the speculation that Youkilis is essentially extraneous to the Sox roster and that the Giants, Diamondbacks and Dodgers are watching closely, with a couple of other teams interested as well.

It certainly makes sense from a long-term perspective if they can get a decent return. He’s injury-prone and getting old at a position that does not like the old.
But he’s a better power threat than Gonzalez at this moment in time. If it’s about this year, they probably shouldn’t trade him (he could be awesome enough to justify picking up the option next year). If an offer were on the table that helps the club out substantially for a couple of years, they should certainly look into it. He’s been really good since coming back from the injury.

RE: Artist Formerly Known as Muscle
I just saw a tweet that Torre spoke to both Martin and Diaz and no fines will be imposed.
Doesn’t this mean Russell was telling the truth? No way he talks about an umpire that way and doesn’t get at least fined, right?
Unless is was true.
Dun, dun, duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun…

I think they had a plan all along to trade him, just think it was going to happen after the season. Don’t think the plan was for him to go on the DL and with all the other injuries they would have had to bring up Middlebrooks. If Ellsbury doesn’t get hurt and Crawford doesn’t mess up his elbow, think they may have used Punto at 3rd while Youk was on the DL.
Other interesting note is Pete saying they should trade Ellsbury before he is a FA, since when did the Sox become the Rays?
