Gloves and Rocket: Tigers-Yanks Gamer III

Roger Clemens returns to the mound today, having served his time for plunking Toronto’s Alex Rios as a farewell in Clemens’ six-inning one-run performance.  Fortunately for everyone, it’s a FOX game today so we get to enjoy some Saturday afternoon baseball on the tube.  Chad Durbin is on the mound for Detroit, and is coming off back-to-back losses in which he has given up nine runs (eight earneed) in his just shy of nine innings of work.

"We’re going to stay awake, For as long as it takes, To correct all the silly mistakes we have made, We’re going to play watch a game." – L&R. Yay FOX.

  • Sheffield doubles in the 1st of Rah-jah, but he’s stranded.
One gets the impression that Sheff is running on pure venom toward New York (and it’s working for him).

  • Sheffield reaches again and scores on a sac fly with the bases loaded in the 4th… 2 out.
No Yankee fans here? Wow. Must all be at the game!

  • 2-1 tigers on a rookies first ML HR

    TJ August 18, 2007, 5:23 pm
  • Maybin homers off of Rah-jah to make it 2-1 tigers.

  • Wow! Abreu hits one right around the left field foul pole!
What a great break for the Yankees.
Also, Roger Clemens wasn’t dominant this afternoon (10 hits), but he struck out 8 and walked none. Also, his fastball was up to 92 consistently.

  • Now ARod with the grounder back up the middle keeps it going.

    attackgerbil August 18, 2007, 5:59 pm
  • Kyle Farnsworth warming in the pen.
Seriously, I think Torre just uses this to motivate the Yankees into scoring more runs.

  • Chad Durbin looks like Josh from this season’s Hell’s Kitchen.

    attackgerbil August 18, 2007, 6:06 pm
  • Guillen makes a nice stop to his left but can’t get ARod at second on the Jeter-esque launch-n-throw.

    attackgerbil August 18, 2007, 6:07 pm
  • his right rather.

    attackgerbil August 18, 2007, 6:08 pm
  • Wow, what the hell? I thought that was Posada running, but it was A-Rod. Maybin doesn’t really have a strong throw and A-Rod scores easily, despite looking like he was struggling to get down the third base line.

  • ARod is safe at home running on a ground ball singled to shallow left by Robi .. bad throw.

    attackgerbil August 18, 2007, 6:11 pm
  • Yeah, ARod looked tired.

    attackgerbil August 18, 2007, 6:12 pm
  • He was running all the way. I was surprised when he got sent; it was hit in front of him and slow, and Maybin was playing in.

    attackgerbil August 18, 2007, 6:12 pm
  • Now Andy Phillips fists one to left to bring home Jorge.

    attackgerbil August 18, 2007, 6:16 pm
  • Oh my god. Eric Gagne’s role model is in the game. Why, Torre, why? Edwar Ramirez was warming up, what happened to him? ARGH.

    AndrewYF August 18, 2007, 6:22 pm
  • Break’s over.. back to work for me. bye for now.

    attackgerbil August 18, 2007, 6:23 pm
  • Who the hell was that? When did the Yankees get another bullpen arm?

    AndrewYF August 18, 2007, 6:29 pm
  • Why? Why isn’t Edwar being brought in with a 3-run lead? Is Torre going to let him stew another 2 weeks so he can then completely implode again?!
    Argh.

  • This is interesting. Henn is up and throwing in the Yankee ‘pen. Insurance in case Mo gets in trouble again?

    yankeemonkey August 18, 2007, 7:07 pm
  • Maybin gets schooled on 4 pitches. No shame in that, kid.

    yankeemonkey August 18, 2007, 7:08 pm
  • Granderson with a lazy flyout to Melky, 2 down.

    yankeemonkey August 18, 2007, 7:08 pm
  • Falls behind Casey 3-0 with Sheff lurking…

    yankeemonkey August 18, 2007, 7:09 pm
  • The 3-0 kisses the outside corner for a strike. Then what looked like a perfectly good pitch is called ball 4. Bah. Sheff is being booed lustily as he steps in.

    yankeemonkey August 18, 2007, 7:10 pm
  • Pinch-runner in for Casey takes second on the ol’ DI. Sheff grounds out to Alex to end it.
    Yanks win! Yaaaay!
