Go Back, Jack: Yanks-O’s Gamer IX

Hey, look! Nine back again. Funny how a series against a somewhat decent team has a way of rounding off that buzz one gets from watching the crew wreak havoc against the cellar dwellers. Today’s affair is currently delayed, which gave me enough time to get a gamer up before the first pitch. Anytime your 8 month old lets you sleep in, you take it. Speaking of sleeping, New York’s narcoleptic offense needs to come alive a bit earlier if they wish salvage a win in the series after last night’s disappointment. Chien-Ming Wang goes to the mound for the Bombers. Wang is 4-1 in his last five starts and will face Daniel Cabrera, who held TB scoreless in seven innings allowing only one hit and giving up five walks in his last outing. Hopefully the bats remember what they started doing in the ninth last night, and do it again. Wheels turning.

  • the anemia continues despite scoring a run in the first. but with bases loaded and no outs, that’s just criminal.

  • damon is really showing why teams were silly not to offer 4 years today. 3 for 4 with a couple runs scored. it might be time to sign his extension.

  • Yeah but that doesn’t make up for the fact that he is batting .242 on the year and slugging .337 the lowest of his career and the second lowest OPS of his career.

  • i agree. there’s really no room on this starting roster for him anymore. good clubhouse guy and overall leader, but i’d rather have melky in at CF and leading off. with giambi and doug coming back soon and eventually, i don’t see damon being as great of an asset.

  • Mo strikes out the side to end the game, though he did allow a couple hits.

  • When Mo’s ERA was 10+ earlier this year, my buddy said he was done. I made him a bet then, which, because I’m statistically minded, was a bit of a longshot, even if Mo reverted to form, that Mo would finish the year with an ERA below his career average at the time (2.31). Mo needs to throw 14 more consecutive scoreless IPs to get to that. If he gives up any more ERs, he’ll need more. I expect he’ll throw another 25 or so IPs, and it’s still a bit a long shot, but fun to root for.

  • Been out of town. We might not catch the Sox, but we might not need to, since we’re “only” 4 games back on the WC. Then we can lose in the first round to the Angels!
