So there’s about no chance I will be up to see the Sox tonight – a long week, a west coast start, and Kyle Snyder. For those on the east coast who have nocturnal abilities and those on the west coast who have the stomach to see if the Sox can make Snyder look like a champ, here’s your game thread. Comment away.

Kason Gabbard, who has arrived in Seattle was not at the park today because he has not yet been added to the roster, will make the start tomorrow in place of the injured Tim Wakefield
I think I said this here the other day, but I saw Gabbard start for the Pawsox on Tuesday, and I was thoroughly unimpressed. His AA numbers are much better than his AAA numbers, but that he really struggled duting his stint in Pawtucket doe snot bode well for tomorrow. I’m hoping for the best, but I’m kind of glad I won’t be around tomorrow afternoon.
Oh, and doe snot= does not, but I think you all could probably figure that out. It was just such a weird combo of words that came up, I had to point it out.
Which leads into a probable issue of Gabbard gretting knocked around tomorrow.
Gabbard AA stats
W L ERA G GS CG IP H R ER HR BB SO
9 2 2.57 13 13 1 73.2 51 26 21 4 25 68
AAA Stats
W L ERA G GS CG IP H R ER HR BB SO
1 3 4.97 5 5 0 29.0 30 17 16 5 10 23
The hits went up, the HRs went up as did the BB’s per appearance. Not a good omen.
His scouting report:
Scouting Report: Lefty suffered nagging injuries over his first few year in pro ball. When healthy, Gabbard has a high 80s sinking fastball that hits the low 90s, with a plus changeup and curveball. Mature with good mound presence.
If you look this kid up and review the stats, the time at AA this year has been his only real bright spot stats wise. His other time in the minors has not looked all that great.
has a high 80s sinking fastball that hits the low 90s
Must accelerate as it sinks. Score another win for the radar guns.
Back sooner than I expected. Chacon gives up a double and a walk. Gets the hook. Mercy. Villone walks them loaded.
Wrong thread, ag. But from the sound of it, the Yanks aren’t doing too well. Hahaha. All the better for us, based on out starters for the next two days.
This game is choking in my throat like a plate of SF’s grease-laden, coagulated cheese nachos.
Thankfully pinch-hitter Molina flies out to avert a disaester.
Two off thread posts!! Arrgh. Thanks, Laura. I probably wouldn’t have noticed.
You know once or twice with “off thread posts” as he/she put it can be looked as as a mistake, but he/she does it every single game. I think he/she likes to annoy the sox thread with Yankee updates.
Yeah TJ, I’ve probably cross-posted 7-8 times. Usually because I post so rapid-fire on the Yanks threads while I am constantly reading the Sox thread in an adjacent window. Now that I know it annoys sox fans, I will do it with purpose. :)
Or I could just blame alcohol.
Homerun Papi 1-0
Snyder looking decent 1-0 after 2 innings.
AGON!!!
just got home anyone know why Pena isn’t starting against this lefty?
…I’ll take that as a no.
jeez guys it is a friday night, no one can stay up later than 10:30??
YOUK!
now Manny 8-0
This is an impressive display of power
Five innings, five home runs by five different Sox batters.
Loretta, Crisp, Nixon and Kapler are slacking off.
8-1, wild pitch bringing in the run; men on 1st and 3rd, 1 out. Snyder’s wheels seem to be coming off here in the 5th. Needs a DP, big time.
Sac fly makes it 8-2.
1st and 2nd, two outs after another walk.
2 out…ball 2, 2-2 count.
Couple fouls in a row. Still 2-2. Get out the inning, Snyder! A third foul…
K! Still 8-2.
Snyder works out of more danger with a K of Ibanez, after a long at-bat. Close one.
It sure would be nice to get more innings out of this guy (who is something of an Arroyo look-alike) to save the staff for tighter games, but I fear he’s still not much more than a 4-inning pitcher.
Sox get a single with 2 out, but nothing else in the top of the 6th. Onward.
Whoa, wait, something happened to Snyder? Anyone see that? I missed it.
Snyder down with an injury during warmups for 6th inning, just what we need.
im listening to WEEI so i dont know what happened.
is nesn saying anything about kyle?
At any rate, Hansen in. Grounder to 3rd. Easy-ish. One down.
hyperextended leg on warmups for the sixth.
Fly to Kapler. 2 down.
Grounder to 3rd. Inning over.
Season kinda flashes before your eyes when you see a ball at Papi’s hands like that.
Papi K’s. Long AB.
Manny hits a line drive single to left.
How’d Papi act after taking a ball off the hands, Devine? I’m following on GameCast.
Varitek…force out. He now stands at 1st.
I always assume drunk hooligan when I see “On-field delay.”
Nixon flies out. 9 outs to go.
Papi knew that ball hit the bat? why argue going to first when the alternative is a chance to extend your at-bat?
Oh, he was upset because he wanted to take 1st on a HBP. Kept pointing and arguing. He seemed all right.
Seattle announcers MIGHT have a point that it hit the knob of the bat before his hand. But I couldn’t tell definitively on the replay.
Whew.
Thanks.
They gave a point but, correct me if I am wrong, the hand is considered part of the bat, no?
Will hansen retaliate?
No idea what the rules are there on getting hit on the hand. I’m sure if it hits the bat, and then your hand, it’s foul, but I would guess hitting your hand is a HBP, no matter if it’s on the bat (if you had to get out of the way).
Single-double, for the third Seattle run. Still nobody out.
Is it me otr does the Mariners announcer sound alot like Orsillo?
I think you’re right, Devine, because the umps basically have to go by sound. Hand/wrist is a kind of hard call to make with the batter’s arm in between you and the ball.
Good thing we got all those runs. 8-4 on the Ichiro single. Still nobody out. If we can get out of this inning with the same score, I’d be pretty happy.
DP. Good.
Single past Gonzalez. Darn.
Huge DP.
MDC coming in! Let’s take it to the 8th, dude.
Jeremiah and John, I’m definitely thinking that I’ve seen some HBPs on a player’s hand(s).
I think you may be right about the HBP. I just always thought that the hand was considered part of the bat. Dont know where I heard that.
3 out on the flyout to Kapler. Can’t let ’em keep scoring two per inning. That whole, “Hansen is good for one inning only” argument gets bolstered today. Clean inning in the 6th. Then trouble all through the 7th.
I agree, Devine. Six outs to go. Here’s hoping they can do it whilst I rest – ‘night, fellas.
Still 8-4 into the bottom of the 8th.
Long AB for MDC ends in a hard ground ball to Youk (at 3rd).
Low curveball misses the hitter’s leg, the catcher’s mitt, and the umpire’s legs. Luckily, no one on base.
3-1 pitch and a flyout to Kapler. 2 out.
Maybe I’ll go to bed if the Mariners don’t score here…maybe not…
2-out single. Please no runs. Please.
Damn. Another single. 1st and 2nd, 2 out for the Mariners.
Need to get this Dobbs guy with Ichiro next. No loading bases for Ichiro. But 2-0 to Dobbs. Hold on tight…
Nipper and Tek will talk to MDC.
2 balls, conference on the mound, 2 strikes.
nice!!!!!!!!!!!
Out of it! 8-4 into the 9th!
i can see the paper tomorow…… 3.5 game lead! one more inning
That’s probably the biggest out of the game there.
How ’bout one more homer for the road? Papi, Manny, I’m looking at you…
huge out. papi makes me nervous. he should be done after this at bat
Won’t be from Senor Octubre. K.
I agree with that, John P. Why put him back in the field with a 4-run lead?
Ooooof, home run cut on 2-0 from Manny.
He takes it to 3-1.
whoaaaaaaaaaa
WAY wide and high for ball 4. Nearly got his head.
should be an interesting bottom 9th. retaliation?
Maybe the pitcher rattled himself there. Walk on 4 pitches to Varitek. 1st and 2nd, 1 out.
Please! For my fantasy team, Trot! (Manny is on my team.)
ball 11
nice play
Nice sliding catch in foul territory from the Seattle 3B there.
Coco! For my fantasy team!
Note: that is not a run scored. Merely a rallying cry from me. 2-0.
theres your run from manny!
Now it is, though! Coco! For my fantasy team!
(PS Crisp is also on my team, so that RBI is good for me, too…I had to trade a better outfielder for a good SP, though, or he wouldn’t be there.)
who is the highest drafted player on your team?
Thanks for stickin’ it out, John P…or are you in an earlier time zone?
im guessing its manny
On my team or in my league?
im really getting fed up with Nixonx pop outs, he must lead the majors with them
That, BTW, was the first run not scored on a home run for the Sox this game, I believe.
I am in Connecticut. watching on MLB Extra Innings. Its been tough, not because of the time, rather, because tonights game is being shown via the mariners broadcast. I hate nights without Don and Jerry.
Yeah, Manny is the highest on my team. Favorite player and completely reliable and all that. But Coco and Schilling are the only 2 other Sox on mine.
on your team. Im guessing its Manny
Unsurprisingly, A-Rod was first in the league.
Emiliano Fruto. Great name.
sounds like a dessert
Go on, A-Gon. Hit a granny. Just for laughs.
I’ve got the game on the radio. I don’t know what’s worse, the Coco RSN spots or the damned Ford ads.
9-4 to the bottom. Wrap it up, people.
Gonzo is developing into one of my favorite players this year. I like the way he battles at the plate and his defense is second to none
i have all the sox guys except manny and ortiz and am in 3rd place i had a deal for Ortiz sending Derrek Lee and chris carpoenter but my league vetoed it :(
Timlin in 9th?
I wonder if all of the Sox feel like it’s 1:30 on their biological clock.
Dude, even Carpenter for Ortiz is a fair trade, I’d say. Can’t believe it was vetoed.
yeah, they must be tired. especially after squeezing in that game yesterday
I’m in 3rd, too, but way below my innings pace (the first two guys are about on pace), so I’m using some good starters to catch up. Sabathia and Colon did not cooperate tonight, however.
Bah. A five-game win streak cures what ails you. Even Floyd Landis isn’t tired.
i have been in second fro about 10 weeks. cant even get close to 1st. I have Lowell and thats it.
Red Sox pass White Sox for 2nd in AL with a win 2nite.
any of you guys see Arods error tonight? I missed it. Was it significant?
Stupid good opposing hitters. Ichiro is delaying my bedtime!
Ichiro Boggs at the plate
It was beautiful. Side-armed it to first, pulled Phillips off the bag high and down the line. That’s what, 5 in 3 games? …
Shea traded to Giants. Shea and Bonds. Bah, hah!
Dirt Dogs has some funny pics of Shea. He was a boob even when he was a sox
It led to the 4-run inning.
I like it when Giambi makes errors, myself. They’re usually pretty special…like earlier this year when he threw to 1st when no one was there.
Finally, the groundout.
Quick 2nd out.
HGH: How Gimabi Homers.
Five in a row, 3.5 up. Nice.
nice. 3.5 is a start!
Giambi.
And cut out that Giambino crap. The Babe never batted .250.
BTW: Jake Peavey drilled Bonds in the knee 2nite. I think I like that trade now.
Night all.
you must be watching sportscenter I saw it and I laughed out loud. it was awesome
night devine
Somebody put a bounty on him.
Adios from Illinois.
night guys
