Good Sign?: Sox-O’s Gamer

So I opened up a closet just now and saw the above item, a Big Papi jersey that I didn’t even know I owned. Sent to be my mom a couple of years ago (my memory refreshed by the sighting), the tag still attached. Maybe tonight we’ll get a fresh and crisp Papi, and he’ll lead the way to glory, the shirt a sign from the baseball Gods.

Either that or Buchholz gets shelled. Chat away here.

  • Both could happen; Ortiz could homer 5 times in the game but the Red Sox lose 6-5.
I miss the days where Buchholz was throwing no-no’s. Sigh, such great times those were.

  • You sure she didn’t send you a Pedroia jersey?

  • Red Sox takes the lead on a laser show triple and a Youk single. Manny who?

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 7:13 pm
  • > You sure she didn’t send you a Pedroia jersey?
Well, at least if Papi ever leaves the Sox, you could cut one Ortiz jersey up and sew it into three Pedroia jerseys and still have plenty of fabric left for a Doo Rag.

  • Best news of the week – radio announcers say that Lugo has suffered a setback in his rehab.

    rootbeerfloat August 20, 2008, 7:18 pm
  • Lowrie walks with the bases loaded, though the 4th pitch should have been strike 3. We’ll take it.
Jeff Bailey up with the bases loaded.

  • Coco hits it hard to the gap, but Castro makes a great play to grab it and throw to 3rd. Replays show Jason Bay grabbing his lower butt after jogging into 3rd. Uh oh?

  • I never intrude in your gamers but I had too…
SF: How the hell do you have a brand new jersey sitting in your closet that you forgot about????

  • > How the hell do you have a brand new jersey sitting in your closet
While on a bender, he thought he was burying it under new Yankee Stadium.

    attackgerbil August 20, 2008, 7:25 pm
  • he would too! :)

  • I never go in that closet – it is effectively my wife’s. Add in the two kids factor and my brain is effectively scrambled eggs.
That is how these things happen, krueg.

    SF August 20, 2008, 7:27 pm
  • SF –
I hope you realize that you no longer have an ability to mock your wife for the number of shoes or pairs of black pants that she owns.

    soxgirl August 20, 2008, 7:27 pm
  • Reason #476 for not having kids! I totally understand the wife part…i claim about 10% of my closet!

  • > i claim about 10% of my closet!
I think I spotted the flaw in your logic.

  • 1-2-3 inning? Good. Three groundouts? Good. 19 pitches? Bleh.

  • C’mon, guys, let’s pretend this is Texas. Break it open! Clay will need all the support he can get.

  • I moved in with my girlfriend in June and I have maybe 1/3 of the closet hanger. The floor is 100% hers. So many shoes.
I had to buy my own dresser to fit most of my clothes in.

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 7:43 pm
  • You clearly have too much baseball clothing if you forget about the Ortiz jersey…

    soxgirl August 20, 2008, 7:44 pm
  • They never let us keep our cool stuff either! I had to sell my neon beer signs and foosball table!!

It was buried under her shoes.

    SF August 20, 2008, 7:55 pm
  • Not too much now Bill, sort of a standoff of waiting for her to apologize. Very boring.
Though she hasn’t been in my room since I confronted her.

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 7:56 pm
  • Wow, the stuff about Buchholz being unlucky is totally true. Grounder goes maybe 20 feet; Bucky makes a grab for it but slides in the grass. Wouldn’t have had him anyways.

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 8:00 pm
  • jay payton reminds me of wanda sykes. i have an unnatural dislike for both.

    sf rod August 20, 2008, 8:01 pm
  • Here comes the meltdown. God, I wish we had enough pitchers to send him down to the minors right now.

    Micah-SF August 20, 2008, 8:02 pm
  • Yikes. Atheose – do you have a rain storm to go out into?

    rootbeerfloat August 20, 2008, 8:03 pm
  • God, he’s awful right now.

    Micah-SF August 20, 2008, 8:05 pm
  • 4-pitch walk after the bad luck. That theory Paul talked about very well might be true.
Base hit, two runs score. 4-3. Next is hit hard but well short of the wall. Orioles broadcasters started doing a homerun call.
And hey RBF, I’ve been here since the start of the game–which includes the 4 runs we’ve scored on offense. I’m only bad luck when I come in mid-game!

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 8:06 pm
  • Holy crap ballgirl is an idiot… she interferes with the ball and Lowrie goes to 2nd. She’s still oblivious, and walks over to someone in the crowd and hands them the ball!

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 8:09 pm
  • ARGH.

    Micah-SF August 20, 2008, 8:12 pm
  • Oh sh*t, Buchholz hits the batter one pitch after throwing at his head. Buchholz warned.

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 8:17 pm
  • WHAT? Buchholz being pulled? That was another crappy bad-luck play, not his fault.
Can’t believe Cash was standing there staring at his uniform while the runner stole 2nd and 3rd.

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 8:27 pm
  • He’s not a major league pitcher right now. Bad luck has certainly played into it, but he’s just NOT.

    Micah-SF August 20, 2008, 8:27 pm
  • See you next year, Clay.

    SF August 20, 2008, 8:28 pm
  • Guess who else isn’t a major league pitcher?
David Aardsma! 32 walks in 42 innings? Disaster awaits.

    SF August 20, 2008, 8:28 pm
  • Pathetic.
Good morning, good afternoon, good night. This bullpen stinks.

    SF August 20, 2008, 8:29 pm
  • What a complete disaster. What a joke. This HAS to be his last start, and Aardsma’s making a good case to be gone as well.

    Micah-SF August 20, 2008, 8:30 pm
  • Aardsma gives up a homer on his first strike then walks the next batter on 4 pitches. F*ck this noise.

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 8:30 pm
  • Interesting that if Clay Buchholz had just pitched like a league-average fifth starter this year the Sox might be in a comfortable spot with regards to the WC, and closer to the top of the division. Could Buchholz eventually be single-handedly responsible for the Sox missing the playoffs? He’s been THAT bad.

    SF August 20, 2008, 8:34 pm
  • This team has way too many flashes of utter suck to make me feel any confidence in the prospects of anything glorious happening this year. At this point, the playoffs look pretty impossible.

    SF August 20, 2008, 8:36 pm
  • Maybe Clay can go back to Texas for the 2009 season, go fetch us a catcher?

    SF August 20, 2008, 8:39 pm
  • I think Clay will definitely have to take a good bit of the blame if we miss the playoffs – he’s been pretty much an automatic loss every fifth day, to the point that almost nobody else in the big leagues has been. Unfortunately I don’t have time to look it up, but I’m willing to bet he’s in some pretty bad company there.

    Micah-SF August 20, 2008, 8:45 pm
  • Red Sox losses while Buchholz pitched:
IP / ER / Final Score
    5.0, 3, 2-10
    6.0, 1, 1-4
    3.2, 7, 9-15
    8.0, 2, 1-2
    4.0, 5, 9-10
    4.1, 7, 3-7
    5.0, 4, 3-7
    4.2, 4, 3-11
    6.1, 5, 2-6
    3.0, 5, 5-6
The ones in bold were certainly winnable had the starter gone 5.0 with around 3 runs. The game tonight looks to be more of the same.

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 8:48 pm
  • Baltimore 3-run blast = 10-4 Orioles = ease off the Red Sox intake for the evening.
I’m not that pessimistic about this team…we just need the starters to do well in the playoffs (Lester, Beckett, Matsuzaka, hopefully Wakefield) provided we get that far. The offense isn’t bad, and Okajima, Masterson, and Papelbon can do the job. Just need to make sure they grab some wild card (I’m not giving up on the division, but the chances are shrinking by the day). Gotta try anyone but Buchholz next time, he’s been given enough rope now.

    Devine August 20, 2008, 8:54 pm
  • Is Colon ready yet? He was doing great before going on the DL–his velocity was back up to 96.

    Atheose August 20, 2008, 8:59 pm
  • Bullpen or minors for Clay?
    Who replaces him? Colon?

    Jeff August 20, 2008, 9:23 pm
  • I go away to get a haircut and come back to this. See you all tomorrow.
