He Who Laughs Last: Yanks-Jays Gamer XI

I suppose Josh Towers isn’t on Alex Rodriguez’ Christmas Card list, nor Tony Pena’s for that matter. Perhaps revenge is best served cold, and Towers will feel the chill when A.J. Burnett returns to action and he is dropped from the rotation. Perhaps this side-story has played itself out and there won’t be anymore to hear of it, but somehow I doubt it; at least in the immediate sense, it’s ongoing as there is a suspension coming for Rocket, while ARod is on the bench nursing a sore calf courtesy of Towers’ role as Judge Judy and Executioner.

Regardless of the circus sideshow, the Yanks go for the sweep tonight and the pitching match-up that on paper looked like the prime battle of the series is on tap: Chien-Ming Wang against Doc Halladay. Wang’s going for four in a row and has won 10 of 11; Halladay beat the Rangers 6-4 on Friday with two walks and nine k’s; he’s going for six in a row at home. Lineups follow; comment away.

  • by the way, I get why A-Rod’s sitting, but in the future I’d like to see Jeter rest a bit. I get the sense that he’s tired recently. His numbers are down the last month, and his bat seems a bit slow. It wouldn’t hurt to give him a breather or two in the next two weeks. And with Betemit on board, I feel better about such an action.

  • Nick, I totally agree about the pitching match-up. I’m also looking forward to seeing Giambi back in the DH slot tonight.

  • I just checked in. Wow, Stairs leading off is weird indeed. Cano got back 2 of these runs, though against Halladay it’ll never be easy..
    Let’s go Wang.

  • wow. jeter forgot how many outs there were. neglected to turn a double play, thinking there was 2 down. costs the yanks two more runs. very tangible.

  • Have both Wang and Abreu on my fantasy team…not a super duper night in that regard.

  • Sterling and Waldman were appalled that Abreu was ejected.

If Abreu stubbed his toe, Sterling and Waldman would blame it on the astroturf.
